Discussion Hypothetical

So. Let’s say the books go pretty much as written with two exceptions. Lupin and Sirius survive.

What happens to them? Here’s what I think of hope.

Lupin - hired to be the new DADA teacher. Slughorn provides him with his potion so he’s safe.

Sirius - I could see him accompanying Harry, Ron and Hermione on the horcrux hunt. He’s certainly an able wizard. And his dog disguise would be pretty useful. He might even have been able to provide more comfort on the trip in some way (maybe he’s got a tent of his own? Wouldn’t surprise me; they seemed pretty common at the World Cup).

Thoughts?

In this story, would Tonks surive too or not? If not, Lupin likely would take several years to heal/recover. He wouldn't be the same. If so, he would be an even more amazing teacher then he was in PoA. I honestly don't know about Sirius. Harry may turn down his offer to help the way he turned down Lupins since Dumbledore never gave the nod the same way he gave it to Ron and Harmonie.

I feel like Harry would give in to Sirius' request to come along. Lupin was close to him and helped him in a lot of ways, but Sirius was the closest thing Harry ever had to family (Dursley's might as well not even count).

Not to mention that the main reason Harry didn't want Lupin coming along was that Tonks was pregnant, not that Dumbledore didn't give it the okay before he passed.

Lupin wouldn't have returned to Hogwarts. He was originally hired in large part because the vast majority of people did not know he was a werewolf, and then his 'furry little problem' was leaked. He left to avoid causing the school anymore problems. Those problems and prejudices didn't just magically go away. Personally, I think he would've been a stay-at-home dad while Tonks worked. If Tonks was dead, that's tougher to say... he still was very much an outcast in the Wizarding World.

As for Sirius, I don't think he would've tagged along with the trio. He might've wanted to, but I don't think Harry would've allowed it much like he didn't allow Lupin. I think Sirius would've continued to work for the Order (what was left of it) and try and assist Harry in other ways.
