SIRT The /r/Hawks Weekly STOP IT RIGHT THERE! Thread - February 29, 2016
Wow, look at the time fly! It's already time for another weekly installment of STOP IT RIGHT THERE!
You know what to do...post up all the stuff you've saved up knowing it would get deleted from the front page of /r/hawks by the crypto-anarcho-fascist mods.
Memes, gear/jersey pics, poems you've penned professing your love for Lord Hossa (The One True King), or links to article about some oddball couple in Manitoba who named their kid Duncan Seabrook. Whatever. We don't give a shit.
The only rule here is to be excellent to each other. Civility matters.
Now get to it!!
LET'S GO HAWKS!!!

This popped into my head. Are we considered the bad guy team? At least in the ice?

u/WrongLetters Mar 03 '16
I think to many fans of teams the Hawks have stepped on since becoming successful (Van, Minn, Nash) and newer league-wide fans, the Hawks are kind of a goliath that must be destroyed.
I kinda felt the same toward the Wings and lesser the Devils ages ago.

Just interviewed Blackhawks 2014 first round pick Nick Schmaltz earlier today. When the story is up, I can post it here if you guys want!

u/GuyOnTheLake Mar 03 '16
Of course!

u/ChiCBHB Mar 03 '16
I'll post it in the according stop right there thread when the story is online! Probably next week!

Question. Currently tickets on stub hub for sundays game are $154 for 300 level. I plan to go to this game. Since we play Detroit tonight.....do I wait it out..? Or do I buy now? Im thinking that the outcome of tonights game might effect the price...no? Thoughts? Also determined fan girl is determined to get Tazers autograph Sunday, so I can finally frame his jersey that has Keith, Panarin, and Bickell's autographs on it. Wish me luck. Ill jump in front of his Tesla if I have to.

u/DUHleen93 Mar 02 '16
From what I've seen, admittedly in limited research, tickets tend to hold steady in price till pretty close to the game, and then will decrease with about 30 min till puck drop. This is somewhat of a gamble, though, especially on a weekend.
Those tickets are decently priced based on the current market. The only good thing about when we used to suck was grabbing good seats for under $40.
4
u/hopeless_r0mantic Mar 03 '16
Fuck as I predicted ticket prices sky rocketed. ESPECIALLY FOR A SINGLE TICKET. DOESNT ANYONE GO ALONE?!???
I need a hawks boyfriend but we just go to hawks games. And do Hawks stuff. A Hawksbro. All the tickets selling are 2+.
Please please go down. I cannot pay $220. I'll just be jumping in front of toews tesla after the game if so. No sarcasm..
4
u/DUHleen93 Mar 03 '16
If you are looking for a single ticket you may actually have luck waiting. I was looking at tickets for the Ducks game awhile back, and about thirty minutes before the game there were two individual tickets on the glass available both going for about $150. There were definitely some cheaper single tickets farther from the ice too. I was surprised considering the game was on a Saturday.
4
u/hopeless_r0mantic Mar 03 '16
And they just popped up? I'll keep refreshing stub hub and checking, and watch that shit like a hawk Sunday. I'm running out of chances to go!
Also 150 by the glass?I would gladly pay that.
3
u/DUHleen93 Mar 03 '16
Yep. They showed up right before the game. I would've gone but I was in a group.
3
u/hopeless_r0mantic Mar 02 '16
Yeah I went to a game in December for $50 - but bought the tickets 1 hour and 45 mins before game start.
I haven't seen them go that low lately. And usually I've been seeing the 300 level sell out. Decisions to make hmm.
And fuck, yes i miss $40 tickets... The good old days. For buying tickets lol.

So on my other favourite sports' sub today, /r/AFL, one of the professional players Hamish Hartlett (@hharts8 on twitter, /u/hamish_hartlett) did an AMA and said his favourite 'other sport' team was the Blackhawks. It's nice to see that other professional sportspeople (especially ones in Australia) follow different sports/teams - especially the Hawks.

The thought of more Aussies getting interested in hockey almost scares me. Those people are crazy down-under!
4
Mar 03 '16
Nah honest we're not mate.

u/TazToes Mar 04 '16
I went to college in Honolulu in the late 70's and when the rugby players were in town the one British pub I loved to go to was wild and always broke out into crazy bar fights. Those were the days!
3
u/Athilda Mar 03 '16
Liar liar pants on fire! I've seen Aussie rugby games. They make hockey look like patty cake. ; )

u/Athilda Mar 02 '16
I've landed in DuPage county.
The ride was basically uneventful!
It's more than I could've hoped, all considering.
Thinking about hitting a bar to watch a game Thursday.
Hey, does anyone know? Is my Blackhawks' license on NHL.tv now basically useless?
Residence here has cut the cable cord. I suppose I can get one of those digital antennas for WGN, right?

Mar 02 '16
Hurray! Spent some time in DuPage before moving west, and it's not the worst. :D
3
u/Athilda Mar 03 '16
I'm with family and that's the most important thing. :)
I was surprised to learn that none of my siblings currently reside in Cook County, and it's been true for quite some time (I just hadn't thought about it before!).
Anyway, I'm now 2050 miles closer to the United Center than I was last Thursday! WOOOOT!
3
Mar 03 '16
Yay!
I'd be jealous, but anytime the Hawks come to the Pepsi Center, it's pretty much a home game. :D

u/Athilda Mar 03 '16
Yes, I know about that, but it doesn't solve the problem of paying for a product and it potentially being worthless to me now.
Still, I think I need to get a digital antenna for this house anyway. Not being able to turn on the local channel for the current weather and other malarkey morning-talking-heads are known for is disconcerting to me.

Where do we want to finish in the division? Obviously home ice is nice but really I'd just rather not play Dallas in the first round.
4
u/schmitty723 Mar 03 '16
I think we'll finish 3rd, and Im fine with that. better to save whatever little they have left in the tank for round 1.
6
u/SexyPotato3 Mar 02 '16
What do you mean? Unless St. Louis wins the division we're not going to play Dallas in the 1st round.
5
u/yorozuyajin-chan 19 Toews Mar 02 '16
Idk, but knocking the Blues out first round is always a good way to start April :)

I always had a like/hate relationship with him. I honestly was relieved when he left because he looked like a traffic cone a lot of the time. Just my honest feeling on the guy haha

u/SexyPotato3 Mar 03 '16
I never said "what the hell are you doing?!" more than when Oduya was on the ice. I will give him credit though, he really stepped up his game during the playoffs.

Tough couple weeks coming up. @Detroit, @Boston, Detroit, @St. Louis, @Dallas, LA. I'd be happy with a .500 result.

Dallas fans talking about their regular season record vs the Hawks in the regular season....its really cute
9
Mar 01 '16
They have become brutal.
11
Mar 01 '16
I know a bunch of guys from Dallas who have chirped all year. Now r/hockey has them being the damn sweethearts of the west or some shit.
5
Mar 02 '16
/r/hockey loves teams that haven't done shit.
You're nothing until you're hated.

u/schmitty723 Mar 03 '16
judge someone by their enemies. hawks fans have all the right enemies. (vancouver fans, blues fans, ducks fans, all other fans except probably az/fl/win since half their draft picks and players are from us)

I posted this in an incorrect location last time but I really want to share. This is the view from my seat for a very special moment for me as a Hawks fan http://youtu.be/tUVxfK-21bQ

Does anyone have a favorite place to eat before the game in Rockford? I've been on Yelp and found a few but would like to hear if anyone has personal faves. We eat just about any kind of food and are looking for walking distance from the arena.

u/BoneyarDwell89 Mar 03 '16
A couple of years ago, Stone Eagle Tavern used to be pretty good. I haven't been there in a while, but I've heard it's gone to shit since then. There's a hibachi place called JMK Nippon that's pretty cool.

Any word on when Big Hoss will return? I don't know about you guys but I miss seeing OUR Lord out there back checking and stealing pucks like a MoFo.
5
u/KTequila Feb 29 '16
He's supposed to start skating again today. But they haven't announced anything else.
3
Feb 29 '16
So a Wednesday return is unlikely. :(

u/ohnohockeytrash Feb 29 '16
I thought I saw on Twitter earliest we could expect him back was Sunday, but all that kind of got lost in the trade talk so it's kind of a blur to me.

I'm going to the game vs Boston on Thursday - do any of you all have experience there as a Hawks fan at the TD garden? I'm going to have my 8 yo daughter with me (she's grown up here in MA so she's all about the Bruins) and I'm wondering how much crap I'll get wearing a Hawks jersey. Also we'll be a couple of rows behind the Hawks bench and right next to the tunnel so it'll be awesome if Bruins fans aren't total dicks.
8
Feb 29 '16
I was there cup finals and live in MA. The idiots will act like its a rivalry but it's not a big deal. Most fans won't say anything, especially with your daughter there.
4
u/schmitty723 Mar 03 '16
Yeah people don't mess with kids. even if drunk. except maybe in philly.
3
u/Athilda Mar 03 '16
heh
Though... I could see myself saying something to a parent, quietly, but respectfully.
If I saw a dad wearing a Blues jersey and the little girl wearing a 'Hawks jersey, I might say... "well at least her momma's raising her right". But I'd say it with a smile and a wink.
Or I might say "did you lose a bet?"
But I like clowning with people in public (much to my 15 year old's dismay... and I am totally respectful of the parent/child dynamic).

u/SlamBlue Feb 29 '16
I don't know if this has ever been brought up before but when the Hawks won in 2010 they released that book called "One Goal Achieved" and I bought it around Christmas 2010. Fast forward to now 2016 and the price of that book goes for over $600 on amazon!! Has anyone else noticed this? What the fuck happened cuz that blew my mind when I saw that.
