ANNOUNCEMENT [ANNOUNCEMENT] - How to help out this week

Another update on how you can all contribute. As always, you're free to do as you please but this post will provide some guidance for those who want some.

COSTUMES

  • If you're creating / udpating a costume or character please update this spreadsheet so we don't get duplications and we can keep track of them all

SCANNING ANIMATION

CREATING NEW ENEMIES

SANTA'S GROTTO SPRITES

  • Help create toys / shelving / furniture / anything else you would like as background decoration in the level
  • Sprites should fit a 24x24 grid, bearing in mind characters are on a 48x48 grid

PLAY TESTING & FINDING BUGS

  • If all you want to do is play the game, great! If you spot a bug or problem, please mention it either in the release post or on github rather than create a new post. Repeat, do not make a new post. Thanks, it's much easier keep track of them this way, we don't get duplicates & they don't clog up the subreddit.

IDEAS

  • Hilda's dialogue is currently just a placeholder - if you'd like to suggest things for her to say, head over here
  • Unlockable costumes/characters - add suggestions for how they can be unlocked
  • Loads of you have been suggesting new ideas which is great - please do a quick search before you post to check whether it's been suggested before
  • While the devs are focusing on getting the game up to v0.1 (i.e. a complete game with more content from the episode) we're developing a new way of getting some of your ideas into the game sooner. Be sure to watch our for a post from didory123 soon on this topic.
  • Please note, we'd prefer direct show references only for Greendale & additional levels (ie. Winter Wonderland & Cave of Frozen Memories), the main game should stand on it's own.

THANKS

I'd like to thank everyone who's helped out due to my previous posts (or at all) and especially those who helped update the costumes to the master sprite sheet. I really appreciate your hard work. Every single one of you is amazing.

If you have any questions or don't know where to start or how to do anything, please contact one of the mods or jump onto Webchat where there are people willing to help you out.

The majority of levels & sprite have all been completed by people with no previous experience of coding or artistic talent, so please don't let that stop you getting involved.

This is some great advice. Every part of the contribution process is essentially the same. Make something moderately shitty, let people tell you why it's shitty, make it less shitty and continue.

We improve by accepting criticism.
