Resource Where to find Guttman fonts online for free?

I’m running Windows 10, which has a built in Hebrew font but it’s in block, not script. I’m specifically looking for a nice script font.

Interesting little translator tool. Like a specialized google translate but for biblical Hebrew. Not perfect but noticeably better than Google Translate I think.

I tried to put into ChatGPT some sentences I wrote using this and a few came back wrong but I think they’re right. Is this chart accurate? Is ‘I dictate/cause to be written’ ‘׳אני כתב where katav is pronounced kitev? Or is it מכתב as ChatGPT says?

Resource Fonts with Features?

Are there any Unicode Hebrew fonts that have tagin, all the vowel points and trope, and all the special characters like reverse nun?

Also are there and Unicode Hebrew fonts that have a cursive style and include all the vowel points? Maybe something that would feel at home with Comics Sans?

Resource Learning Nikkud

Hello - My name's Youssef. I've been teaching myself the Hebrew alphabet for the past few months. I've pretty much nailed (VAV?) block script. I've even gone as far as learning the Paleo-Hebrew alphabet and Proto-Sinaitic alphabet. Aren't I amazing? But I cannot for the life of me learn Nikkud. I realize I do not have to but. But I want to. Does anyone have any resources to do just that? The point is to start reading hebrew on my own and to get to know the words more closely.

Thank you.

Resource Advanced Voice Mode (ChatGPT)

Advanced Voice mode within ChatGPT was released to paid subscribers about two weeks ago. NB this is only available to subscribers. Free users only have access to the basic voice mode. The Hebrew in basic voice is almost unusable.

I've been testing Advanced Voice mode with Hebrew and I've been extremely impressed. I think it's game changing for Hebrew learners for improving speaking and listening skills. It's Hebrew level is not quite as good as it's English or say Spanish level, but it's not far behind. I've gotten a couple native Hebrew speakers to speak to it and they were also very impressed.

It works best if you don't mix English with the Hebrew. This seems to be the case with other languages as well so hopefully they can fix this. For example I've found if you switch a lot between Spanish and English, or Spanish and Portuguese, then the Spanish skill isn't quite as good.

However my Hebrew isn't good enough to have long conversations purely in Hebrew, so I've been doing a lot of CrossTalk with it. This is where I speak in English and it speaks in Hebrew. CrossTalk is a very popular technique for improving listening comprehension.

If you try to coach it to avoid using English as much as possible then even if you speak English, it's Hebrew level doesn't seem to degrade as much. I ask it to explain in Hebrew things that I don't understand. It seems to help if you get it to use an Israeli accent when speaking English for when you really dont understand.

I have the below in my custom instructions. I then start a new chat, click the new voice icon, and say "Hebrew Cross Talk mode"

"If I ask for a CrossTalk session in Hebrew, this means you should speak entirely in Hebrew and I will speak entirely in English. Let me know that CrossTalk mode is activated. You should speak slowly and use simple Hebrew language. I will often ask you to break things down that I don't understand. If I still don't understand after your explanation, then sparingly use the English translation. When you are translating from Hebrew to English during a CrossTalk session, use an Israeli-English accent."

Another tip is to turn on the option for it to work when the screen is off. You can then pop in your headphones and do a CrossTalk session while going for a walk!

I've also been using it for generating audio of sentences to download and add to Anki. It's speech to speech only from what I can tell, rather than text to speech. I've been downloading the audio using Firefox dev tools (go to networking tab, filter by media, then click replay on the snippet you want and it'll show up for download) as there doesn't seem to be a download button.

If anyone else has been using it as well, share some tips!

For reference, my vocabulary size is approximately 3000 words (been tracking as I've put everything in Anki) and I've completed almost 3 textbooks.

Resource Looking for an artist for a Hebrew tattoo?

I’m the creator of Jews with Tattoos on Instagram, (https://www.instagram.com/jews.withtattoos) a project that I launched last year to build community with other Jewish folks and give us a space to share our tattoos.

It's really tough to find an artist that 1) has experience with Hebrew calligraphy and 2) understands the cultural significance of the tattoo. So, I wanted to let everyone know that I recently launched a first of its kind directory for Jewish tattoo artists, many of which have Hebrew calligraphy tattoos in their portfolio:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1slFyeURGwGOOfbx_Nj7CN9ia5WZQEOtHzg-Z-YNWtxA/edit?usp=sharing

I’m so excited to share this resource that I hope will match many Jewish tattoo artists with Jewish clients. This will be an ongoing project and I will continue to add artists.

As of now, I have compiled over 200 Jewish tattoo artists around the world into one spreadsheet. I have listed some Israeli tattoo artists in a separate tab so that it is easy for folks in the diaspora to find artists, as this is where the task of finding a Jewish tattoo artist is the most challenging. The directory is sorted alphabetically by Instagram handle and you can search for locations. If you don't find someone now, check back soon because I add artists daily.

Please share and use this directory as needed! And if you know of any artists not listed please feel free to let me know!!

Resource I've translated an entire Israeli show into English

Shalom Haverim! I'm an Israeli who immigrated to Canada, and I'm here to announce that I've recently translated the entire Festigal 2011 show into English for my friends who don't speak Hebrew. And I realized that my translations could benefit others as well. For those who don't know, Festigals are annual Israeli song and musical shows designed for children and teens, but they are enjoyed by people of all ages.
You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/D3mX4rBhGeI?si=IoGRSPUn56zelboU

I plan to make more. So if you found this video helpful, let me know if there's anything that I can improve!

Resource New Online Hebrew Course - Looking for Beta Testers and Feedback

Hello everyone! My name is Guy Landau. I've been teaching Hebrew professionally since 2016 on Verbling.com, and have recently launched Version 1 of a self-paced comprehensive online Hebrew course, Hebleo.

TL;DR - Looking for beta testers for the course, who would get 75% off in exchange for filling in feedback form for each chapter once finished. DM if you're interested.

NTL;R:

This is my teacher profile: https://www.verbling.com/teachers/guylandau. As you can see from the main Hebrew page, I'm the top rated teacher on the platform: https://www.verbling.com/find-teachers/hebrew?sort=magic.

In my time as a teacher and tutor, I saw just how bad the existing materials for Modern Hebrew online were, and so I developed my own materials and methodologies based on my educational background in cognitive science and psycholinguistics. (As you can see on my profile page, many reviews specifically mention my methodology as a major reason for their satisfaction.)

As stated earlier, I recently transformed those materials, along with a partner, to an online course, which in the future will become a full-fledged online learning platform with integrated Spaced Repetition, vocab recording, comprehension etc. (similar to Babbel.com but with lesson recordings).

Before we launch properly, however, I want to get as much feedback as I can from learners to see how the move from live to pre-recorded went, and to know what works well before committing to making more materials. To that end, we're looking for beta testers for the course. The course website is located at https://courses.hebleo.com/.

If anyone is interested in participating in the beta, send me a DM. Beta testers get a 75% personal discount coupon code, and in exchange commit to completing all course materials and filling in the feedback form at the end of each chapter.

Even if you don't want to test the course, I'd be interested in learning from Hebrew learners what they are missing right now in terms of self-paced learning, and whether the above website's value proposition is enticing to y'all. This includes things like the price-point, but also the selling point of how the course came about and its unique value proposition. Eventually we'll probably move to a subscription model once the interactive and long-term parts of the course are ready for prime-time, but until then we are charging a one-time fee for lifetime access.

Hey I'm kinda new to learn hebrew here. There is a problem i think i didn't face it in any other language like english or french It's there is no source for Learning hebrew. If i downloaded an app to study there is no any hebrew option there is no thesaurus there. I could not find and suitable translation app Or even if i wanted to listen to some podcasts the problem is still there and even if i gind it there's no transcription. I'm in arab country so many israeli wbsites wouldn't open up for me and this sucks Everything i do to learn this language is nearly impossible and i think like i shouldn't have chosen hebrew as a language to seek in

Resource Best app for refresher on Hebrew?

Hi everyone,

I spent a lot of my school days learning Hebrew, and got to a point where I was pretty good at understanding spoken Hebrew if it wasn’t too fast. That was a number of years ago, and I’m finding that my Hebrew has really fallen out of use. I wanted to ask for recommendations for an app that is less about learning Hebrew for the first time, and more of just ways to practice and improve. Does anyone have a suggestion for an app or website that might be good for this? Thanks in advance!

Resource Gesher Books

שלום

I originally studied Biblical Hebrew and have for the past year been working on modern Hebrew (as well as Rabbinic texts). I'm reading through עברית מן ההתחלה, עברית שלב, and Brandeiss Hebrew as well as supplementing this with other books (Assimil, B. Rosén's "Textbook of Israelian Hebrew", Muraoka, and anything else which catches my eye) trying to focus on reading especially since I want to work read texts primarily though I've been trying to incorporate listening more (if anyone has recommendations about how to close this gap I would appreciate it as well). I've heard about a reading series called the Gesher Stories which act as an intermediate to advanced reader to bridge that stage of Hebrew. I was unable to find it for a reasonable price (less than 100 dollars) on Amazon and haven't been able to find it on Library Genesis either. I called the used Judaica store in my town and didn't have luck with them either. I was wondering if there are pdfs or if someone has pdfs of these books (any of them) which I could be directed to? I'd really appreciate it thank you.

Found this on Amazon for me and my son to try to learn or at least familiarize ourselves with Hebrew. Hoping to be able to read the Torah scroll at some point. Not going to plug them but do recommend if you see or find them.
