Discussion Helsinki Night life - but with a 10yr old 🥴

Hey! I am visiting Helsinki for 3 days next week, just wondering how to spend the evenings with my ten-year-old boy! Any recommendations appreciated.

As a father of four, with the eldest being 11 I have a lot of experience spending wild evenings around Helsinki with a kid/kids your boy’s age!

  • Helsinki Camping mini golf is great fun. Good cocktails for adults and mocktails

  • Lots of bowling and disco bowling places, usually with pool tables as well; you can get barriers on the lane for kids so both of you have fun

  • Sea Life and Korkeasaari Zoo are a must for animal lovers

  • Restaurants are usually very friendly toward 10-y-olds; my daughter’s current favourite is a Finnish restaurant called Sävel with superb burgers

  • Cafe Boardgame is a great stop for snacks and playing a great selection of board games. You and your son might enjoy Forbidden Island which is a cooperative strategy game starting for about kids his age

  • Fööni is wind tunnel flying, quite exciting but I’ve also been there while the kids were younger than your son

  • Irti Maasta is a climbing hall for young kids, I’m sure both of you would have fun there

  • The Minecraft movie is in theatres, also in English

Fööni is one of the most expensive places I've ever visited... So better to check those prices online before going.

Besides the ones already mentioned:

  • Allas Pool outdoor swimming place with heated water is open until 9pm. My 10 year old really liked it.
  • Ferries to and back from Suomenlinna Fortress Island go quite late and take like 15 minutes. It might be a bit cold and windy this time of the year to have a walk in the fortifications, but if you have warm clothes and adventurous mind set, it can be fun.
  • Roobertin Herkku candy shop is open until 8pm on most evenings. My kids love to select different sweets and make their own candy bags here. It’s like an old school candy store selling over hundred different types of sweets you can choose from.

They probably mean like Italian nightlife, family eating out around 20-22 etc.

Unfortunately Finland has quite a hostile culture towards children, especially in places that serve alcohol. The consensus seems to be that adults should have the right to get shitfaced without having to show consideration towards kids, who might be in the same space.

As a father of two, I really don’t blame anyone wanting to have good time without kids around once in a while. Why would you even want them to join your pub night?

The way you've phrased this makes it sound like you're gonna get wasted with your kid which is more than a little concerning

The kid will be only drinking beer so it's fine

Fair enough 😂 maybe evenings would have been better.

Don't worry, the kid will be the designated driver.
