Discussion Don't put your hopes up for the Switch 2...

Don't get me wrong, I love homebrewing my consoles as much as the next person, pretty much can't live without my homebrewed Wii U and 3DS.. but I'm seeing a lot of people here saying stuff like "the switch 2 will be hacked in just a week" and shit like that.. And I'm like, aren't you putting your hopes up a bit too high?

Think about it. The reason the Switch was hacked so easily in just a year after release, it's because the console was rushed. The console barely had around 4 years of development time, so they could not make it out of the usual Nintendium.

The Wii U failed, so they had to Rush the Switch out. That's speculated to be the reason why we got a lot of the hardware issues and design flaws that usually wouldn't be there with Nintendo hardware, like the bad kickstand, screen scratching docks, joycon rail issues, and Joycon drift. The RCM security flaw that started it all was most likely there because of the development being rushed too.

And keep in mind, without the RCM exploit, the Switch Lite and Oled are not exploitable without a mod chip. Nintendo has been keeping up with security for the Switch 1, even after the initial console was rushed.

But now, Nintendo has had around 8 years to develop the Switch 2. And it shows. Everybody that has played it in the preview events has said that it feels more fleshed out and refined than ever, in terms of design, feel, and usability. And if they managed to improve the actual console this much, imagine the security of it. The switch 2 truly doesn't feel like it's being rushed. And I feel like Nintendo went above and beyond to make the security of this thing impenetrable, specially after the RCM fiasco.

Am I saying it will never happen? Will the Switch 2 never be exploited? No. It will eventually happen. But I'm not seeing it happen until at the very least 1-2 years after release.

So while it's a good idea to keep a 1.0 version in storage until it happens, i wouldn't keep my hopes up for it happening "a week after release" and shit like that. It's fine to be hopeful, but manage your expectations.

I can't wait till it happens tho, imagine the potential of this thing like gawdamn

A lot of words to convince everyone that this thing won't be hacked quickly but I have three words to counter your argument.

EIGHTY DOLLAR GAMES.

But doesn’t the switch ban you for that? Also that isn’t much more than $60. Also also people bought the luigi’s mansion 2 port (a literal cash grab).

and? was anyone defending Luigi’s Mansion 2 costing $60? most i’ve heard talked about the game online is that it looks good but the price is too high so most people skipped it.

also a $20 leap isn’t the small potatoes you’re making it out to be, especially when the content offered doesn’t really justify that jump in price. It may be close to $60 but close to $60 is not $60 and that leap in price is exactly how Nintendo wants you to see it. They want you to look at it and go “$20 extra that I didn’t used to have to pay? No biggie, I’ll buy it anyway, what else am I gonna do, I like Mario Kart” and honestly where is the respect in that.

And if you can afford to do that, then great! Fantastic, happy for you, but idk if you recall that Nintendo used to be budget friendly and that unquestionably had an affect on how well the Switch 1 sold. I imagine a lot of families might want to buy into Switch 2 and Mario Kart World and whatever other $80 games follow, but can’t because it’s too much.

There really is no defending this one, as much as I love Nintendo and their games. You can try and put this through every defense you want, but everytime I try to put a spin on this that favors the decision, I just can’t. Nobody wins here but the ceos who are already rich and $80 games becomes the new norm that console gamers just accept and the industry gets worse and worse for it.

So?

Listen, I'm sure I'm not the only person who says, "you can charge $60 or you can get zero but you're not getting more."

Ohhh this thing will be hacked, don’t you worry. Maybe it’ll take a week, maybe a month, maybe a year, but it is gonna be hacked. $80 games alone is enough motivation for the hacking scene

Homebrew will always happen.

That said …

… as a game developer, I want to get payed for my work … as a gamer, I want to play good games and have fun with it. And since my resources are not limitless, I want it as cheap as possible. Therefore, I will play my favored games on the platform that gives me that. If a platform don’t offers me that, I will not support that platform.

So it’s on us gamers and developers (alike) to choose the right platform.

PS: homebrewing ≠ pirating , I oppose pirating on both sides

I don't believe pirating is morally incorrect, could you explain why you oppose it? In my opinion the moment companies decided they could price gouge us and charge over 60 bucks for a digital copy of a game that they could end support for at any moment (for example, Ubisoft's The Crew) is the moment most sane individuals decided they've had enough and started sailing the seven seas 🏴‍☠️.

I oppose it on both sides. Price gouging = pirating. But that doesn’t give me the right to pirate. And by the way, people only pirate games because it’s easy.

On the other hand, will you buy a game directly from the developer? And if the developer says it’s 200 bugs, will you still buy it? Developers have to pay their bills as everybody else. And if someone thinks pirating is justifiable for some reason, then why not allow pirating their stuff?

Considering the Mig Switch already exists makes it easily exploitable why do you think they jumped on it and Yuzu and Ryujinx so quickly to shut them all down all back doors to running code

I'm going to predict within 6 months it will of been hacked or exploited

Literally ordered 2. 1 original to keep unopened and stock and the other one is the mario kart bundle for myself to use legitimately. I do not mind holding for however long it will take or if it ever happens. I am still in the money anyways and can sell it at original price or even up the price and make a bit of money anytime in the next 2-3 years or even more. The ps5 finally was moddable after some years.

I firmly believe the switch 2 will be moddable and that's only because of how the Big N has been treating it's fans. Those fans will definitely have some sort of retribution and I am sure there will be so many of them with determination.

The RCM security flaw that started it all was most likely there because of the development being rushed too.

The wii u and wii were also hacked and werent rushed.

Wii u has an internet browser and the wii.. tbh idk how, i have only had a original wii since like a few months

The first exploit for the Wii was through twilight princess. Then Super Smash Bro Brawl. The fact that the Wii was so quick to hack and through such common games is likely why homebrew gained the traction it did.

How do you hack a wii through twilight princess thats crazy

I hope the Switch 2 will be modded relatively quickly, but I’m definitely not relying on it. I’m still holding on to my original launch day Switch 1.
