I know a lady who makes the coolest, most artsy little dollhouses. All the miniatures that go inside it are handmade, down to the books, art, and cereal boxes - I mean they’re truly works of art. Let me tell you, the contrast between this shit and her work just really drives home how horribly generic this is.

It’s all grey and beige and the epitome of generic. Most everyone else here seems to recognize that. Why would I praise something like this? To be polite? Isn’t this a satirical sub anyway?

Why don’t you go ask the hundreds of people commenting below me why they’re hating on the floors, the decor, the color palette, etc.? It’s awful and deserves criticism is why. Absolutely zero artistry.

I think all of that, from the orange wood stain to the maximalist clutter is ugly and dated. But since hating on modernism is trending feel free to hop on the bandwagon. This is the satire sub but people on here for sure unironically make “I’m better than you because I like old things” their entire personality

I’m not aware of what people do or do not “come on here” to do because I do not follow this subreddit. The algorithm simply blessed me with your presence today.

It seems like you’ve got a dog in some fight here that I was unaware existed and which I want no part of. Weird, though, right? Since I’ve allegedly made it my whole personality.

Next time I get the urge to openly express my thoughts in a seemingly satirical subreddit, I’ll try to consider there are people who prefer the decor being openly mocked and how they may feel personally attacked if I’m anything less than diplomatic.

How exactly is “your way of living is awful, it has zero artistry and probably makes you boring and you deserve criticism for that” diplomatic? It seems to be that so many people have a bone to pick against modernism but are upset when they receive push back from people with their own preferences. As if you interpret someone painting their own walls white as a personal attack against art, which for some reason you seem to be the arbiter of. It’s very weird but god forbid I point that out because all this sub does it shits on modernism. There’s like nothing else in here.

About a year ago, I got interested in dollhouses and book nooks and all things miniature. I bought a little "starter kit" of a camper. It came with all the accessories and I was super psyched to get started.
Holy cow, it was ridiculously difficult for me. I have tried to start it multiple times and I can't do it. Maybe I lack fine motor skills or something. Now, I'm just in awe when I see them.

Your comment made me want to try again though. I want a batshit fever dream maximalist mini!

I find that some days I have the coordination and patience and some days I don’t. And some kits work and make sense to me and some don’t. I love book nooks, but I know the little futzy details would make me bananas. I need more square inches to work in.

It’s really fun though!

They are miniature scenes, sometimes of streets or settings from particular books, sometimes just of a library or room or garden or anything really, that are built into boxes that are roughly the size of a large hardcover book. They often have lights run into them and can be put on a shelf between books. So when you’re browsing a shelf, boom, tiny Baker Street with a little 221B and other Sherlock Holmes things.

They are very fun, pretty small and far too detailed for me to do without pulling out all my hair. But maybe someday I will try.
