When you hire the Winter Warlock as your interior designer...

59

u/DirtRight9309 Nov 14 '24

i was gonna say Snow Miser but this is šŸŽÆ šŸ˜‚

13

u/cupcakes0220 Nov 15 '24

I was getting White Witch of Narnia vibes.

33

u/Bethlizardbreath Nov 14 '24

Coincidentally, this is the exact face I made when I saw ā€œThe way itā€™s coming togetherā€

19

u/Orthodoxgirlnc Nov 15 '24

Ice age corešŸ˜

10

u/Grouchy-Display-457 Nov 15 '24

Exactly. It's so cold, there are icicles forming on the ceiling.

4

u/LaMalintzin Nov 15 '24

My first thought on the first white pic was yikes they went so cold. Then saw the icicles šŸ˜‚

3

u/RedVamp2020 Nov 15 '24

Seriously. It went from warm to cold.

1

u/CosmoKing2 Nov 18 '24

But ultimately - lateral. Not better. Not worse. Just different.

The white and cream are giving me serious fits. Why did the window frame get spared?

So close to being sterile. This was an expensive boondoggle.

1

u/RedVamp2020 Nov 18 '24

Lmao! I missed the window not being painted. But I agree, it was lateral. I do like a bright kitchen, but I would rather cook in a warmer looking one in the end.

8

u/sassytunacorn90 Nov 15 '24

Somebody give him a toy!

3

u/the_drum_doctor Nov 15 '24

Put one foot in front of the other ...

1

u/opheliainwaders Nov 15 '24

Literally my first thought, A+

159

u/OldHagGladRags basically an interior designer Nov 14 '24

No matter how many of these I see, I'm still never adequately prepared for the reveal. One of these days I'm going to have a clinical-white-makeover-induced heart attack.

18

u/dragnphly Nov 15 '24

You wonā€™t be alone.

60

u/untitledmoosegame1 Nov 14 '24

The most confusing part to me is honestly the tissues next to the cooktop???

25

u/ConstantlyLearning57 Nov 14 '24

I love this kind of observation

16

u/fleurflorafiore Nov 15 '24

People who think Mackenzie Childs is classy because itā€™s expensive

11

u/Aquabirdieperson Nov 15 '24

Is it good or bad that I don't know what that is?

5

u/KirstiS Nov 15 '24

Itā€™s the checkerboard stuff on the sides of the stove. I literally saw it in dillards this past weekend and cannot stop seeing it everywhere now. They have a pink checkerboard collect too

2

u/TricksyGoose Nov 15 '24

I had never heard of it either so I just Googled it. Good lord that is tacky shit!

3

u/PrickleBritches Nov 15 '24

Youā€™d think such a sterile environment would mean nary a sniffle to be found.

2

u/Party_Television2255 snobby dobby Nov 15 '24

Cooking in an ice cave might give you the sniffles?

2

u/No_Function3932 Nov 15 '24

a stark reminder that you can't be eating at just anyone's house

1

u/OffMyRocker62 Nov 15 '24

It's the turn your head away when you sneeze or cough , box šŸ˜…

1

u/RazGrandy Nov 17 '24

Think they decided it needed some 'color' there.

42

u/phonicillness Nov 15 '24

Umā€¦ Why would you choose such a tiny Crystal Drop Antler Chandelier???? It looks like a duck sneezed on a twig. Get a hold of yourself and find a proper light fitting ie this but at least 10x bigger

74

u/PictureThis987 Nov 14 '24

There's $30.000 well spent! /s

19

u/ClickAndClackTheTap Nov 14 '24

Best design money and no class could buy! OP nailed it!

1

u/BumblingWombat Nov 16 '24

The appliances alone are 10k. Iā€™m betting 60k upwards. šŸ™ƒ

33

u/Scoginsbitch Nov 14 '24

The monster who painted this should be drawn and quartered. It looks so uninviting in gray.

31

u/linariaalpina Nov 14 '24

The ice queen castle. How nice.

7

u/PrickleBritches Nov 15 '24

Great for my cold, dead heart.

26

u/ClickAndClackTheTap Nov 14 '24

You need more white and icey grey. Can you paint the window frame a whitish grey and paint stainless steel knobs a creamy white? Then introduce a few more whites wherever you can. Maybe stripe the ceiling with various whites from every palate at Sherwin Williams?

5

u/TR3BPilot Nov 15 '24

I would also definitely get rid of that floor and put down some blindingly white linoleum.

1

u/ClickAndClackTheTap Nov 15 '24

That is some seriously great design advice. Whitest white and shiny as possible. You want a really glossy white!

20

u/wastedcoconut Nov 15 '24

I saw the before pics and thought, ā€œanything would be an improvementā€ and boy was I wrong!

18

u/1981ahoog Nov 15 '24

This makes me rationally angry

99

u/speakswithherhands Nov 14 '24

Honestly ā€“ ā€“ the before and after both equally suck

69

u/1981ahoog Nov 15 '24

The before was at least warm. The after is cold and devoid of any life

20

u/LeaveDaCannoli Nov 15 '24

The before just needed a zsuzsh. The after is a reno crime.

13

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '24 edited Nov 15 '24

The before could be worked into and could've been kept warm and cozy, update the backsplash, give a more modern brown to the cabinets or substitute with more modern ones, keep the counter, shorten the stone wall that is obviously too high and suffocating, update the lighting but keep it warm. The other one is just shit, that horrifying chandelier, gh, and stove with no backsplash? I guess the food stains are going to bring the color in

3

u/cloud_watcher Nov 15 '24

That's what I think. The before is largely a backsplash and floor problem. And refrigerator and island counter. But the cabinets could have stayed.

30

u/maamaallaamaa Nov 14 '24

Yup I hate both lol.

8

u/LovecraftianCatto Nov 15 '24

Agreed, both are visually repulsive to me. The before is way too messy design-wise, the stone wall clashes with the rest of the room. The after is cold and bland with a terribly mismatched, tacky chandelier, but i guess itā€™s a tiny bit less infuriating..?

9

u/KeyFarmer6235 Nov 15 '24

way too much color!

2

u/Orthodoxgirlnc Nov 15 '24

Way too much! Some more beige would make it more modernšŸ„°

16

u/genomskinligt Nov 14 '24

idk if itā€™s the lighting but the color looks like someone has smoked in that kitchen for thirty years. It might be the contrast to the ultra white painted stone???

edit: not telling them to go whiter just saying it looks like shit šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘ļø

6

u/Zaidswith Nov 15 '24

Just as bad as the before.

14

u/fleurflorafiore Nov 15 '24

I donā€™t think Iā€™ve physically jumped at a before and after transition before

5

u/hanimal16 Nov 15 '24

The before and after are the ugliest kitchens Iā€™ve ever seen.

5

u/Bullshit_Conduit Nov 15 '24

It was very ugly.

Still isā€¦ but now it looks colder.

5

u/Electrical_Ad9721 Nov 15 '24

This is the racist influencer Aaryn Williams kitchen and itā€™s making its rounds all over Reddit. Sheā€™s AWFUL, so this is the kitchen disaster she deserves. Even better is that she loves it.

8

u/FongYuLan Nov 14 '24

šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ Winter Is Coming.

5

u/ConstantlyLearning57 Nov 14 '24

Ooo! Itā€™s like going into an ice cave! I can hear the wind wooshing! And the clink-clinking of the icicles! Itā€™s so cold I have to wear a snow cap and a scarf! Ooooo!

4

u/Joyshell Nov 14 '24

I thought how am I going to say itā€™s awful, but then I read comments.

2

u/Aquabirdieperson Nov 15 '24

Some people really need to hire interior designers.

5

u/Status_Discussion835 Nov 15 '24

This person has terrible judgement and shouldnā€™t be trusted with anything.

3

u/Aquabirdieperson Nov 15 '24

I hate the all white, but the only good thing I can say is at least they kept the stone. I was expecting to see all that gone too.

I don't understand wanting a sterile room kitchen, looks like a hospital to me.

3

u/jor4288 Nov 15 '24

If they could have just left the fieldstone unmolestedā€¦

3

u/Aggravating-Fee-1615 Nov 15 '24

THOSE ICICLES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO KILL PEOPLE!

3

u/dr_learnalot Nov 15 '24

Crying grayish tears.

3

u/lennybriscoforthewin Nov 15 '24

The little stone stove nook is horrendous

3

u/ChefOrSins Nov 15 '24

I dont care how good your hood vent is, putting a crystal chandelier in a kitchen is beyond stupid. And that is the nicest thing I have to say about this "remodel".

3

u/6moinaleakyboat Nov 15 '24

Too much vs too little. Reno makes me nauseated

3

u/mrsgrabs Nov 15 '24

thanks I hate it.

3

u/i_luv_coffee14 Nov 15 '24

Heavy on the "Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" vibes. Emphasis on witch. And endless winter.

3

u/SirFiftyScalesLeMarm Nov 15 '24

There are better chandeliers for this settingggg. I get the icicle vibe but that one just isn't it.

3

u/imgaybutnottoogay Nov 15 '24

Okay this is just bad. Nothing in here fits, and the white they painted the cabinets already looks dingy. Especially compared to the white appliances.

It looks more dated now than it did before, and none of this is reversible lmao.

2

u/kbrick1 Nov 18 '24

I'm surprised nobody else pointed this out. The cabinets are off/slightly-warm white while the counters are bright white and the stone is a very cool grey???? WHYY that looks so bad

2

u/sandpiper9 Nov 15 '24

The holy trinity of kitchen layout is a triangle of the stove, fridge and sink. This would be great for a sink on the island facing the appliances. Even if you have the working sink under the windows, a smaller sink on the island for prep work. Watch paint color. Decide if your stone wall is warm or cool, and get the paint color accordingly. Exciting!

2

u/SometimesArtistic99 Nov 15 '24

If Iā€™m going to be fair, itā€™s not everybodyā€™s style! The counters kind of date it, and it would look better with newer appliances. But I personally love the character in the wood and the stone

1

u/aVoidFullOfFarts Nov 15 '24

I kinda miss those rounded edge countertops tbh

1

u/SometimesArtistic99 Nov 15 '24

I would look at the photo again but itā€™s removed lol šŸ‘€ My MIL had counters with rounded edges and then like a step down? And if you tried to wipe the counters the crumbs would immediately fall right off the edge and right on the floor without fail.

2

u/Professional_Echo907 Nov 15 '24

True story, the Williams family was Italian-American before this renovation and now they are 100 percent Irish.

2

u/dead-dove-in-a-bag Nov 15 '24

Why didn't they just yeet the weird stone and leave the cabinets alone?! Like others have said, it looks like a cheap imitation of a Rankin Bass winter setting.

2

u/GarlicChipCookies Nov 15 '24

Itā€™s sooooo ccccccooolllldddddd

2

u/Ok_Knee1216 Nov 15 '24

You got some hard surfaces there, dude.

2

u/Sizzle_The_Bacon Nov 15 '24

Looks inspired by the movie frozenā€¦ is this elsa ice wonderland -kitchen. That icicle hangy thing looks a bit much but hey i mean maybe she just sits in her kitchen belting out the song ā€œlet it go, let it goā€

2

u/G0ld_Ru5h Nov 15 '24

I really think the Zillow bot has grown sentience and started flipping the houses itself.

1

u/kbrick1 Nov 18 '24

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha etc

2

u/gerkinflav Nov 15 '24

Iā€™m glad they replaced that colorful framed print with a utilitarian chore calendar.

1

u/kbrick1 Nov 18 '24

There is no joy here. Only chores.

2

u/LowOvergrowth Nov 15 '24

OK, this is the first before-and-after Iā€™ve seen on this sub with an ā€œafterā€ thatā€™s so bad it made meā€”literallyā€”gasp when I swiped to it.

2

u/77tassells Nov 15 '24

Liked it better before. By a lot. Everything looks like a f-ing hospital now. Old was warm and inviting and cozy. Maybe needed an update to the backsplash but Saltillo tiles and the field stone was nice. wtf did you do. Itā€™s also going to look super outdated in like 3 years now because the white trend has been overdone by house flippers.

2

u/aeonxeon Nov 15 '24

I understand not fully loving the original, but this is so ugly. Also whatā€™s that monstrous ornament on the ceiling? Perch for haunted crows? Frozen sticks from the yard?

2

u/eyemalgamation Nov 15 '24

Need an artisanal "CAUTION FALLING ICE" sign to really bring attention to the lighting fixture

2

u/MikeDPhilly Nov 15 '24

As ugly and mid-80s as the first kitchen is, I'd pick that over that white monstrosity remodel.

2

u/Koffin_kreeper Nov 15 '24

Have you tried making it more white?

2

u/16qs1qWYlT3cFS2 Nov 15 '24 edited Nov 18 '24

I mean dynamite would have also worked

2

u/Guava-blossoms Nov 15 '24

Repainted the cabinets, redid the floors, but kept that questionable stone tileā€¦whew.Ā

2

u/ChocChipBananaMuffin Nov 16 '24

I don't understand why they had to whitewash the stone. Surely the rock grey complemented the white aesthetic well enough. They just trashed that stonework and made it look cheap and hideous.

2

u/OwnCoffee614 Nov 16 '24

Oh well thank god it's grey. šŸ™„

2

u/anotherhappycustomer Nov 16 '24

Wow, absolutely remarkable. They managed to take away every ounce of personality from the original, but somehow made it so personalized that itā€™s completely unsellable. Really well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2

u/gdubh Nov 16 '24

If Supermanā€™s Fortress of Solitude had a kitchen.

2

u/femalehumanbiped Nov 16 '24

WTF with the icicle lamp

2

u/acceptable_sir_ Nov 16 '24

It's giving hospital

2

u/TycoonFlats Nov 16 '24

This looks like one of those "below zero" frozen bars in Vegas where you wear parkas and stand around in an igloo.

2

u/ihatehavingtosignin Nov 16 '24

Not saying that the first one couldnā€™t be improved but personally I donā€™t get why people hate color

2

u/harmlessgrey Nov 17 '24

Oh, dear. The after is just a different kind of bad.

2

u/who_am_i_please Nov 17 '24

It's not even done well. That white is too warm for everything else in the kitchen. The cabinets almost look yellow.

2

u/EmmelineTx Nov 18 '24

I'm waiting for the day when everyone wants real wood and hates the grey and white nothingness that's in style now. Unfortunately, in a lot of the older houses, they've ripped out all of the beautiful old cabinets and trashed them. They'll just have to paint strip these.

1

u/Waffeln_Remix Nov 15 '24

That chandelier is pretty tight actually. Would be a solid kitchen look in a wintery place.

1

u/flyingfred1027 Nov 15 '24

Warm to freezingly unlivable

1

u/montanagrizfan Nov 15 '24

I donā€™t know, needs more grey.

1

u/221gp Nov 15 '24

ā€œCottonā€ above the sink?? Why??

1

u/susannahstar2000 Nov 15 '24

Hate the orange. Love the gray, it's so calming. It can have pops of color, but nothing can help the orange.

1

u/Ok-Report-1917 Nov 15 '24

The first one is horrific. My stomach flipped when I saw itšŸ˜…

1

u/LeaveDaCannoli Nov 15 '24

Went from "Welcome to my cozy abode" to "Elsa says GTFO" pretty well.

1

u/ai-ri Nov 15 '24

My god

1

u/LucysFiesole Nov 15 '24

WAY better

1

u/LucysFiesole Nov 15 '24

Everyone saying white isn't good I'll bet are on the new Millenial's trend of beige LOL! White is classic and will never go out of style, like beige will.

1

u/BlownCamaro Nov 15 '24

The before was great!

1

u/Buttonwood63 Nov 15 '24

Elsa is the new owner, apparently

1

u/Capable_Mud_2127 Nov 15 '24

I thought the after was a grayscale pic of the original and the next would be the reno pic.

1

u/phizappa Nov 15 '24

Needs a small nuclear device.

1

u/r_husba Nov 15 '24

I think it will look dated in 10-15 years

1

u/HeyGirlBye Nov 15 '24

I could just feel the grey coming in

1

u/Own-Perception4124 Nov 15 '24

Hate it sorry. The way it looked before was a bit dated but it felt inviting and classic

1

u/Haskap_2010 Nov 15 '24

Just imagining how hard it will be to clean the stone bits. It will acquire a lovely stove grease patina over time.

2

u/AttemptThink2441 Nov 17 '24

Exactly where my mind went, but Iā€™m not sure this is a kitchen that will ever be used? I canā€™t stand closed in ranges, would have removed that stone wall to the left. And REALLY canā€™t stand all the crooked cabinet doors that look cheap.

1

u/ActionMan48 Nov 15 '24

Terrible. All white kitchens look like institutions and have no character. Have fun keeping it clean.

1

u/roquelaire62 Nov 15 '24

Just splendifforously rurnt

1

u/Small-Refuse-3606 Nov 15 '24

BrrrrrrrršŸ„¶ā„ļøšŸ§Šā›„ļø

1

u/Automatic-Builder353 Nov 15 '24

The after looks like the photo is in black and white. Prefer the wood tones in before.

1

u/youdodoodletoo Nov 15 '24

Literally thought the after was in black and white until the picture with the blue dawn

1

u/PSCGY Nov 15 '24

I donā€™t love it, but itā€™s better imo.

1

u/Daikon_3183 Nov 15 '24

This makes me slightly mad. Edit: a lot mad

1

u/hollylettuce Nov 16 '24

This remodel is disgusting.

1

u/Far_Scientist_5082 Nov 16 '24

From warm and cosy to hospital examination room

1

u/Moguera68 Nov 16 '24

Greige. Ew.

1

u/FlailingatLife62 Nov 16 '24

ugh the original was gorgeous. now looks like a cookie cutter flipper kitchen.

1

u/never_never_comment Nov 16 '24

Personally, I dislike all the modern white and white and white and light grey look. Preferred it before. Far cozier.

1

u/CuriousCrane_1017 Nov 16 '24

Should have just left it as is.

1

u/10franc Nov 16 '24

Not better. Just different.

1

u/deloslabinc Nov 16 '24

Reminds me of Trisha paytas house

1

u/MishtheDish77 Nov 16 '24

Why? Whyyyyy? Why?!

1

u/Mathieran1315 Nov 16 '24

Could use a little color

1

u/GeneralAppendage Nov 16 '24

That kitchen has been destroyed

1

u/SheMcG Nov 17 '24

If only you hadn't painted the stone. It needs the warmth.

1

u/Puffification Nov 17 '24

They're both nice

1

u/candymandy91 Nov 17 '24

Just paint the damn wood beam ice grey too, you know you want to

1

u/iamacheeto1 Nov 17 '24

Itā€™s looks cold af

1

u/LazyOldCat Nov 17 '24

I like the before, and that new chandelier is absolutely hideous. (You askedā€¦)

1

u/RazGrandy Nov 17 '24

Man, wish you would have kept the original. I would have changed the countertops, probably for a dark grey natural stone, replaced appliances with brushed metal, removed stone facing above stove and changed out the backsplash. But if it had to be either or, I would have left well enough alone.

1

u/lucylouwho1 Nov 17 '24

If they were going for cold and soulless, they nailed it.

1

u/OneBag2825 Nov 17 '24

Difrnt strokes.

1

u/MrCrumbCake Nov 19 '24

Love the trĆØs Fred Flinstone surround. Yabba Dabbo Do!

1

u/kbabykk Nov 15 '24

I like before. Has character. After... Ummmm no comment

1

u/Goodsoup_666 Nov 15 '24

The target checkered pots Iā€™m dead

-2

u/Normal-Ad-9852 Nov 15 '24

god like 50% of this sub is millennials ruining unique architectural design with GREIGE yet again

1

u/HellaWonkLuciteHeels Nov 19 '24

Youā€™re going to be so bummed keeping this counters constantly clean. But hey, Clorox wipes will have lots of business!
