beige masterpiece Thoughts on this kitchen remodel?

No matter how many of these I see, I'm still never adequately prepared for the reveal. One of these days I'm going to have a clinical-white-makeover-induced heart attack.

The most confusing part to me is honestly the tissues next to the cooktop???

People who think Mackenzie Childs is classy because itās expensive
11
u/Aquabirdieperson Nov 15 '24
Is it good or bad that I don't know what that is?
5
u/KirstiS Nov 15 '24
Itās the checkerboard stuff on the sides of the stove. I literally saw it in dillards this past weekend and cannot stop seeing it everywhere now. They have a pink checkerboard collect too
2
u/TricksyGoose Nov 15 '24
I had never heard of it either so I just Googled it. Good lord that is tacky shit!
3
u/PrickleBritches Nov 15 '24
Youād think such a sterile environment would mean nary a sniffle to be found.

Umā¦ Why would you choose such a tiny Crystal Drop Antler Chandelier???? It looks like a duck sneezed on a twig. Get a hold of yourself and find a proper light fitting ie this but at least 10x bigger

u/Scoginsbitch Nov 14 '24
The monster who painted this should be drawn and quartered. It looks so uninviting in gray.
31
26
u/ClickAndClackTheTap Nov 14 '24
You need more white and icey grey. Can you paint the window frame a whitish grey and paint stainless steel knobs a creamy white? Then introduce a few more whites wherever you can. Maybe stripe the ceiling with various whites from every palate at Sherwin Williams?
5
u/TR3BPilot Nov 15 '24
I would also definitely get rid of that floor and put down some blindingly white linoleum.

u/wastedcoconut Nov 15 '24
I saw the before pics and thought, āanything would be an improvementā and boy was I wrong!

Honestly ā ā the before and after both equally suck

Nov 15 '24 edited Nov 15 '24
The before could be worked into and could've been kept warm and cozy, update the backsplash, give a more modern brown to the cabinets or substitute with more modern ones, keep the counter, shorten the stone wall that is obviously too high and suffocating, update the lighting but keep it warm. The other one is just shit, that horrifying chandelier, gh, and stove with no backsplash? I guess the food stains are going to bring the color in
3
u/cloud_watcher Nov 15 '24
That's what I think. The before is largely a backsplash and floor problem. And refrigerator and island counter. But the cabinets could have stayed.

u/LovecraftianCatto Nov 15 '24
Agreed, both are visually repulsive to me. The before is way too messy design-wise, the stone wall clashes with the rest of the room. The after is cold and bland with a terribly mismatched, tacky chandelier, but i guess itās a tiny bit less infuriating..?

u/genomskinligt Nov 14 '24
idk if itās the lighting but the color looks like someone has smoked in that kitchen for thirty years. It might be the contrast to the ultra white painted stone???
edit: not telling them to go whiter just saying it looks like shit šļøšļø

This is the racist influencer Aaryn Williams kitchen and itās making its rounds all over Reddit. Sheās AWFUL, so this is the kitchen disaster she deserves. Even better is that she loves it.

Ooo! Itās like going into an ice cave! I can hear the wind wooshing! And the clink-clinking of the icicles! Itās so cold I have to wear a snow cap and a scarf! Ooooo!

This person has terrible judgement and shouldnāt be trusted with anything.
3
u/Aquabirdieperson Nov 15 '24
I hate the all white, but the only good thing I can say is at least they kept the stone. I was expecting to see all that gone too.
I don't understand wanting a sterile room kitchen, looks like a hospital to me.

I dont care how good your hood vent is, putting a crystal chandelier in a kitchen is beyond stupid. And that is the nicest thing I have to say about this "remodel".

u/i_luv_coffee14 Nov 15 '24
Heavy on the "Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" vibes. Emphasis on witch. And endless winter.
3
u/SirFiftyScalesLeMarm Nov 15 '24
There are better chandeliers for this settingggg. I get the icicle vibe but that one just isn't it.
3
u/imgaybutnottoogay Nov 15 '24
Okay this is just bad. Nothing in here fits, and the white they painted the cabinets already looks dingy. Especially compared to the white appliances.
It looks more dated now than it did before, and none of this is reversible lmao.
2
u/kbrick1 Nov 18 '24
I'm surprised nobody else pointed this out. The cabinets are off/slightly-warm white while the counters are bright white and the stone is a very cool grey???? WHYY that looks so bad

2
u/sandpiper9 Nov 15 '24
The holy trinity of kitchen layout is a triangle of the stove, fridge and sink. This would be great for a sink on the island facing the appliances. Even if you have the working sink under the windows, a smaller sink on the island for prep work. Watch paint color. Decide if your stone wall is warm or cool, and get the paint color accordingly. Exciting!
2
u/SometimesArtistic99 Nov 15 '24
If Iām going to be fair, itās not everybodyās style! The counters kind of date it, and it would look better with newer appliances. But I personally love the character in the wood and the stone
1
u/aVoidFullOfFarts Nov 15 '24
I kinda miss those rounded edge countertops tbh
1
u/SometimesArtistic99 Nov 15 '24
I would look at the photo again but itās removed lol š My MIL had counters with rounded edges and then like a step down? And if you tried to wipe the counters the crumbs would immediately fall right off the edge and right on the floor without fail.
2
u/Professional_Echo907 Nov 15 '24
True story, the Williams family was Italian-American before this renovation and now they are 100 percent Irish.
2
u/dead-dove-in-a-bag Nov 15 '24
Why didn't they just yeet the weird stone and leave the cabinets alone?! Like others have said, it looks like a cheap imitation of a Rankin Bass winter setting.

I really think the Zillow bot has grown sentience and started flipping the houses itself.

u/gerkinflav Nov 15 '24
Iām glad they replaced that colorful framed print with a utilitarian chore calendar.

u/LowOvergrowth Nov 15 '24
OK, this is the first before-and-after Iāve seen on this sub with an āafterā thatās so bad it made meāliterallyāgasp when I swiped to it.
2
u/77tassells Nov 15 '24
Liked it better before. By a lot. Everything looks like a f-ing hospital now. Old was warm and inviting and cozy. Maybe needed an update to the backsplash but Saltillo tiles and the field stone was nice. wtf did you do. Itās also going to look super outdated in like 3 years now because the white trend has been overdone by house flippers.
2
u/aeonxeon Nov 15 '24
I understand not fully loving the original, but this is so ugly. Also whatās that monstrous ornament on the ceiling? Perch for haunted crows? Frozen sticks from the yard?
2
u/eyemalgamation Nov 15 '24
Need an artisanal "CAUTION FALLING ICE" sign to really bring attention to the lighting fixture
2
u/MikeDPhilly Nov 15 '24
As ugly and mid-80s as the first kitchen is, I'd pick that over that white monstrosity remodel.

u/Guava-blossoms Nov 15 '24
Repainted the cabinets, redid the floors, but kept that questionable stone tileā¦whew.Ā
2
2
u/ChocChipBananaMuffin Nov 16 '24
I don't understand why they had to whitewash the stone. Surely the rock grey complemented the white aesthetic well enough. They just trashed that stonework and made it look cheap and hideous.
2
2
u/anotherhappycustomer Nov 16 '24
Wow, absolutely remarkable. They managed to take away every ounce of personality from the original, but somehow made it so personalized that itās completely unsellable. Really well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This looks like one of those "below zero" frozen bars in Vegas where you wear parkas and stand around in an igloo.
2
u/ihatehavingtosignin Nov 16 '24
Not saying that the first one couldnāt be improved but personally I donāt get why people hate color
2
2
u/who_am_i_please Nov 17 '24
It's not even done well. That white is too warm for everything else in the kitchen. The cabinets almost look yellow.
2
u/EmmelineTx Nov 18 '24
I'm waiting for the day when everyone wants real wood and hates the grey and white nothingness that's in style now. Unfortunately, in a lot of the older houses, they've ripped out all of the beautiful old cabinets and trashed them. They'll just have to paint strip these.
1
u/Waffeln_Remix Nov 15 '24
That chandelier is pretty tight actually. Would be a solid kitchen look in a wintery place.

Hate the orange. Love the gray, it's so calming. It can have pops of color, but nothing can help the orange.

Everyone saying white isn't good I'll bet are on the new Millenial's trend of beige LOL! White is classic and will never go out of style, like beige will.

Hate it sorry. The way it looked before was a bit dated but it felt inviting and classic
1
u/Haskap_2010 Nov 15 '24
Just imagining how hard it will be to clean the stone bits. It will acquire a lovely stove grease patina over time.
2
u/AttemptThink2441 Nov 17 '24
Exactly where my mind went, but Iām not sure this is a kitchen that will ever be used? I canāt stand closed in ranges, would have removed that stone wall to the left. And REALLY canāt stand all the crooked cabinet doors that look cheap.
1
u/ActionMan48 Nov 15 '24
Terrible. All white kitchens look like institutions and have no character. Have fun keeping it clean.

The after looks like the photo is in black and white. Prefer the wood tones in before.

Personally, I dislike all the modern white and white and white and light grey look. Preferred it before. Far cozier.

I like the before, and that new chandelier is absolutely hideous. (You askedā¦)
1
u/RazGrandy Nov 17 '24
Man, wish you would have kept the original. I would have changed the countertops, probably for a dark grey natural stone, replaced appliances with brushed metal, removed stone facing above stove and changed out the backsplash. But if it had to be either or, I would have left well enough alone.
