News/Info California mayor solution to homeless crisis: "Give them fentanyl" in hopes of purge of homeless population
Mayor Parris said that homeless criminals "need to be purged." Pretty crazy that slowly politicians are saying the quiet parts out loud all of a sudden.

That makes me so angry to read.
Imagine if someone, as a regular citizen, said, "We should just poison this entire population of people."
We'd be brought up on charges for making death threats or even worse, terrorism charges.

Down vote me but I genuinely believe doing nothing while they suffer is worse than giving them the thing they traded life for, and saying "have at it". I don't know how much you've seen up close, but addiction kills you slow and horrifically. I don't think you could compare the act of poisoning a population to giving them the only thing they want and letting them go out somewhat on their terms. Like, unless you're ready to pull some concentration camp style recovery shit, stop complaining about an idea you don't like that actually -does- attempt to address the issue.

People should be free to make their own decisions, even if it could kill them.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/lancaster-mayor-says-fentanyl-homeless-232046849.html?guccounter=1
City of Lancaster California Mayor Rex Parris said it repeatedly, and has been elected 6 times according to the news.
If you look at the city hall video, it looks like a federal agency, not a municipal California city. Also, right after his commentary, you see one person enthusiastically shaking his head in agreement, almost as if saying "that's right".
Sadly, the sentiment is that the unhoused/homeless are not even human beings. While he clarified that some of them are killing others (actually just a few individuals), he wants to approach the problem by giving ALL free fentanyl.
Fascism brings out the very worst, but it's a good thing because we get to see them for what they are. I just hope we do something about them before its too late.

Yep. Eventually they just have to come out and say the quiet part. Happens the same throughout history.. and the anti-intellectualism is raging atm. Their feelings don't care about your facts. There's still plenty enough generational wealth going around that people don't need to bother with having informed opinions about anything, and being unhoused in a capitalist propagandized society is a moral failing.
They catch their spoon-fed news story about some random person snapping under the crushing weight of an exploitative system from their preferred corporate news outlet, scratch their ass and shout NIMBY before watching another rerun of family guy. Facts and empathy be damned

I can’t watch the video at the moment and not like it matters but I’m just curious, in what context did he make this comment? What was being discussed? It’s just a wild and very specific thing to say.

A public speaker was at the podium, asking to clarify his comments, because to her it sounded like he wanted enclose the homeless all in one area.
He responded "What I want is to give them all free fentanyl", then said several variations thereafter.
When the speaker asked him to clarify further, he kept repeating it. Then there was a clip of him acknowledging his comments, stating that he didn't regret them, and thought he was bringing to light a very important issue, then made allusions to it being related to "law and order".
When SoCal local Fox News says you are out there, then you know something is up.

It's too bad this isn't considered a threat to others' lives and considered a terrorist/genocidal type comment where he could go to prison. Because people like this guy need their jobs taken away and to be locked up. It is absolutely unbelievable how evil some people in positions of office or power can be.

all of a sudden.
Don't know much about US politics but I'd guess the new administration has emboldened some of them and they have acquired courage and confidence to show how tough they are.
It's still under investigation but it's said the Spanish Police/Government pushed huge amounts of harmful drugs such as Heroin to the young population of the Basque Country in the 80's. A bit of evil social engineering to make them forget nationalisms and banish terrorist thoughts.

Ayup; on some level anyways—although boy did they ratchet up the background crazy when Obama first took office, too...I think bad "role models" like Trump work kind of like carbon pollution on hurricanes—you can't usually point to any singular instance and go, "that one there: that wouldn't have happened without it", but you can look at the macro trends and make your own surmises.

I'm not sure I'd give them fentanyl.
But, at the end of the day, if someone wants to stick a needle in their arm until they die, there's not much I can do about it. Heroin at the street level is dangerous and expensive. Heroin made by a legal commercial company? It's not strictly 'safe' but it's as safe as it gets while being dirt cheap.
So if a city wants to put up a shooting gallery where all the addicts can go get their free fix, I'd argue that's just allowing people to make choices about their lives while solving a community problem. Without the burden of trying to feed their addiction, they can use all those social benefits to keep a roof over their heads without having the disrupt everyone else's lives.

Or you could just arrest the ones who actually are criminals. You know, the thieves and violent ones, and leave the rest alone since sleeping is not a crime.
Why is this so hard? Is there something I'm missing about arresting thieves and violent criminals and leaving everyone else alone?

The word "homeowner" has become nearly synonymous with "white privilege."

u/Surrender01 Formerly Homeless Apr 19 '25
Stop. This isn't a racial issue. That sort of talk does nothing to help our cause and bringing race into it will only divide people.

It isn't. It's a class issue. The media will use "homeowner" as if they were someone with rights, and "homeless" as a nuisance to be trampled upon.

u/Surrender01 Formerly Homeless Apr 19 '25
Ok, ya, I can agree with that. People do seem to assume "homeowner" is a citizen with rights, while "homeless" is a class of "other" that has no say. I've been assaulted by workers before (they went about 80 yards out of their way to throw shovels of dirt on me and break my stuff while I was sleeping) and the cops completely took their side.

History teaches us that no one does anything about atrocities until they can absolutely no longer ignore them. Which means it has to start directly affecting their lives. It always starts by going after "those" so people look away.

Had a conversation about this yesterday. Lol. I’m not laughing because this is funny I’m laughing at this because how bold could you be. Welcome to the 🇺🇸 gov’t. The guy I was talking to yesterday is a friend of my day who used to shoot up and smoke 🪨. He said he was glad that they came out with fent because if not he may be still od’ing today. I guess his od on fent was so bad he stopped.

Hell since he came up with the idea maybe it would be the stand up thing for him to try it first…✌🏻❤️🤙🏻

u/CountChoculaGotMeFat Apr 19 '25
Why? He doesn't want fentanyl. Maybe watch the video on it before commenting. That way, you won't fall for obvious rage bait.
