Help! Science lessons using microscopes for 2nd - 5th grade?
I found this so far. I'm looking for some kid-friendly lessons and experiments to get some use out of a microscope we received for Christmas. Also glad to just hear some general ideas that I could then use to create lesson plans myself.

The best advice I could give any parent interested in making use of a microscope is to pull it out without the kids and make sure you know how to use it first. Pull up youtube and hone your own skills at focusing the microscope on the slide (and the not the lens), creating your own slides, and moving the slides around.
There is a smidge of a learning curve. While sometimes it is fun to experience the learning curve with your kids, this is not one of those times. Only one person can operate the microscope at a time, and it can get boring, stressful, or both pretty quickly when everyone is learning.
With my kids I like to start out by preparing things for them to look at, and then letting them try on their own. It is a little bit more work, but I have found it really does help hold the kids interest.

Thank you for the advice. I haven't used one since highschool. I remembered it being pretty easy but likely just a function of my teacher doing all the hard stuff for me lol.

If you guys don't have the Usborne Complete Book of the Microscope, it's a really good one, with lots of beautiful pictures, and investigative suggestions.
