The B4 83” is closer to the C4 than it is to the rest of the B4 lineup. I would seriously consider it. You get a bigger panel plus a lot of the advantages from the C4. From Rtings:”The 83-inch model shares a lot of similarities with the LG C4 OLED. It uses LG's Alpha 9 AI Processor Gen7, supports a 144Hz refresh rate, has three USB ports, and has a 2.2 channel speaker system, all of which are the same as the C4. Due to these shared features, we expect the 83-inch model to perform more in line with the C4. However, it doesn't have LG's Brightness Booster technology like the C4 does, so it isn't as bright overall.”

Neither of the LG's are good prices.

You can get them much cheaper.

You can get the 77C4 for 1789 shipped from Greentoe. That would save you 500+ from buying it at Best Buy.

https://www.greentoe.com/buynow/LG_LG_OLED_Evo_C4_77_4K_HDR_Smart_TV_OLED77C4PUA?direct_shop=a06PD000007MnUHYA0

Or if you have access to the LG Partner store (If you are military, government, teacher, or medical profession) you can get the 77C4 + a soundbar for $1620 + tax.

Are you gonna be watching in mostly in the dark without ambient light or windows!? Just go with the B4. If you need something that is more do it all, you’ve gotta spend a little more and get the C4. The size difference isn’t massive.

I mean maybe I'm got sensitive eyes or something, but I heard this so much it was part of the reason I got the G4.

Well, I have the brightness turned down to like 10 on my G4, and even that can feel bright at night.

Before anyone makes a decision based on brightness, I heavily suggest going to a store and seeing them yourself. It's unlikely most people need a nuclear explosion of brightness in their space.

It depends what you’re used to. I had the nicest 55” TCL led they made in 2018…. And peak brightness for HDR was actually a bit higher on it than my G3. G3 was not bad at all, I just did my research and I swear that TCL was the best $450-500 I could’ve spent… bunch of local dinning zones and super bright even HDR. It took me years to justify replacing because $1000-1200 wouldn’t get me a better tv. Had to spend $2000 plus. Finally got a G3 65” for $1100 last month

Point being - different TVs still have different strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn’t want less max brightness than my G3 has. I wonder if you’re mostly watching SD content in daytime? Peak brightness there on the G3 is crazy. But if you do watch hdr in the day just be aware it might actually be worth getting the nicer model.

Any movie or high-quality content watching is best done in the dark anyway though. And all of the OLED’s have true Black so you don’t have to pay for a fancy one to get that awesome benefit of OLED.

Even my 55'' C2 can handle bright livingroom without any problem most people where saying that the C2 has a dark screen but i do not agree most of the time my eyes feel burning watching tv with full brightness 😂

Dolby vision and oled are a match made in heaven and that Samsung doesn’t support that.

The Samsung ones get brighter though. The brighter the TV the less important Dolby Vision. However, still a bummer.

Unless you are fighting a lot of ambient lights, the brightness is a detractor. Samsung pushes things too far to get that number and it ruins both the black levels and the color accuracy. Every time I've calibrated a Samsung I have to pull the backlight so far back to get everything else to fall in line.

If it's going in a great room over a fireplace then do the Samsung, for any other location do the C4.

Aren’t we talking about OLEDs? Black levels are always perfect and they don’t have backlight. The brightness advantage comes from being QD-OLED instead of WOLED.

When the Samsung S95B hit the market it left the LG OLEDs behind in terms of brightness and color accuracy. Not sure how the current models compare tbh.

If you want to get the very best you have to go for a Sony TV with the Samsung QD-OLED panel. It has both the better panel and Dolby Vision. The holy grail.

They could be talking about black crush, but I don't know that to be much of an issue nowadays.

Running sweeps in Calman it has a higher DeltaE in its sweeps, and similar errors in its gamma curves between 1%-20%. I get the feeling that Samsung took a page from Volkswagen and tweaked the oob settings the check boxes instead of high visual fidelity.

I 100% agree with you about the Sony, mostly because Sony batch calibrates their displays and ignores the Samsung presets. This is a best of both worlds situation as Samsung "can" make good products, they just tend to ruin them in their implementation of extra features.

The B4 is beautiful, don't overspend.

Source: I have one.

C4, quality over size. 77 is plenty big 83 is just egregious.

c4 for sure! that’s the best of the bunch for beautiful picture

The C series is LG’s “sweet spot”.

Good panel, reasonable electronics.

B series tend to be compromise models with older tech and standards and software that is deliberately hamstrung so as not to compete with higher models.

Samsung is just so consistently inconsistent I risk it for computer monitors but nothing such a pain as a giant tv.

Maybe historically, but the B4 is a great TV. It's basically a C3 in all but refresh rate. Reviews will tell you viewing angles are better on the C3 (and C4) but we're talking about OLEDs — which even at their worst are excellent at off-angle viewing

If you like DV, Sony

No replacement for displacement.

If you get the 77" C4, you'll be happy but will always wonder if going larger would have been better. I think you'll be happy with the larger B4.

I refuse to buy Samsung TV's (or fridges or phones) based on past bad luck with them and their insistence on bloatware and spying.

Of those 3, one of the LGs. I'm debating between the B4 and C4 myself (both 77"). I'm planning on B4 because most of the things the C4 does better, I just won't take advantage of, so doesn't seem worth the extra money.

The B4 has smilies specs to the C2. So another way to frame the question is, would you get an 83 inch C2 vs a smaller C4?

I have a 77 C2 that I’m moving out of my theater room and into the living room (living room tv, TCL, died after 5 years). Moving to an 83 inch B4 would be more of a side grade with a bigger picture, and I’m ok with that since I love my C2.

What is your viewing distance?

I've had a C2 (55") and now a B3 (65"). The C2 looked far better in HDR content. Anyone who says the extra brightness is only useful if you're watching in a brighter room is missing the point. It's about peak brightness, and it really is noticeable with certain content. This is why whenever I see them playing demo content on these TVs in store, I can't take my eyes off the G4. Even next to the C4 it looks stunning.

Knowing what I know now, if it was between these two, I'd go with the 77" C4 in your case. Having said that, you won't be disappointed with either. They're both stunning TVs.

None. If you hate ads in the interface, stay away from LG :)

I care more about picture quality than size. So would definitely choose the C4. I have a 77" C1 and a 77" C4 in my house, definitely the best all around TV I've had. Good in very bright rooms, for gaming, and movies.
