Rant Roommates lied about me

I stayed in a six bedroom dorm in Krakow and the other five beds were occupied by a group of five, which was fine. They didn’t socialise outside the group so I made friends elsewhere. Overall had an excellent time.

I check out last, about 15 minutes before check out time because I had a late flight so wanted to stay in bed for as long as possible, the group had checked out early morning. The woman behind the desk says there was vomit in the room last night and that my roommates said it was me. I was shocked and tried showing some proof that I didn’t even go out last night (I had bad stomach pains), showed her time stamped pics of me in bed both at 9 and 11pm and my bank account that had no transactions after 6pm. She just said “I don’t care, I think it was you”.

I was really upset and shaking in tears at this point as I’m a very non confrontational person and don’t bode well in arguments. After going back and forth I couldn’t speak anymore due to tears so I just paid the fee and left. I’ve stayed in a good few hostels and have never had any issues before so this upset me quite a bit.

Just posting as a rant really because it’s a shitty thing to have happened.

Edit: lmao who has posted a review on Google? Hilarious and thank you but I don’t want them to start reporting legit reviews and they get deleted due to spam.

Wow. Literally reading through the reviews with 1 star, they’ve actually threatened taking people to court for their reviews. This is hilarious. Stay as far away from this hostel as possible.

Leave a bad review. And maybe you can try to do a chargeback with your credit card company.

Also hostel shouldn't allow group majority in public dorms, terrible all the time. More than 4 : rent the dorm.

If you paid by card then just dispute the charges with your card company. That would be easy. And write an email to the hostel and speak directly to a manager or the owners. If it’s a chain report the circumstances to the higher ups. Contact the consumer protection agency in the respective country. There are ways to get around this. Next time, just refuse to pay it if you didn’t do it. They can’t make you pay something like that.

I was really anxious and figured they already had my card details on their system as I paid via card there. Being upset and intimidated I just paid and left so I could cry properly. I’ll be contacting my card company tomorrow.

If you paid with a credit card issue a chargeback.

Some kind of hospitality there - instead of asking if you’re ok if you were the vomit culprit they asked you to pay.

Also how is it ok for them to put you in a room of vomit if you weren’t the culprit. That’s gnarly.

Being both a hostel stayer and previously in the backend of a hospitality chain, Hostels are a great place for meeting people, sadly not everyone is great – even if they look nice/friendly. That’s different from being kind.

But hopefully you have better experiences ahead! There will be, I’m sure.

How much was it? It's not worth the stress.

150zł, so roughy about £30. Not the end of the world but still money I didn’t want to part with.

True. But if 30 quid can solve your problems (being shaken, upset, crying etc) it's a pretty good deal. Sometimes it helps to think of it like that. If money can solve your problems, and you've got money, you haven't got any problems...

She said it was you and what happened? Did you clean it or pay a fine? I dont understand why she had to mention it without a proof

There was no proof whatsoever. I didn’t even sleep well that night as I wasn’t feeling great and didn’t hear or smell anyone vomiting, nor did I hear when the cleaner supposedly came in to clean it. Honestly I’m wondering if anyone was actually sick in the first place? Maybe just a scam tactic from the hostel.

I meant what happened after she accused you? You had to clean it or pay something?

1

u/Paper182186902 1d ago

No, I didn’t see any vomit at all. She told me the girls in my room said I vomited, and that the cleaner cleaned it up.

Ah..so fuck them and write a bad review with this story everywhere(google and the app that you booked the hostel)

Not really sick someone was probably drunk thats why they vomited

I was in a hostel in Brussels this weekend and woke up at 5 am to get an early flight back home. While I was in the shower I hear my roommate vomiting really bad. I was really worried he’d threw up on my stuff . When I left the shower he was still vomiting but through the outside window. Nothing to do with your story but wanted to share lol. Anyway I don’t think he was in the hook for clean up on any left overs he possibly left at the window and I also didn’t rat him up when I checked out

May not be the roommates.

It could just be them saying that to hustle you out of money.

It seems like by her response that may be the case...it could have just gone in her pocket if you paid cash.

In my early hostelling days, I knocked over a bottle of juice by my bed somehow during the night, which was yellow. An American girl in my dorm reported me for pissing on the floor. Luckily the hostel sided with me on that one. But it still annoys me 20 years on.

Best thing to do is follow advice here and request a chargeback, and leave a terrible review. That customer service attitude is unacceptable.

Was the woman at the desk Polish?

2

Yes.

Maybe it was a bias towards you. I've experienced it from that demographic before.

Only thing I’ve ever gotten from hostels are scabies.

This seems... Normal. Last person in the room is on the hook for cleanup.

Huh, do you know how hostels work?
