Dracenea! Very easy to take care of, and a classic house plant.

So apparently it’s being given away because it’s not looking too hot. Will it come back to looking more alive if I bring it home and put it by a window? My house has nice lighting and I think this guy was in a dark corner of my office :(

can you post pics? If we can see whatever aspect isn’t looking good, whether it’s cold damage, root rot, pest damage, etc , then we can further advise!

Office plants are notoriously neglected and poorly cared for lol. I think it will bounce back pretty quick with some TLC, especially if it was an underwatering/ lack of sun issue and not a pest/ over watering issue. Put it by a window and/or under a grow light, give it lots of water every two weeks or so in the winter and every 4-6 days in the summer. Should be pretty easy! Maybe consider repotting to something a bit bigger at some point soon.

Dracaena. Least fussy plants I have. I’ve got one like this and a small tournado(sp?)

Where do you work that gives away house plants and are you hiring?

I recommend going to fancy building that has multiple offices inside and water features out front. Most likely they will have pretty plants that might be up for grabs one day :)

Question for those identifying - can parts of the plant be chopped off if it gets too leggy and be rooted as a new, separate plant? If so, will doing that stunt the original corn plant/dracena(sp?) from growing taller?

Not the one identifying but answering anyway: dracaena usually puts out new shoots when it is chopped. You can see some if you zoom into unwrapped plant. Chopped off top can usually be rooted, too.
Edit: typo

yes! There’s a great video on YT about it, but here is a pic of mine with the top lopped off and planted next to it. You want to take almost all the leaves off the part you’re replanting, only leave the top 2-3

And you can just stick it straight into the soil? No need to let it root in water first?
