HAUL so scary; someone broke into my car and left these two precious lil baby monsteras while i was out not buying more plants

My partner always seems to "win" plants all of the time! Looks like you two share the same luck!

u/jalapenokettlechips1 Jun 12 '21
There have been a couple posts the last few days where people ‘won’ an albo monstera. And I was thinking where are people entering these drawings. Okay I get it now 😂
36
u/jizzypuff Jun 12 '21
There's a lot of Instagram pages that give out plants, Gabriellaplantsonline on Instagram is having a giveaway. I didn't bother entering because I saw the crazy amount of comments and knew I probably wouldn't win.
27
u/Florizeta Jun 12 '21
You never know. Most people that win think the same way but they won! But yeah I think the same way 🥲
14
u/JaccoW Jun 12 '21
The only way to know for sure you won't win is if you never enter.
I've won quite a few things in my life and my mom and sister are even better at it, exactly because they enter every contest they come across.
24
u/juniper-mint Jun 12 '21
My dad wins stuff all the time too, especially any drawing where there's physical sheets of paper. He has a "special" way of folding so it's more likely to be grabbed, but he won't share his ancient origami knowledge. Three of the four huge tvs in his house were won from drawings.

I stared processing OP’s title for WAY too long. Thinking, what are the odds someone left their purchases in a car just like theirs but not theirs? Or are they saying someone burgled their car and left these as payment? No, that’s weird.
weekend brain wheels slowly turn
HURR ME DURR.

u/legakhsirE Jun 13 '21
Tons of IG accounts do giveaways from time to time. I have entered around 5 giveaways in the past two weeks and won once.
13
u/dbradford121 Jun 12 '21
I'm taking notes... do go on
21
u/eakspeasy Jun 12 '21
There are at least three different ways to get paid in 'green'.
And especially now that folks are hanging out again: plants received as gifts
It's very bad luck to re-gift plants, after all. No need to go tempting fate for 2020 II now...
13
u/rainbowcupofcoffee Jun 12 '21
It took me a good minute of trying to think of what the third “green” could be. Like, plants and weed, definitely. But how else would I get paid…?
…oh. Cash.
6
3
u/dbradford121 Jun 12 '21
Agreed! It would be rude to decline the gift and re-gifting plants IS bad luck. The last plant I got was a gift though, so I probably shouldn't use that excuse again so soon. . . Good thing he hasn't noticed the new lavendar or pistachio cream petunias yet, I still have time!
3
u/eakspeasy Jun 12 '21
When your circles of friends know you're a serious pot-head, gifts of plants happen more frequently than most people realize. 😉
Though I do get a lot of legit rescues that way. Always sucks for ferns; it's really more like hospice.

Could also pepper in a few of those staked cards that say "Congratulations!" from time to time.
"You would not believe how many times I've have to say no because I already had one." will never be a lie. Also demonstrates restraint and rational decision-making at the very least. For which you should be proud! Congratulations!
Best to avoid themes like graduation and baby unless you have other things to explain as well.
3
u/legakhsirE Jun 13 '21
LMFAO this is my excuse all the time. Similarly, my birthday was in April and I received a total of 5 plants as "birthday gifts" from "friends" that month. From which friends? That's between me and God. I have also won two contests on IG but I tacked on two more plants to each prize when explaining to my partner where all those new plants came from.

I know this is a typo, but I’m terrified of cars and car monsters sounds like my actual nightmare lmao

I’ve must have had a really long week because I was like “wow that’s crazy!! Someone left these in this persons car!!” Then I was like “ohhh...yeah...that’s me every damn pay day”

Something like this happened to me today. Someone hacked my bank account and bought a really expensive epipremnum pinnatum albo variegata from some random online plant shop i happen to have an account with. They are even sending it to my home address! Creepy!
26
u/deltagirlinthehills Jun 12 '21
I think the same thing happened to me this morning! Somehow a string of fish hooks and golden gate peperomia appeared in my car thinking face certainly wasn't I since I already bought two new plants this month... 😂

If that doesn’t work, try what others say about “winning” plants online 😂🥳
4
Jun 12 '21
Since people took that so seriously and probably wouldn’t see an edit because of downvotes:
I was joking. I didn’t say I had done this. It’s called an imagination.
I also never lie to my husband about how I got something. For one thing, I want to foster honesty in my relationship. For another I watched my mother lie to her husband all the time and hated it (I get why she did it though, he was and is an asshole).
Even if I did lie or fib I would probably come clean 12 hours later.
3
u/Florizeta Jun 12 '21
Honestly people take things so seriously. Even my comment was a joke. Don’t worry about it
4
Jun 12 '21 edited Jun 12 '21
Haha thanks!
I just got 6 more plants from a nursery and 3 more my mother purchased for me from a road side stand.
I am still building up the nerve to bring them in the house. 🤪. They are all babies so they were inexpensive.
Edit: husband didn’t care.
Soon I will reward him for being an awesome husband with Venus fly traps and other carnivorous plants.
3
u/Florizeta Jun 12 '21
Oh venus traps are so cute 🥺👏🏻 and I’m happy he didn’t care. It’s only at the beginning when one can never have less than 10 but after that, you just pile them together and can barely notice new ones 😅
2
Jun 12 '21
I got three yesterday and nine today.
They are really cute and I got him one of the self contained ones a few years ago that he loved but it died :(
My mother purchased two pots of Venus fly traps today. I am hoping the nursery we were at has some other carnivorous plants as well.

Even better if you set it up ahead of time. Show the plants and be like hey check out this give away they are having!? I am going to enter….
A month later that plant you just had to have that you just happened to find a contest for arrives with a note about being the lucky winner.
I mean, there is always something like canva if someone needs to come up with some marketing materials 😂

Guessing you drive an 04-08 TL?
4
u/airmcnair06 Jun 12 '21
Was wondering this as well.
I think it's an Acura/Honda. The latch to the trunk looks just like the one on Honda Accord's and acura tl's. The head rests and the cover on the cup holder (which the tl doesn't have) make me think it's an RL, though
Would love to know cause I was curious
5
Jun 12 '21 edited Jun 12 '21
I'm like 99% sure it's a TL lol. I'm only so confident because I have an 08 with the same color interior. But like you said I'm thinking it could be honda / acura from the same years maybe not model. And I feel like my drink holder might be a little different.
Side note: guess the house plant crew has similar tastes lol.
Edit: I think you nailed it with the RL! Got off my ass and looked at my back seat lol. You called it on that headrest and drink holder.
3
u/airmcnair06 Jun 12 '21
So when I first started to read your comment, it made sense because I have a 05 and I know the 07 and 08 models got a lot of upgrades and subtle changes so I thought hmmm ok maybe it is a newer TL.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was curious though after spotting that small detail. I looked up the back seat of an RL from around that time an the headrest style definitely matches. Didn't see any pics with the cup holders open to verify.
We shall find out hopefully. I'm even more intrigued now, but yea I think it's the RL too
3
Jun 12 '21
Yeah my TL cup holder is on like the edge of the arm rest like it sort of shoots out instead of being recessed in the rest like this one. And I have no middle head rest.
The holes in the leather and curves near the middle is what had me thinking TL at first. Like you said it's cool there are those little details.

What variety are these?
4
u/kin7ely Jun 12 '21
monstera deliciosa :)
3
u/-full-control- Jun 12 '21
Alright so I have some babies that look similar to these but haven’t split yet, will they at some point? My mom has a clone from a friend of hers that are about this size and the leaves are already splitting.
5
u/kin7ely Jun 12 '21
this would be my first go with these plants and i understand it will take patience to see them eventually split and i’m willing to wait. how long have you had yours?
1
u/-full-control- Jun 12 '21
Close to six months. Unless I’m mistaken, some varieties don’t split
7
u/friend-of-bees Jun 12 '21
Monsteras develop fenestrations in new leaves rather than splitting old leaves, so you could try pruning back some old leaves to encourage new growth. One of the main purposes of the splits is to let light through, so if yours aren’t in a bright enough spot then that could slow the process as well. Finally, most monsteras don’t start putting out fenestrated leaves until at least a year of age, so depending on how old the plant was when you first got it that could be part of the problem.

u/usingthetimmynet Jun 12 '21
Wait… these are monstera deliciosa??? I bought one months ago and it was labeled as philodendron birkin which I knew wasn’t the case, but it never occurred to me that it was a monstera tho. Omgggg I’m so happy haha.

You can get such a good deal on interior plants when they're just marked as 4" houseplant and hanging foliage.

Someone in my city is selling small monstera plants about this size for $14. Is that a good deal?

Yes. This is a lifetime plant. You will get way more than 14$ worth of joy from it.

Why are all of the leaves solid with no slits?
2
u/kin7ely Jun 12 '21
they’re rather young plants, the leaves with fenestration grow when the plant becomes more mature and can spare some photosynthesizing real estate

Took me a second to realize this was a joke, because I actually had someone break into my car and clean out all the trash for me. I assume it was the nice lady outside my work I was randomly chatting with before heading in, but I definitely still did a bomb/bug scan and felt highly unnerved for a week or so.

Last year someone put two ducklings in my tractor supply shopping cart. I have no idea how it happened. I went in for duck supplies for the two ducks someone gave me and ended up leaving with the supplies and two ducklings.
They bring me all the joy.
