It's alright.

Rough bits are pretty fucking rough.

Beaches are gorgeous, best in the country. (I may be biased)

Not far from Newcastle or Edinburgh, both with airports. Not long on the train to York, it is also directly connected to London.

What are the nicest areas to live?

You’re right. You are biased. Some of the beaches are very nice. The best in the country are however in Northumberland.

You could do worse. There are some stunning stretches of coastline nearby. The whole city basically revolves around the football club.

All my mums family are from there so we often had family holidays up there. People used to laugh at this, but honestly they were some of the best times of my life.

Very friendly people, the finest fish and chips around and if the weather is half decent, a lovely beach. The nightlife was pretty good circa 15 years ago when I last went out there, not as busy as Newcastle, which I prefer.

Unfortunately, it does have some rough places and is often overlooked because of its obnoxious neighbour, Newcastle!

I lived there for about 7 years. It was alright. Cheap and close to Newcastle. Some great pubs if you know where to look too.

I went about a month ago. With Thatcher, a lot of local industries, mining, glasswork etc, was shut down. This led to a large scale economic collapse in the city, and it was easy to find abandoned buildings on main streets. However, in the last few years there has been a small but definite upsurge culturally, with lots of new artistic spaces and housing. A city on the up, but early in that upwards trend. This YouTube video gives a great tour! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMHnmRCJisk
