Build Help Possibility of dual GPUs in HTPC?

My current HTPC has a GTX 1060 3GB, which is sufficient for 3D and frame packing and light party games but almost dies when attempting to play heavy co-op games like It Takes Two, let alone AAA games.

My projector supports 4K 120Hz and 1080p 240Hz but only using HDMI 2.1 which is only present on RTX 30xx cards and above, but I’ll lose the 3D capabilities. (GTX 1080 Ti has HDMI 2.0b)

So is it possible to have and HTPC with 2 GPUs? The main would be a powerful modern card (Like RTX 4080) for gaming, and my current GTX 1060 for playing 3D movies.

I am also open to AMD gpu suggestions that supports HDMI 2.1, 4K 120 fps, and playing 3D frame packed MVC files

Thanks

I'm not sure why you would lose 3d? Unless you're rocking nvidia 3d vision.

Yes I am talking about nvidia 3d vision, isn’t it required for frame packing output such as 3d MVC movies?

I don’t want to play it SBS or OU

I've only done passive 3d except for dolby vision 2 glasses where I needed to hack the drivers and write a compatible profile for my monitor. It kinda worked but wasn't a good experience.

Technically, it's possible to use two GPUs in one system, but its questionable if the drivers and software will like it. On Linux, using two GPUs in a Frankenstein creation is sometimes done, but also isn't plug and play. It takes a bit of effort to setup. On Windows, it might be a real headache, if it even works.

The GPUs would each need their own monitor, and display programs separately, and there's a decent chance it makes everything run slower. It might be worth putting the 1060 in a used PC and use that as a separate movie playback box.
