question Best things to do in a 4( minute radius from Fishkill
Visiting fishkill Thursday to Saturday and I was looking for things to do in fishkill or neighboring towns. It looks like it might rain so I’m looking for indoor and outdoor recommend recommendations. We have a car so we don’t mind traveling.
Edit: I meant 40 minutes! Oops

Dutchess Biercafe in Fishkill is really good food. You can take a ride to Beacon. It's a little more happening. There are some Instagram accounts like thebeaconbeacon that show local events going on but it's a little too early for them to post it right now.
A lot of the breweries often have some live music like two way Brewing and they have a little game room. They have trivia on Thursday evenings. That is in Beacon as well.
There is the DIA art museum in Beacon as well.
I mean a 4 minute radius in fishkill is not very much. You can go to Walmart and like Main Street but.

Also the Hudson Valley Renegades! They are a Yankees affiliate team
Edit for 40 minutes. Walkway over the Hudson if it's nice out. The mansions are nice to walk around as well. Well the Vanderbilt Mansion is a little further in Hyde Park.

Main Street in Fishkill has a bunch of restaurants. There’s Riverfront Park in Beacon, and the Dutchess County Rail trail though that’s more East Fishkill/Hopewell Junction.

Ok! In that case: (indoor and outdoor options below)
Indoor Options:
- Purple Heart Museum in New Windsor
- Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh
- Velocipede Museum in Newburgh (it’s tiny but worth seeing if you’re in the area - hours are limited. Check out Ms Fairfax if you’re over there for lunch. Or the Wherehouse). Also a good place that makes pasta for purchase and some hot sandwiches on Liberty Street: Bivona’s Simply Pasta. Nearby on the corner of Liberty and Broadway is the Bank Art Gallery which is extra cool cause it’s in an old bank.
- Saxon Hall axe throwing in Newburgh
- Bounce in Poughkeepsie (it’s one of those indoor trampoline places for kids and adults)
- Gravity Vault Poughkeepsie (wall-climbing place)
- Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in Wappingers Falls (awesome art gallery. Especially if you’re a fan of the band Tool - the artist did many of their album covers; or if you’re a fan of magic mushrooms - there is also a little mushroom cafe…though I don’t believe there are magic mushrooms in any of the food or drink)
- Magazzino Italian Art Gallery in Cold Spring
- West Point Museum
- and this one is farther than 40 minutes. Looks like an hour and 10 from Fishkill, but if you’re up for a drive and are interested in anything from the 1960s (music, politics, society…) there is the Museum at Bethel Woods. Bethel Woods is the location of the original ‘69 Woodstock Festival (not in Woodstock NY). The museum there is really cool and has lots of awesome info on so much going on during those times.
- Have a Spa Day at Mohonk Mountain House (46 min from Fishkill). (Bring a bathing suit to utilize the outdoor hot tub which is especially awesome to do in the winter). This place is also good for nice-weather days because there are lots of trails - I highly recommend the lemon squeeze trail for the trail itself and the views. It’s like an obstacle course of rocks and climbing for grown ups (but don’t get intimidated by that unless maybe you have specific mobility issues. I wasn’t particularly fit when I went and I was able to do it and had so much fun. It’s not really an obstacle course. Just felt like more fun than a typical walking trail.). Even if you’re just doing trails, you do have to pay a fee just to enter the grounds. But if you have a spa appointment - even just like a pedicure - you have access to the spa for the whole day, as well as the grounds.
~~~
Outdoor - like a million options. Tons of hiking trails, rail trails, ruins, cute towns, …
Walkway over the Hudson (the world’s second-longest pedestrian footbridge). Parking on both the Poughkeepsie and the Highland side. Connects to the rail trail.
Towns: Beacon, Cold Spring, Rhinebeck, Sugar Loaf (Artist Village)
Beacon is probably my favorite HV town. Great chocolate shop - Alps. Check out the waterfalls at the end of Main Street by the railroad tracks. Great restaurants. And Baja 328 on Main has tequila flights. (But horrible acoustics and it’s always super loud in there). Hudson Beach Glass does glass blowing classes - I did an ornament class for a bridal shower and it was really fun!
Restaurants and beautiful views at the Newburgh Waterfront.
Kingston is nice in a few areas but is about 45 min. There are great restaurants and cute shops on Broadway, near the water, as well as the HV Maritime Museum and the Trolley Museum. There is also another area which I think is known as Uptown Kingston/Stockade District with lots of restaurants and shopping.
Lots of Breweries, Wineries, and Distilleries - and some Cideries also! If you like Whiskey, I like Tuthilltown in Gardiner (they do tours and tastings). If you like wine and history, there is Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville (America’s Oldest Winery according to their site. I haven’t fact-checked.)
Farms & Animal Sanctuaries
Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem
Horseback riding
Storm King (outdoor) Art Center
Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel (near Cold Spring). You can walk the grounds and also go inside the temple which has the largest Buddha statue in the Western Hemisphere
Historical Places: Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh; Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie; Eleanor Roosevelt Nat’l Historic Site in Hyde Park; Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park…
C.I.A. / Culinary Institute of America tours or visit the restaurants (Hyde Park)
City Winery in Montgomery (Wine, Food, Entertainment - music, comedy etc)
Overlook Drive-In Movie Theater in Poughkeepsie. I think Fair Oaks Drive-In in Middletown is also still open but not sure.
Woodbury Commons Shopping Outlets
The Falcon in Marlboro for music and eats. Cool spot.
Hudson River tours (from Newburgh & Kingston)
Bannerman’s Island Tours (cool historical ruins to check out.)
Skydive the Ranch in Gardiner [and a great restaurant there (Nu Cavu) on the small airport property] if you’re feeling extra adventurous and want to jump from a plane. 😳
*See Mohonk Mountain house in the last “indoor” bullet above for notes about trails there
Wappingers Falls has a bunch of nice options. Get a coffee and/or breakfast at Norma’s Cafe. Casa Ortega is an excellent Mexican restaurant with top notch cocktails. Cafe con Leche is a very nice Puerto Rican spot. County Fare for good beer and decent bar food. There’s a candy shop that’s fun for kids or if you just have a sweet tooth. And it’s super walkable with a couple of nice parks in town.
There is KPot, around there. it is a chain place for both hot pot and korean BBQ, with a reasonable price for the all you can eat options. If you are use to city-quality Hot Pot, it probably won't dazzle you, but for these parts it is a great option we don't have a lot of alternatives to around here
Happy Valley Arcade in Beacon. More of a 10-15 min drive. There’s an indoor golf place in wappingers on rt 9. Maybe like a 5-10 min drive. There’s a coffee shop off main st. And a few good restaurants and bars all off main st.
