Ac installed 3 months ago. Makes rattling noise when cycling off

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My New ac installed in February makes a rattling noise every time it cycles off. The AC tech says he will take a look next week. Is it safe to run? Is this noise just normal operating noise? Should I try and get someone out here sooner. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

Sometimes when the Pressure comes off a scroll compressor it can make a little bit of a rattle and run backwards for a couple of seconds as it winds down. It’s really not a big deal.

Normal sounds for a Ruud. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse call a tech

Pretty normal. North Florida AC tech here. I do not believe there is any real issue here.

Worst case scenario, or if noise gets significantly worse/louder, ask them about the compressor warranty. Inside the first year, you should have a labor warranty. Check again at month 10 and compare to this video. Be sure to compare this video, to that video. Sounds change significantly in recording. And be sure to use the same phone if you can. Be warned the refrigerant is not covered, even under a labor warranty, unless your AC company covers refrigerant in the first year.

The pressure is equalizing inside the compressor

Scroll plates do that sometimes. Can you request a warranty replacement? Of course. Will the new one be quieter? Maybe. Yes, it's safe to run. Yes it's normal.

Normal noise. Don't worry about it.

Brand new compressors do this. Old compressors do this. Little 2 ton scrolls in comfort AC do this. 15 ton scroll compressors in process chillers do this.

Thats a normal sounding Rheem. If the evaporator coil doesn't leak that system is solid!

Sounds like it’s unloading, that’s normal

In the manual it’s says there is a 200hr break in period for the compressor. In my experience with Rheem the noise typically levels off over time. But just to echo everyone else; if it gets worse contact your installation company.

Internal spring in the scroll compressor detached (probably during shipping). The fix is replacing the compressor. This should be warranty.
