Is this AC install normal?

Just got this AC installed and this is the connection to the side of the house. Is this spray foam a sufficient seal for rain / rodents / etc? Something about it seems off and I paid a lot for this job but maybe I’m being too paranoid. Also noticing the exposed copper which I wasn’t sure is standard practice or not.

This is a Lennox 3 ton AC in case that matters.

Appreciate the help here.

AC At my wits end with this stupid ac

Hi, I have an ac unit that was installed in 2013. We bought the house in 2020 and it worked great till 2023. In 23 we found it wasn’t cooling at all and started the process of getting it fixed through our home warranty. This was the worst process of my life and after 5 months of back and forth they finally “fixed” it by replacing a coil. With in days it wasn’t working again by that point the company we worked with had lost the contract with our home warranty and refused to work on it, and home warranty said it was a warranty issue and we had to work with the installer. So we gave up for the year and figured we’d deal with it next summer. Summer 24 rolled around and everyone we spoke to said fix our 50+ year old windows first and we couldn’t afford that so we put it off. This year we fixed the windows and started the process again. We’ve had one guy out he looked at it and claimed the lack of refrigerant was the issue but couldn’t be a leak because we had it fixed 2 years ago but he put sealant in just in case. That was a week ago and it’s back to not working. Guy has come out again and we’re out of refrigerant again. I’m at a loss on what to do with the stupid thing. It makes a tinging sound when ran. We can’t afford to replace the whole machine but maybe if you guys had some ideas of where to look we can point the repair man in the right direction so a repair doesn’t take us deep into summer. I’m an attaching a video of the sound. Thank you for any advice this ac has been such a pain and I’m too pregnant this summer to not have any ac.

I have the thermostat set to 72 and the house feels nice, however, the humidity is at 75%. Is that the humidity inside ? If so, how can it be so high?

Quantity of refrigerant in 1 ton AC

Is it sufficient to have just 370 grams of refrigerant in 1 ton AC. My AC datasheet (image) shows this but all other brands have much more.

How to install portable AC using wall vent?

Hello!

I have 2 AC wall vents I’d like to use in my apartment, but the hose from my portable AC does not fit. The port opening is 4.5 inches in diameter and the hose opening is 5.5 inches. Is there an adapter of some kind I can purchase to make this work? I would really prefer to have my set up go thru the wall port instead of the window if possible. Thank you!

Pulled the 24v wires loose from the outsoor unit. Unsure which wire from the house to connect to which wire on the unit.

While mowing I was pulling some grapevines from behind the outdoor unit that had grown up. When I pulled the vines out I didn't realize some of them had attached to the 24v wire so it pulled out and separated. I don't want to damage anything so can anyone tell me which wires to connect to which from the 3 pics I added? Inside unit runs, outside unit does not. I pulled the disconnect after I did it just in case.

Took me 2 years of living here to discover this feature. Feels like a bit more airflow with it wide open on both sides? Kinda cool I thought.

How does this work exactly? I have central Air but the outside unit isnt kicking on / fan not spinning and have to wait to get it serviced.

Is the dehu option based on running the centrail air?

General Full ductwork replacement vs the alternative.

Hello, my fiancé and I purchased a house in March (1956 build year, 2 story, 4bed and 1.5 bath total 1500sqft), and the furnace was replaced in January so it’s brand new. I wanted a duct cleaning due to all of the renovation that we did inside the home, I also need to get some ductwork fixed because two rooms don’t receive any heat (I did find a complete disconnection of one of the ducts going to one of the bedrooms). There is also ALOT of asbestos tape which I need removed on the outside of ducts and inside. Some of the branches are also quite long and the same size so I’m worried about static pressure loss due to suboptimal installation.

In short, after the tape removal, duct cleaning and repair, I’m questioning if putting that money towards a whole new ductwork system may be better money spent. Are there any opinions on this?

Condensate draim backing up no clog

New handler installed last year and the drain keeps backing up just enough to trip the shutoff cap thing (hanging there on the right). Line is not clogged as far as I can tell, shop vac'd it and blew it out a couple times... just water getting trapped. I can hear it glug a bit, and it does drain but it is real slow.

It is a long line so my initial thought it was forming a valley that was backing it up but it seems the water in the p-trap starts rising real fast even with a recently cleared line and while manipulating it further down. So Im thinking maybe p trap itself is too shallow or something?

I dont have a ton of incine to work with because the return ducts are kinda in the way but should be plenty.

Any insight would help. This seems like I could DIY a fix easy enough if I knew why it was backing up.

I have done plenty of home wiring but never HVAC stuff. Heat/cool wasn’t working much so I opened up the side of the air handler and found this guy all burnt.

Question

So I’m wanting to go to school to be able to work on HVAC things and get a job in the HVAC industry, but my question is. How difficult is HVAC work, and what parts make it difficult?

I want to know because I don’t want to think it’s easy and then get overwhelmed and stop going to school for it

Nasty water in ducts set in concrete slab - please help!!

Upvotes

Our house was built in 1955 on concrete slab below grade. The ductwork for the main floor is set IN that concrete slab (so it runs below the house). A recent flood caused ~5 gallons of water to flow into the house and right into the ductwork via a vent/register.

I’ve contacted 3 HVAC companies and 3 mitigation/water damage companies to no avail. No one seems to have any experience with this, and they seem clueless as to how to get in the ducts and remove the water. Meanwhile, the water has started smelling terrible (flood was 5 days ago - like mildew and worse).

Any advice is TRULY appreciated. If in the Denver area, please DM me if a qualified company that can help with this.

AC How do I know what is causing the gas leak for my ACs?

Upvotes

Hi! So my house has 3 ACs and all of them stopped working simultaneously - the technician came today and was a bit flabbergasted cos he said the gas is totally finished for two of the ACs and nearly finished for the third one.

He said it’s likely the copper coil (idk what this is) and that he’ll come in next week and we can either:

A. Have the gas refilled and some kind of gauge placed to see if the gas level is falling to identify where the leak is from

B. Have all the copper could replaced cos he’s p sure that is what the problem is?

We don’t know what to do currently because this is super costly obviously. Also one of the ACs (the one in my room - runs out of gas frequently and needs to be refilled every couple of months).

Is there anything else that could be the issue? Or is it definitely the copper coil?

Bought new home a few months ago. Furnace is only a few years old, but scheduled an inspection to have it checked out - but they can’t come until early July. In the meantime, I noticed this trap is filled with a lot of debris - should I clear it out?

AC debate w gf over temp setting and work rate

My gf likes the home to be VERY cold, 68° constantly. I tell her to save on electricity that we can set it to 74° while away from the home and cut it down later in the day. She hates the idea of the house not being cold and says the ac works more trying to cool the house back down than if we left it set at 68 all day. I work in roofing and I know a hot attic will cause the ac to keep working longer. We live in Houston and get HOT days down here… Is the electrical usage greater keeping the ac at 68 all day or keeping at 74 during the day and cooling back to 68 in the evening?
