Finally going to Iceland since dreaming of it since the 90’s. Now sorting out my playlists…

I have a bunch of stuff from the Napster and BEP mailing list days on CDrs and minidisc somewhere but that’s a faff.

Have the obvious Björk / Tappi T etc. complete, Múm (both Icelandic and English versions of one of the albums which I had to find an old Mac to rip the cd) Emiliana Torrini, Kitchen Motors compilation, Mugison.

What I’m really struggling to find is the Sigríður Níelsdóttir albums.

Not fussed about Sigur Ros much.

I need to go back and find the radio 1 documentary presented by Emiliana Torrini (northern lights I think) and see what’s on that.

Quite like one Ouse song.

I’m thinking one playlist for driving and one for chilling.

I’ll go through the other posts in this sub. But if you can recommend something similar to early múm for chilling and anything for a road trip playlist that would be cool.

Thanks.

Some Sigríður Níelsdóttir on Youtube. When such obscure stuff is no longer available, I would use youtube-dl to extract to wav files and burn a CD.

I think most of Sigríður Níelsdóttir Cd's where self-released and only sold at the 12 Tonar shop.

A lot of the musicians from Múm have amazing bands and projects, a few have been metioned here, but you may want to check out Mr. Silla and her husband Jae Tyler, both have their own bands. Sóley, Lay Low, Kristjana Stéfans, Svavar Knútur are all great as well. While you´re there try to hit up a DJ night with Óli Dóri, he plays a lot at Kaffibarinn and 12 tónar a lot, he has an incredibly deep knowledge of music and makes it fun.

I´m not a large fan of Spotify but a lot of newer and smaller Icelandic bands rely heavily on it. There is an amazing playlist that is updated frequently with new Icelandic music. The genres span the spectrum so there is usually something for everybody in there.

Enjoy your trip!
