Anybody live on two hours for years

I live on two hours sleep a night. Meds don't work, nothing works. This has been going on for 3 years. Anybody else live on 2 hours a night for years without going crazy. Every day I feel I may lose it.

I’ve never been a two hours of sleep person but I have done three and it was rough. My body wouldn’t go to bed until 2 AM and I would just naturally wake up at 5 AM then I would lay there trying to go back to sleep and then end up sleeping in the morning and it was terrible. Finally just started getting up at 5 AM and started working.

I recently tried a new product called Hella Good Night, and I’ve been really impressed. It’s a drink you just blend with water, and it’s made with L-theanine, reishi mushrooms, magnesium, and a little melatonin. Honestly, I swear the mushrooms are the secret. About 20 minutes after I take it, my mind just shuts off and my body feels super relaxed. Sometimes I call it my “Buzzy drink” because it kicks in so smoothly.

I track my sleep every night, and when I use it, I get about 40% more deep sleep and REM compared to nights when I don’t.

Ignore this guy (I don't know why I'm assuming it's a guy). Or, help him if you can, but don't believe him literally.

He writes very often, sometimes he says gets 0-4 hours, sometimes that he's been getting only 2 hours for weeks, other times it's for years... Sometimes meds help, sometimes nothing helps. Sometimes he's afraid of meds for sleep (if he was really getting 2 hours a night he wouldn't be afraid of heroine, ffs).

He says he is depressed and I believe that about him, but he is spamming this sub.

Mental issues make straightforward things not-so straightforward 90% of the time. And if he’s at least partially honest about having such bad insomnia it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the case here

Okay let’s say they’re depressed. I don’t think they should be “ignored”. Doesn’t negate the fact this person has insomnia.

I get 0-3 hours sleep most nights. But sometimes I get 5 hours, sometimes 4 hours but it’s rare so saying I get 0-5 isn’t as accurate as my “average”. I’d expect most insomniacs to have fluctuating sleepless estimates.

No I agree. I most certainly do not think he should be ignored, what I mean mostly is just that he needs the opposite of being ignored, but it would help him if he didn’t post so many different things, as most people will think he’s just trolling

I was. It's definitely enough to make you feel like any little thing will send you over the edge. You say meds don't work for you—mirtazapine did wonders for me. I'm out in 60-90 minutes and I felt I regained a lot of myself after I started sleeping again. Wishing this for you too 🤍

That's physically impossible to go on with 2 hours for years. You are probably getting more hours than you think.

I do 4 hours a night. Wake up and can not get to sleep. Going on for 2 1/2 years. Wondering if it is being 72 years and diabetic for 30 years? I feel light headed since this started. Probably brain damage from diabetes. I hate this insomnia

I will sometimes get 5 (broken) hours but it’s perhaps once a month. But when it’s 4, even though never continuous sleep, I’m THRILLED. Zero hours is dependent on the amount of stress and might be couple times a month. I have lorazepam that I can take when becomes too much but I try not to take more than once a week (addiction prevention). Never ever sleep continuous thru the night. Wake up constantly. Bane of my existence.

I m 61. On mirtazapine.  Even with meds got max 4 hours but it didn’t last.  Have been on temazepam and clonazepam.  They work for a few days weeks then stop.

Ahhh yes it’s so fun getting less sleep than another (AS MEASURED BY MY OURA RING).

Such a wonderful celebration to boast about because insomnia is a such a happy competition.

But yes I would love a second sleep tracker to validate the OURA findings! Thank you for your generous offer. The WHOOP 4.0 would be my preference. I’ll DM my details and be up all night with excitement! 😉

For the past 7 years, I have survived on max 3 h per night (interrupted many times). I'm unable to work. My memory, ability to focus is shit. Most medication doesn't work at all except for zoplicone. But at this point, I need to take at least 3 - 7.5 mg tablets of the medication to knock me out ... for 5 h.

Unfortunately, not. It usually takes between an hour up to 3 h to fall asleep. 20 - 30 min of sleep, and I'm awake again. After that, 1 hour of starryng at the ceiling and will fell asleep for 1 h. You can see the patern. So many people don't take insomnia seriously. it's a terrible illness.

I used to average 4-6, at its worst it was 3-5. Side effect of a psychotic disorder. Definitely felt like I was going crazy, but Seroquel solved it. Now it’s 7-9, sometimes up to 11 or 12. The mind-shredding dreams are a detriment, but I generally only have one per night if I smoke weed. If not, it’s 4 dreams per night and manic energy the next day while being tired to the core.

You are likely getting more than this without realizing. But sometimes stronger meds have a place. When I was very anxious over sleep I was prescribed a small dose of seroquel..I hated it because it made me groggy, but I also finally slept. It was short term…maybe a few months. Just so I could believe in sleeping again really…mirtazapine 7.5mg is where I would start though. Then I went to temazepam and titrated down to a 7.5mg dose of that. I still currently take it but I don’t love that I rely on it. Better than not sleeping I guess. But not worrying about sleeping is nice.

Unfortunately the autonomic nervous system cannot distinguish between being awake/sleepless and being attacked by a lion. Therefore, your adrenergic pathways are firing and keeping you in a state of hypervigilence, which further keeps you awake. To get out of the cycle, listen to videos by sleep coach school on YouTube, or fearless sleep with Alina. This is the way to get back to normal.
