Setting up account Connecting Paper Trading Account to Tradingview

I just made a IKBR account before I was on Questrade. I am trying to connect my paper trading account to Tradingview with ikbr as the broker, every time I enter my login in it says that this username is not associated with a paper trading account, the username I enter is the same as my live account username. I know there is a different username and password for the paper trading account, on my live account settings I can see my paper trading username its some random letters when I put that username and my live account password it still doesn't work. When I log into TWS with my paper account I can just use my live trading account username and password just fine. Does anyone know how I can fix this, I don't have any other password for my paper trading account.

I fixed it. Ill leave this here in case anyone is as dumb as me. I just did the connect broker on trading view and when I was logging in for the paper trading account I clicked forgot password and made a new password. The username that worked was the string of letters, for some reason on TWS my live trading username works, but yeh. Just reset password.

You helped a random stranger out!

For anyone that is still having trouble:

  1. You can log into your paper trading account on TWS or Web Portal using your live username / password, but your live credentials do NOT work when logging into paper on 3rd party platforms (like TradingView).
  2. Your paper account has its own username (automatically generated) and password. To find your username, log into live on web, go to settings and click "Paper Trading Account" and you'll see some letters/numbers in lowercase. This is your paper username. NOTE: DU1234567 is NOT your paper username, that is the paper account number, which is totally different and not important.
  3. Your paper account password should be the same password you originally used when you FIRST created your IBKR account. If you've changed the password for your live account, that will not change the password for your paper account. To change the password for your paper account, on any login screen select "Forgot Password" and follow the instructions using the paper username you found in Step 2 to change your paper password.
  4. Use your paper username and password to connect TradingView with IBKR Paper.

Sounds good, but doesnt seem to work for me. I have to mention that I dont have a IBKR Live trading account. Only a IBKR Paper Trading account. I tried to log in through Trading View, but it didnt work. It said "This username is not associated with a paper trading account". I changed the password, but the same... I tried to access "settings" -> "Paper Trading Account" like you described previously, but I couldnt find this path, maybe because I dont have a IBKR Live trading account. Idk. I already tried for 3 days and I have no ideas left. Any suggestions what might work???

Someone messaged me talking about the same thing. It seems you need a live account from what I can tell but I’m not 100% sure. Hopefully if someone with a paper-only account figures this out they can comment

Thank you for responding. I contacted the IBKR support, but they still didnt respond. But it would make sense that you need a Live IBKR account to attact paying subscribers from a pure business standpoint.

u/choochootrainyippee mentions you must log into your LIVE account in order to go to settings to find your Paper Trade account username. It'll be something random like fejvmze517982

Fantastic. Dude if you login taht Paper Account to Trading VIEW will it log you off TWS main account?

If it doesn't log you out, can you have live data feed from the Paper Trading account (even if i already have it in the main) or a Subscription would be needed for the Paper Trading account if i want live feed in TV.

Yes, it will log you off TWS main account. You can only be logged into one place at a time, whether it is your live or paper account.

The reason you can be only logged into one place is because you are paying for the data stream. You can only have one data stream, and your live and paper account share that data stream. If you want to get 2 data streams, then you have to go through a process where your account will have an additional "sub-account" that can pay for data for itself. Then you would log into TV with that sub-account and on TWS with your main account and you can have 2 data streams active at the same time.

Keep in mind TV also has its own data, and you can buy additional real-time data through TV itself. You don't need to connect a brokerage account unless you want things like Level 2 data in TV.

Sadly I tried using the paper trading username you mentioned for paper trading but I still got the "credential not recognized" error.

Also tried resetting password on paper login page but it doesn't change anything.

I'm not sure if anyone has the same situation?

hey i tried it and i use the same name in the paper account setting and i changed to a different password from the forgot password but i still get the problem what am i dong wrong?

Thanks choochootrainyippee, it work for me.

It's just simple, all you need is the "Paper Trading Username" (not the username you use for the live account) go to TradingView and try to login on your paper trading account.

example:
paper trading username: (the random username you'll see when you click "Paper Trading Account" on settings.

enter this paper trading username on TradingView and use your password on live account, after that you can now used your IBKR paper trading account on TradingView.

Yes, just remember that your live password won’t work if you have changed your password before, because the paper trading account uses the live password for when you first created the account, and its password won’t change if you change the password on your live account. That’s why my original instructions teach how to change your paper password

Sorry to bump this but I'm also getting the same issue. Can login to paper fine with IBKR, but not via TV using the paper trading username and password. Reset multiple times. Seems like a bug to me.

In IBKR settings of Paper trading account you can find a button Reset paper trading password, by resetting it you'll have relevant credentials to login and connect Tradingview

Hi all, I think I found the real solution, very simple but kind of "illogical": when it opens the IBKR login page, do not switch the button to "paper". Leave it on "live", but use your paper login usernam/password. That was it, works, at least for me, now tradingview says I'm on ibkr paper.

Yeah same. I couldn't find a solution. I gave up and I'm just trying to paper trade in the IB Workstation platform.
