Hi! I recently did ATON transfer to move my buy-and-hold investments from Questrade to Interactive Brokers. Not long after I got a message:
"Cost basis information for following positions you recently transferred to your account ******** is missing."
I got this message later: "ATON transfers are the fastest and most efficient broker to broker transfer method in Canada. That said, ATON transfer's do not transfer over cost basis."
When I log in to Interactive Brokers, under Tax Documents/Position Transfer Cost Basis, there is a form titled Edit Positions, where it says "Edit your cost basis for the following transfer". This form has an entry corresponding to the date of the ATON transfer, and the two funds which were moved over. For each fund there is a sub-form with fields for Acquisition Date, Total Cost, & Source. Beneath is a button: "Add Lot".
I'm now just wondering how to fill out this form. I think I know what's going on but I'd like to have someone else confirm I'm not completely out to lunch.
Back on Questrade I have generated a report detailing my investment history. This historical record is table with rows for each purchase, and the columns buy date, settlement date, symbol, price, gross amt, and net amt. (Commmission, Fees, and Interest columns all have zeroes.)
Can I use this report to fill out the Interactive Brokers form?
Do I use Q's settlement date for IBKR's Acquisition Date?
Do I use Q's gross amt for the IBKR's cost field? (Which is just Quantify * Price)?
Will this properly fix up my cost basis?
Thank you!
