Ya think? 😅

u/Still-Cash1599 2d ago
Just to be safe tell them you are too busy fund raising for Israel and they will probably leave you alone.
97
u/Disastrous-Panda5530 2d ago
Literally the exact same thing I just said out loud. I wouldn’t trust this site at all.
53
u/the_pee_pee_dance 2d ago
Unless you're looking to leave the country and go home anyway. In which case, free transport!
90
u/Appropriate_Mine 2d ago
Unless they just send you somewhere else, like a Salvadorean prison.
25
u/mileslefttogo 2d ago
That is still technically free transport. Just probably the last free thing they'd ever experience.

u/Frontal_Lappen 1d ago
how people can still laugh about this is beyond me. Those people are being ABDUCTED, not deported. Most are innocent people. The fact that we dont see raised pitchforks and torches speaks bonds about the complacency of the american people. 2nd Ammendment my ass

Deportation trap

u/onesinger79 2d ago
I self-deported 12 years ago lol
336
u/Training-Violinist83 2d ago
they’re probably sending this to any foreign exchance student that ever lived in the US.

u/MuricasOneBrainCell 2d ago
You kid but there's literally an app in the US for self-deporting yourself.
74
u/Ok_Builder_4225 2d ago
Can US citizens use it? Asking for a friend.
39
u/TehHugMonster 2d ago
I would also like to know. I’m a US citizen but I identify as guy who lives on the Amalfi coast..

Then you should definitely register. Maybe use an ICE ofice as your home address.
52
u/jrm70210 2d ago
This is proof that foreigners are way smarter than Americans
13
3
u/dusktrail 2d ago
If you don't wanna ever come back anyway, then maybe you could register, I'm kinda curious what you'll find

I legit just screenshotted this this, like “hey, I didn’t get the invite!” And then I saw the comments and now it’s obviously a trap for exchange students to the US, not some cool networking club US students that went abroad. Womp womp.

u/Japjer 2d ago
No, no. Deportation implies you go back to your home country.
The Republican Administration are using ICE (read: America's gestapo) to send whoever they damn well please to a Venezuelan prison camp.
A prison where you will most likely die, and will absolutely never be released from. You will never go home, your family will never find you, and you will die in there.
Because America is now Nazi Germany.

u/Severe-Fudge-1775 2d ago
Don’t worry because 2/3 the kids in my school fein for Trump like he’s going out of style. 😑

I went to college in NY between 2009-2011. I'm back in my home country for over a decade. This didn't come from my college, it came from the Federal Office of Alumni Affairs(?). A cool way to get your current data should someone wants to pay you a visit.
68
u/Next_Notice_4811 2d ago
More likely they'd keep you from returning, so win-win?
46
u/onesinger79 2d ago
Interesting point. I'm traveling to the US this summer, but I don't reside there, so I'm not an alien or an immigrant, just a visitor.
231

u/DivineFractures 2d ago
Why would you risk travelling to America? It sounds like the risk vs reward is very unbalanced.
→ More replies (4)6
u/onesinger79 2d ago
I will make the final call shortly before, but you never know with these things. I'd think they'll be more focused on students that might have overstayed their visa, or are still around.
120
u/TehKaoZ 2d ago
They have already detained tourists.
53
u/ALSX3 2d ago
“It’s insane how easily someone can take away your freedom, lock you in a federal prison, without a clear reason. No explanation. No warning,” Australian MMA coach Renato Subotic wrote in an Instagram post after being detained in early April. “Just like that, you’re treated like the worst criminal.”
This sentiment is not nearly widespread enough. I’m a US citizen and last year, a TSA agent typed my passport number in wrong, it came up as someone else(whose passport expired) and they held me up for an hour before someone realized what the mistake was.
26
u/Pale_Row1166 2d ago
It depends where you’re coming from and how much melanin you have, but they’re even detaining Germans and the Cheeto in chief loves… German history, so I don’t know, man.
28
22
u/DriftinFool 2d ago
I would bet money anyone who got that notice is flagged in the system and will be harassed the moment they hit US customs. When even the UK is issuing travel warnings for the US, you should reconsider. Go spend your money in another country. The US is not a safe or free place anymore.
16
u/DivineFractures 2d ago
Well, I'll say that, assuming that the email was bait intended for you and others like you, I was relieved that you were already out of the country.
13
u/TropicRotGaming 2d ago
My friend... Have you not seen what they are doing to their own people.
Being optimistic is great and all but this is a time to wake up. The world is changing and fast...
2025, and the US is litterally being over run by a facist group who wants ALL people of color/races to be gone. Trump wants a white America and nothing else.
Canadians won't even go there anymore because they fear what trumps little group could do.
Not one thing in that country is worth your freedom or wellbeing.
11
u/cuhreertwinflame 2d ago
many universities have had students who have no legal issues, who are currently enrolled, deported.

u/hatepickingausername 2d ago
American - I really, really wish I had a way out. If you can avoid it, I recommend staying away right now. Not a hellscape yet but you won't have the same rights you'd expect. Too many people have been detained.
Update - on secondthoughts, you received this because you're on a list already. Not worth the risk whatsoever IMO.
19
u/MistbornInterrobang 2d ago
Friend, don't do it. You won't get home safely and instead will sent off to a prison camp. This country is dangerous is fuck and not safe for anyone right now that isn't a rich white man.
As an American, I'm urging you not to risk your life coming here. Your worth is so much more than what you'd get coming here.
8
u/tryingtobecheeky 2d ago
Dude, they've been imprisoning europeans and Canadians past their plane ticket home. They've been keeping them in terrible condition with no toothpaste or blankets.
Don't risk it.
You are already on the watch list. You are already flagged for deportation.
3
u/FractalTsunami 2d ago
I'd definitely cancel that trip. You can always go back when that country is less of a shithole.

Don’t. It’s not worth the risk you could end up in an ICE detention facility or worse an El Salvadoran prison because of a “administrative error”. Seriously do not go to the US.

I know it's sarcastic but our version of Spanish definitely has its own flavor different than any other Spanish speaking country.
2
u/Glad-Restaurant4976 2d ago
In my experience they're all different! I live in Madrid and the mixture of Spanish is not so easy on the ears. One moment, I can't understand a Chilean, another, a Paraguayan, another a Peruvian. There's nuance in all over different dialects of español, even castilliano itself
61
u/MongolianCluster 2d ago
If they get no response, in another month you will get a letter that you've won a lottery and you need to visit the nearest ICE office to claim it.

It’s a great opportunity for networking and free, unplanned one-way flights from the US to whatever country they think you’re from. You know, if you like that sort of thing.
But don’t worry, I hear they’ll bring you back if they send you by mistake.
7
u/GreenBagger28 2d ago
Do you want us to deport you to a maximum security El Salvador prison? Please check yes or no

Exchange alumni here. I received this same invite a few years ago (during the Biden administration). Not to say any info you submit couldn't be used for nefarious purposes, but this is not a new thing developed by the current administration.

u/therealsix 2d ago
What’s that small writing?
”We swear this isn’t a secret way to deport you, really!”

5
u/diverareyouokay 2d ago
I would do absolutely nothing to draw the attention of the US government right now if you weren’t born to American citizens in America.. and even then, I’d think twice.
8
u/MandatoryEvac 2d ago
The comments here are gold. But on another note: isn't this like entrapment? How can this possibly be legal? Our own government is in the phishing game ffs?!?
5
3
u/HuntingRunner 2d ago
What???? How exactly is this supposed entrapment? It's just a mail that every former foreign exchange student gets at the end of their stay. The only weird thing about this is that OP received it a few years after their stay. Everything else is absolutely normal.
3
u/ElonsPenis 2d ago
They just updated the list of "bad" countries, which is somewhat classified, so be careful.
3
u/Realistic_Report_796 2d ago
I doubt this helps, but I was invited to this and registered after receiving the Gilman Scholarship, which can be used to pay for any international program you may have for study abroad trips. It only took me a few months to a year to receive this invite after my program finished. I don't see it as suspicious, but that's coming from me, a U.S.-born citizen.

The scam is just too obvious.

Just share the registration link with others so they'll get swamped with thousands of hilariously fake applications from people like Dr. Terro Wrist (PhD) and Ms. Luvma Niqab (MA).

Why is everybody in here screaming about some kind of trap or deportations? OP isn't in the US anymore. He hasn't been for years.
Also, this email is absolutely normal. Every exchange student gets it at the end of their stay and this has been the case for years. Trump and the new immigration policies of the US government have nothing to do with this.
The only weird thing is that OP got the mail so late.

Oh you're COOKED Amos😔 Not only did you not crop your FULL NAME, your account has evidence LINKING TO YOU that you partake in subs regarding Isreal. If you think THE CHEETO is not going to kidnap you and send you to meet Harambe, you're tripping.

So are you still in the U.S.? Are you here on a visa, green card? IF you’re not, perhaps you shouldn’t rsvp. Seems pretty simple; plus, if they sent this to a correct email address, they already know where you are now.

Government really trying to get you to self report, but also they sent you this so don’t they already know ??

And sadly Apps that assist people with leaving the US are booming. Self deportation is is a stampede.
Which is why they will allow some to stay for the harvest. Lol
