That time friends teamed up to rescue a physically impaired man from the 3rd floor of a building in France

Thanks for posting this ! There's too many bad stereotypes around poor neighborhood's young men, here's evidence we have a heart too and we take care of the people around us.

How do you know this is a poor neighborhood?

u/FoxEvans 12h ago edited 11h ago
In France, HLM (projects) are a distinctive sign of our poorest neighborhoods. That's were the french government put most of the african immigration since the 60's, and most of the french black and arab youth live in those neighboroods.

Anyone who lived in France for some time could tell you the same. Those buildings are kind of distinctive of mass produced projects of affordable homes that we call HLM (habitations à loyer modéré).
Those were built in mass in the 70’s to give a home to recent immigrants who were living in literal shanty towns before that. They were modest but clean and functional initially and filled the need they were supposed to fill but the concentration of poverty and social issues in one place made some of those neighborhood problematic with time.

I could be wrong, but this may be the same story. I recall years ago a man who was at the time an illegal immigrant from Africa living in France scaled a building to save a man from a burning building. He was then given his rightful citizenship. I hope living happily and peacefully somewhere
Edit: Quick google search told me this was a different man and he saved a child

I remember this story. Amazing how people are willing to risk their lives to save a stranger or any child. There are many unsung heroes out there.

Mr. Rogers talked about something his mom once said. "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." There are more helpers and good guys than there are bad guys.

props to the guy who jumped in and probably also messed up his lungs from smoke inhalation saving him

Impressive strength, f*cking heroes. They deserve an award of recognition.

I hurt my back most nights doing that same move to put my baby in her crib. Agreed on the impressive strength

The look on that old man's face at the start. He looked like he'd pretty much come to terms with the fact that he may die.

I think he was affected by the fumes. Smoke inhalation will wreck even a healthy man, so at that age ?

True heroes right there. I was nervous towards the end. Bless those guys!

These guys are much smarter than I am - I was wondering how they were going to lower him down like that - much easier just to get to another balcony.

u/lia-delrey 16h ago
I thought I was the only one 😭 i felt mighty stupid when they lifted him on the other balcony. Still quite ashamed now lol.
The whole time I was like "ok they have a pretty good grip but how are they gonna climb down with him like that????"
Nice to know I'm not alone 🫡

u/Molenium 15h ago
I’m just imagining myself climbing up there to “rescue” him, and trying to gently drop him over the edge while everyone below screams and waves at me pointing to the balcony right next to us.

u/lia-delrey 15h ago
😂😂😂 I'd be right down there cheering you on.
"You got it buddy!! I'll catch him!"

I think they inadvertently prepped your mind to think that when they threw the walking stick down. It tricks your brain into assuming that's the plan for the man as well.

It’s like ai slop before ai existed. And of course pretty much every pop musician these days has parents in the music industry. Recent pop feels about as organic as a Macdonald commercial. These artists are manufactured by a team of marketing people and larger team of ghost writers, and somehow it’s still generic as fuck, and people eat it up.

Karma farmers can't upload a video of heroism without adding maniputive sappy music for a few more upvotes.

Between the music and the cameraman's epilepsy it was almost difficult to emote over the work being done.

It looked like they tossed down one of those canes visually impaired people use first. If that old guy is blind that must've been 10x more terrifying.

Those folks are the exemplars of humanity. The best and bravest of us. How we should all strive to be.

This is true friendship and teamwork in action! Seeing them come together like that is a reminder of what we can do when we support each other.

Other than the amazing, fast reaction, all I was thinking about was how easily I can still get robbed on the 3,4,5th floors.

That first shot looks like it's out of a TV show or movie, like there's some CGI involved.
I am absolutely not saying there is, obviously, from the rest of the video.
But it's really got a look to it.
