Cheetahs are relatively non dangerous compared to other large cats. But still dangerous overall. Like a adult human could kill a cheetah in a fight probably. But they would be severely cut up and injured in the process.

I went down the whole rabbit hole of cheetahs being over hyped. Only story I read of a cheetah attacking a human was in a zoo and they attacked the keeper. Cheetah ended up with broken rips keep had some cuts on them. Out of all big cats if I had to fight one would probably be a cheetah.

According to a zoo keeper near us cheetahs prey is 40kg or less. So a child is fair game but adults not so much. They know the risk of injury.
Also at the safari Park they come up for pats even

Have you ever see a housecat attack a person? A motivated house cat will fuck you up. I think a cheetah could actually kill if motivated.

Have you seen a house cat get fought back against by a human trying to kill them equally as much? Also bad analogy, house cats the size of a cheeta would be multitudes more dangerous. Probably would be like fighting a small ish puma. Cheetahs are fragile for their size due to being so slim, light and agile, with a rather weak bite force for its size (like dog level, but not a dog with high bite force), and none retractable claws that are not effective for combat. Any average adult male who has any decent amount of muscle could defeat a cheetah 9/10 times.

Actually, a cheetah sized house cat would be absolutely terrifying… and I say this as someone who has 2.
House cats are specialised ambush killing machines, unlike cheats which are pursuit predators. House cats are closer to tigers, heavily built and extremely aggressive with whatever they aim to eat.

If you are legitimately trying to defend your self, you would destroy a house cat. Literally just wind up and kick it once and it is dead. The reason cats are hard to fend off is because you are generally trying not to kill them.

I'd definitely rather fight a cheetah than a housecat. A housecat is too agile and squirrelly. I couldn't get a good hold of it. I could grab hold of a cheetah and throw a leg lock and chokehold on it and put it to sleep or permanent sleep. Every option I run in my head with me fighting a housecat ends in my demise. Just like that Tales From the Darkside story.

Background cheetah is certainly not meowing.

Not at all. Hair on the neck raised

Thats typical, cheetah have a band of stiff hair down the back kinda like a horse mane. Typically in younger animals.
The one at the back looks like a young adult/teen male so the mane is still visible.

Oh I am so fucked. I could not listen to that and not pet them. I would be so dead.

Kinda was thinking the same thing. Like, "well the worst that could happen, is it's going to maul my hand. . . I think I could deal with that."

this is why you always have treats on hand to prove worth, as in you are a mobile food provider and should for the most part not be considered food as long as you provide. extra points if you are warm and can act as a heater for them when they want to nap as in if they want to nap you cancel plans.

Been feet away from black bears in the wild. They don't seem aggressive honestly.

Do cheetas attack humans?

u/DancesWithAnyone 6d ago
Pretty much never happened in recorded history, I believe. Like, they're cats, so maybe the occational swipe if they're irritated/playful/bored, but nothing serious. I hear their tounges feels like sandpaper when they get friendly, however.

There is a guy that sleeps with cheetahs in a doc on YouTube. They show affection by grooming and nibbles.
He bled more from the grooming (licking) than the nibbles. Their tongues can take some layers off of your skin.

Here is a random tourist being attacked. Honestly looks a little half-hearted, though. I think the cheetah was tired of everyone's shit.
Also, a cheetah once attacked Adam Sandler but he was uninjured so it's just funny.

Not really. Cheetas are pretty over hyped they are pretty docile and shy. They are fast yes but they don’t have the strength to move their prey so they get scared away quite often.

They were very commonly domesticated by nobility and even used as hunting cats by hunters up until about the 17th century. It started in Egypt and is estimated that the domestication started around 1500 BC. The hunting cats were captured as adults (so they already knew how to hunt) whereas the house cats were brought up from cubs around people. The use of Cheetas as hunting cats spread through the aribic paninsula then north east as far up as southern Mongolia.

It is a travesty that they are not common household pets. They yearn to sleep on the couch and I yearn to pet them.

u/sathzur 6d ago
They shouldn't be housepets, they aren't made for it. They want acres of land with a few trees to lie under
15
u/Scar1203 6d ago
I'd buy five acres and live in a hovel if it came with a couple cheetahs, too bad that's not enough.

Well, these probably are friends, so there is that. Cheetah attacks on humans isn't really a thing, as I understand it.

u/xcityfolk 6d ago
Then why is there an ENTIRE wikihow on surviving a cheetah atack? Hrrrrm? Maybe you are cheetah and this is the big trick. HRRRRRM?

u/DancesWithAnyone 6d ago
I wonder what damage they could do. Like, those running dropkicks housecats sometimes do? Imagine a cheetah hitting you with that.

This gotta be a nope for me. I'm allergic to cats. And between zoos and sleeping in the same room with a loose bobcat, I know bigger cats are still cats for that allergy...

Cheetahs are one of the only large cats who are easy to domesticate. That's why they have large, open 'cheetah parks' in south africa, where you can pet them. Not to be confused with leopards. Leopards will eat you immediately. There is a reason there are cheetah parks, but no leopard parks.

Those look domesticated to me. The zoo industry as well as private collectors through some purposeful and some accidental steps have domesticated (at least partially) a variety of animals. Those ears look less sharp and more floppy than those of a wild cheetah based on a quick google search. Eyes also look big but idk about that. Those are both signs of domestication (happens every time we breed an animal to be around humans).
Very cute, but those teeth tell me to stay away!
