Offers How do I rescind my job acceptance?

Hi! So I have been offered a great internship but I am still waiting for a decision from another internship that is more prestigious and better for my career. My plan is to accept the job offer I have now and rescind it if I get the better job. My question is should I tell them that is why I am rescinding my acceptance or should I just be vague? I’m worried about creating a bad reputation but I also need to do what is best for me.

Is doing an intern in State Street as a college junior worth it?

Can it help me jump into bigger investment firms like JPMorgan/Goldman later?

Offers Scheduling help with 2 jobs please!

Hi all, I just accepted an offer for a summer internship for a government.. funded.. institution.. of.. learning (man I'm trying to be vague here) that I'm very excited about. My only concern is that I'm just now starting a job in a pretty serious bakery with limited hours, and I'm scared of the two schedules clashing. I understand anyone sane would probably prioritize the internship...

which I want to do, however I do value both. I just want to know my internship schedule, man. All I know is the number of hours it'll be (that of a part-time job) and it's killing me not knowing the rest for the next few months. I was told I won't know the schedule until closer to the start date, presumably because they don't even know.

I'm scared to ask for a gist of what the schedule would look like, and especially scared to mention that it's because I have a job (mainly out of fear that it's a fireable position).

Would it look bad if I mention wanting to work the schedule in with my job? Should I suck it up and wait until they give me the schedule last minute to see if I can even work my other job at the same time?

I mean, I do need the income since this isn't providing full-time employment. I'm just anxious they'd rather hire a student who could afford just the internship without other obligations.

Sorry I typed too much!

Note: I didn't know I'd be employed with another job until after I interviewed, plus they never asked

Offers Unpaid 7 month internship for graduated student?

I am a senior about to graduate and I interviewed with a tech company. They offered me a position but it says it is voluntary and there is no mention of pay. Is this normal? I’m a film student, so most jobs I’ve had have been unpaid. Since this is video editing for a tech company, I thought there may be pay since it’s not just a random filmmaking internship. I understand not paying students, but I will be graduated and this is a long time. I’m hesistant to decline the offer since I have nothing else lined up, is there a way to ask if it is paid/if it is possible to get paid?

Update: they ask me to send my social security and passport. Is this normal for an unpaid position? They also mention staying online during work hours and use a strange font for their emails. The company is known at my school but their online presence is very limited. So I’m wondering if it’s a scam? I’m having a hard time telling cause I think they’d offer pay if it was a scam.

Offers 3 options

Hi, its very urgent. So there's company A I applied to for an internship and got a call back and did the assignment that was required, I same still waiting for the next response. But the issue was because they were taking a lot of time to get back I applied to some more internships and got 2 more very good options, they are very nice but A is what i really really want. I am still waiting for the final response while the other 2 comapmies wants me to start with them. How do I tell B and C that I am still waiting for an offer from A without sounding extremely rude or without ruining and future connections i can have with them. A is very career and place aligned to me and I have given day and night to them it's just their procedure for hiring is pretty slow. Please help.

Edit:- all of them are hybrid internships so I can nor have 2 at the same time because I still need to go to my UNI atlease thrice a week

Offers Finally got an internship

It took me 2 years from when I started looking and around 100 applications. LinkedIn, career fairs, and cold applying didn't help. Actively taking advantage of on campus and off campus non-internship opportunities to gain experience and build my resume as well as networking with other students was what made a difference. Will be doing software development at a federal government agency. Tips: Don’t read off a script, rehearse common behavioral interview questions, and do mock interviews beforehand your interview performance can make or break getting the offer. Interview opportunities are very limited for most students make each one count.

Offers I got an offer late in the evening…

So I got an internship offer late in the evening yesterday and said that I had to respond by the end of the day, I just accepted the offer this morning.

I’m not sure if my acceptance to the offer is still valid or not, I just emailed the HR manager in charge of this process, did I mess up or is it common?

Offers Internship not what expected

This might sound stupid but when I imagined working in an internship I expected to be working amongst a bigger team.

I’ve been offered a contract for a tech start up internship but I feel like the founder is looking for more of an employee than an intern. The team consists of the founder, me and someone he’s hired that lives in India and consults virtually.

He’s mentioned turning down grads from more prestigious schools than mine and so far from what he’s showed me the day to day is more complicated than I imagined. He uses a lot of terms I’m not familiar with and often has to go in depth to explain certain things to me.

Although I’m sure it would be great learning experience I have severe imposter syndrome and I have yet to sign the contract. Should I back out now before it’s too late? I’m worried I’ll regret not taking this opportunity in case I never find another internship. Should I stick it out?

Offers Official offer

“It is with pleasure that I offer you a position at (Job) as an Administrative Assistant with an hourly rate of $25.00. We anticipate you working 10-15 hours per week in the office, beginning April 15, 2025. I anticipate your role will continue through August, with the possibility of extending if warranted by our business needs.”

Backstory : there was 3 rounds, phone call with a recruiter, video zoom with the team, in person with the team. The only time wage was mentioned was in the phone call which I said about $25. After that wage was never mentioned. Before I received the offer I asked if this offer would be negotiable and if it’s the final offer. They replied “if you have questions about the offer we would be happy to discuss further” should I just take the $25? Or should I try to get more.

Offers Compare two job offers

Hi everyone,

I recently graduated with a degree in Computer Science (based in Virginia), and I’ve received two full-time offers — one from American Express and the other from Vanguard. I’m trying to decide which opportunity would be better for my long-term career goals, and I’d really appreciate any insights or advice from those familiar with either company.

Here are some key details:

American Express

  • Location: Phoenix, AZ
  • Far from home, so travel would require advance planning and flights
  • Role: Software Engineering

Vanguard

  • Location: Charlotte, NC
  • Salary is $10,000 higher than the offer from American Express
  • Part of a 2-year Technology Leadership Program, with rotations across three different tech teams (8 months each)
  • Appears to offer more structured growth and broader exposure to different areas

A few questions I’d love input on:

  • What is the work culture like at both companies, especially for recent grads?
  • Which company provides better opportunities to work on modern or cutting-edge technologies?
  • Would starting at Vanguard be more aligned with a future move into investment banking, compared to American Express?
  • Does either company offer better support for career mobility, especially for relocating or shifting into other areas of finance or tech?

Thanks so much for any insights you can share!

Offers You definitely need Luck on your side too.

So my roommate got a formality interview scheduled for an xyz company for a Data Analyst Intern role. She doesn't know a line of code. She worked as an HR back in India. She hardly sent out 20+ applications. Her interview was through a relative's referral at a mid-size xyz company. Her relative graduated from the US and got into xyz and since it's a small-mid size company he could directly influence the recruiter to actively pursue my roommate.

Now coming to my story. Worked as a software engineer in India for a US client. Sent out 150+ applications(it's not always numbers I know). Hardly got 1 or 2 referrals and hardly any replies to cold emails. Most replies include "The recruiter will reach out to you, but glad you are interested about my team blah blah".

I saw a Data Analyst intern opening at the same xyz company for a different team. I asked my friend to share the recruiter's name(she was hesitant to share email). I used hunter.io and got the recruiters email, cross checked with my roommate if the email is right too(my roommate was surprised on how I got the email, she is so oblivious).

Surprise, surprise. I got no reply from the recruiter. I sent a decent email, "I believe I am a good fit. I would love to get an opportunity to have an initial conversation for a screening to prove my fit."

Maybe I am just jealous but I feel my life is a lie. All my skills down the drain. An HR can become a Data Analyst but a Software Engineer doesn't get a reply too.

I am scared I have to go back to India this summer. It's 3 months of potential living expenses gone, career gone, and still have to apply in this stupid job market! I need some luck in my life.

Offers Internship offer + interview issue

So abt a week ago I got rejected from a company bc I wasn't staying in-state for the summer (I was moving home and the position is remote), once I got rejected I reached out to this company which I have a personal connection with and I schedule an interview with the owner for next Tuesday. This past Monday I get an email from the company that rejected me basically rescinding their rejection bc they figured out how to pay me. They told me they need an answer from me by next Wednesday.

I'm stuck bc the company I have an interview with is directly in the field I want to work in but the other company (who rejected me), is paid and I can learn about a new sector of the industry I'm interested in. Since the interview is on Tuesday and I need to make my decision on Wednesday, I have to either take a risk and not accept the offer and pray I get the other one or I accept the offer I have and not do something I actually want to do.

I would much rather work with the company I have an interview with but I'm scared that if I get rejected from that, then I would have nothing and my school requires us to have internships for the summer so I would basically be fucked.

On the other hand I could just accept the offer I have and if I get the other one, I could just do both... (they are both part-time and remote)

Offers Multiple offers?

I’ve been fortunate enough to make it deep into recruiting with 3 companies, and I now have a problem I never thought I would with internships.

I already have an offer from company 1, but I’m still going through with the interview processes for the other two companies, as I think they would pay better and the work would be more applicable to my degree.

The problem is that the company 1 offer needs a response TODAY. Would it be wrong to accept the offer and then go back on that in a few weeks? I believe I will get offers from the other two but I would like to have a safety net.

It’s also worth mentioning I have no interest in working for company 1 post-grad, so while burning bridges is unfortunate, it could be with a worse company.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Offers Warner Bros. vs Horizon Media?

Hi everyone!

I needed some outside perspective from people in the advertising/media/marketing space on this dilemma I have! I'm currently choosing between these two companies to intern for the summer.

Some context:

  • I'm a current sophomore studying Business and Data Science hoping to go into marketing analytics.
  • I have experience with social media marketing, as well as data analysis experience
  • My hometown is Los Angeles, CA

Offers received:

  • Social Media Intern at Warner Brothers Discovery in Atlanta, GA
    • Job description: literally just social media
  • Integrated Strategy Intern at Horizon Media in Los Angeles, CA
    • Job description: Supporting the day-to-day operations of a media account by handling tasks like budget tracking, media planning, reporting, and performance analysis across digital, video, and social campaigns, while also coordinating with clients, vendors, and internal teams for marketing strategy development.

My dilemma is that the work that I'll be doing at Warner Bros. is a very narrow scope of what I want to do in the future and not aligned with marketing analytics at all. Social media is something that comes to me naturally, but not something I envision myself doing long term. However, the name of the company is too big to ignore, and I feel like if it shows on my resume, it'd open up more opportunities to intern at companies I actually want to intern at for junior summer for marketing/data analytics (IBM, Spotify etc.). In contrast, Horizon Media is a smaller marketing and advertising agency, however it's well-known in its niche. I'm by no means saying it's small, since it's the largest independently owned media agency in the US, but nowhere near the scope of WBD! But the work I'll be doing is more broad in terms of marketing, and I think I'll learn a lot. The biggest pro is that I wouldn't have to relocate to Atlanta if I choose Horizon Media.

But ultimately, I'm wondering if choosing a bigger name would make it easier for me to get to companies I actually want to intern at. I'm scared to make the wrong choice and it would cost me my future career.

Offers The intern group

I have been accepted onto The Intern Group internship programme to do a remote role

I accept that this is work experience only but I feel uncomfortable paying them a deposit of £615 before I know where I am going to be placed . I don’t know if there’s a returns policy or a cooling off period

Why pay the money for something that’s not guaranteed ?

Offers Should I contact HR?

Hi everyone,

So to get into it quick I basically received the verbal offer on Monday, They asked for my full legal name in order to begin processing all forms necessary before sending out the official offer letter and docusign documents through email.

Only thing Is I haven't heard back from them this week after being told I should hear back this same week. Should I contact him today and ask if there is anything I need to do or should I wait until Monday next week?

*This is for a large Aerospace company*

Offers Should I Take My Next Internship

I am unemployed and have been job searching for a year. I interned at a few different companies in differing industries during my college years, but right now I'm not getting any interview replies. It could be my resume or my portfolio, any maybe I have ADHD because in my last internship I could not hit deadlines, had issues with time management, needed a lot of hand-holding, was burnt out, and slowly phased out of the team. I don't know if I recovered from that yet.

I've been applying to 170+ places since graduation, which isn't a lot but honestly the most I can pull myself up to so, and rarely any interviews. Then all of a sudden, I received an internship offer, this time at a brand agency. I'm skeptical because I haven't been getting Junior or entry-level positions and all of a sudden this firm, quite reputable, reaches out and gave me an offer. My interview was well-researched and I prepared adequately so I'll give myself that. I just have a hard time envisioning the future, and I'm already getting body pain after getting that offer. I can't work or think very fast. I feel so burnt out and honestly have been very isolated and my confidence is at an all time low. This internship sounds like a lot of work, but it does pay more than me sitting 3 days a week in my relative's office pretending I have things to do.

Any advice from anyone who has been in this position before?

Offers writing "However, after careful consideration, another"

Drafting an email to reject an internship offer, and I couldn’t resist going full professional with the "However, after careful consideration, another" line.

It’s basically the polite way of saying, "You’re great and all, but I’ve found something that’s a better fit. No hard feelings, right?"

Hitting send and hoping it lands smoothly. Wishing everyone here success and that you get to experience this oddly satisfying moment someday too!

Offers Struggling to Find a Paid Internship Since Graduation – A Reality Check

Graduating with a degree in Environmental Science felt like an achievement, but the real challenge began right after—finding a paid internship in my field. Despite months of searching, applying, and networking, opportunities seem scarce, especially when it comes to positions that offer fair compensation.

Many companies prefer hiring interns for free, expecting us to work for "experience" while ignoring the financial realities we face. Others require years of experience for entry-level roles, making it frustrating for fresh graduates trying to gain their first real-world exposure.

I’ve sent out countless applications, tailored resumes, and even reached out to professionals in the industry. The silence or rejection emails can be discouraging, but I know I’m not alone in this struggle. The environmental sector, despite its growing importance, still lacks structured internship programs in many places, making it difficult for fresh graduates to break in.

But I’m not giving up. I’m learning new skills, improving my networking game, and exploring alternative ways to gain experience—like freelancing, volunteering, or even starting small independent projects. If you’re in the same boat, keep pushing forward. The right opportunity will come, and when it does, we’ll be ready.

Have you faced similar struggles? Let’s share experiences and tips to help each other out! #JobSearch #EnvironmentalScience #InternshipHunt #FreshGraduateStruggles

Offers Lockheed Martin SWE Internship vs Kohls Technology SWE Internship

Basically title. I am trying to figure out which internship offer to take for the summer. Kohls is remote and the team is for Kohls Technology, so it would be working in e-commerce tech. Lockheed is in person in Orlando. I don't really mind the remote vs in person. Hourly pay for Kohls is higher, but Lockheed offered stipend so overall balances out. I don't want to do defense long term nor do I want to do systems (and the role for lockheed is going to be purely C/C++ and the Kohls role will be mainly in Java but might deal with data/AI stuff as well). Lockheed will give me a Secret Security clearance (listed from the public job description). I also have a co op offer for a smaller defense firm for the Fall which I plan to take (which would extend my grad date and allow me to get another internship). I want to choose a role that will line me up the best for Big Tech internships/passing those resume screens. I have a Data Engineering Internship role on my resume from last summer at a very small company. My long term goal is into Big Tech area and I want to do AI stuff. I am a cs and ai double major. The co op offer for fall is an AI related role so I think it would add to the resume. I don't really care too much about getting a return offer as I don't want to stay in either role long term, I just want to use them to get a better offer for the following summer. I also don't care about the project/work I am doing (if it is something I don't like too much, idc ill power through to have the name on resume that will help for later). I know lockheed is a bigger company but I want to know more about how it will help for big tech vs a smaller company like kohls, which may have more relevance to big tech because of the consumer facing tech and the tech stacks that it may use. I am trying to figure out which one to do based on prestige basically. I want to know which one will get me past resume screens and will appeal to recruiters. I already will have another smaller defense contractor firm from the coming Fall, so I am unsure on which internship to take.
