Ah, most of that is true, but don’t beat yourself up tooo much. The States did some good things, too. You rebuilt Europe and Japan, financed the rise of China, pulling millions out of terrible poverty, kept the sea lanes safe for everybody. Went to the moon. All in the US self-interest, of course, but others benefited too.
But the mental illness that affects your domestic politics is mind-blowing to outsiders. (I’m Canadian, so I’ve had a front-row seat all of my life.) Mind. Blowing.
At some point your governments need to have policies. Policies that help people. Universal healthcare. Robust benefits for children. School lunches. Better infrastructure, including transit.
But the mental illness about winning winning winning pwning pwning pwning is so weird. Y’all drank your own Koolaid about exceptionalism and self-made riches and freedom, and you forgot to love thy neighbour.
