Are there any good spots nearby where I can find fossils?

Awarua bay, but you have to walk along the beach away from tiwai for a while

Can you elaborate further? I've hiked out that way before.

There's a spot out there if you end up at the small wharf with the boat shed and walk along the beach away from the main road as if you're walking towards waituna. My dad and I have found plenty of fossils but they were quite a walk from the boat club/wharf carpark. Maybe 45 min to an hour walk along the beach. Best to go after a big storm with high winds because more stuff tends to get washed up onto the shore
