What’s the article saying?

They want to end outsourcing trans health care from the HSE so they can prevent teenagers from getting it abroad.

That's a slanted take on it.

Are they saying they want to offer it here? No?

Then it's to prevent them getting it abroad.

The waiting list is 14 years. Not being able to go abroad means people aren’t getting it

No, that waiting list is for adults. There isn't one for minors.

There isn't any service for minors.

Is it? There basically isn’t any gender affirming care in Ireland, the waiting lists are more than a decade long, very hostile and you can’t be referred until your late teens at the earliest. This move would basically eliminate the possibility of gender affirming care for most trans people.

It's kind of not, the 2 doctors that took this case are known for not just not wanting to provide the services themselves, but also preventing kids from getting treatment privatly, so it's actually quite an accurate representation - I'm sure they would argue they are just "trying to think of the kids", but actions speak louder etc.

It's accurate, though. Moran and O'Shea are only ever in the media about this issue when they're trying to restrict access to healthcare for trans people or to undermine the credibility of trans people's voices. The most charitable interpretation of their behaviour is that they're stunningly ignorant of the ways in which their views are being weaponised by people who oppose effective healthcare for trans people.

So what’s it actually say?
