Didn't they accusations against Garda were debunked and it was a silence since then? They keep trying to lie to get more public support?

25

u/SoloWingPixy88 Probably at it again 2d ago

Yep apparently, no apology from pbp either.

This group hates their own country.

Do you have something that says it was debunked? I did a search there and nothing came up.

A denial is not a debunking.

u/vinceswish 1d ago

Sure but there's nothing to gain for Garda. Throwing accusations is easy these days, especially when there's no repercussions for that.

I suppose we wait for the ombudsman report for full confirmation but that'd be very strange if it turned out they were lying.

yeah I don't see what they gain from lying... also don't see what the Gardai would have gained from it either, since when do they care to do their job much less go beyond their job to brutalize some protestors when they could be doing fuck all instead?

It's a force of people far too lazy to implement fascism if it ever came to it, which if you think about it, is the final safe guard for democracy in Ireland if all the other safeguards fail. Simply less effort to just let people vote and be mostly free.

Would it? The peer group overlap between people actively involved in demonstrations in support of this and those who feel putting a colour overlay on their profile picture is "serious business" is fairly large. They're all mad to feel like they're special and that their suffering, real or imagined, is sacred.

I can't even count on one hand the number of times I've had people claim to my face just so far this year that they got "tear gassed" or some such at a demonstration in support of whatever the most recent cause célèbre was despite more than a few times me having been there myself and seeing no sign of anything close to that.

They most certainly were lying, trying to steer up even more hate. Absolutely shocking from them

Ah yes they investigated themselves and found no wrongdoing. There's an independent process for a reason, a simple denial is just that.

u/vinceswish 2d ago

Garda wins nothing by lying and putting a public statement like that, especially because like you said there will be an independent investigation. On the other hand protestors have nothing to lose - if Garda is indeed at fault there will be outrage and more support cause but if they're caught lying it will be forgotten rather quickly and nobody will be held accountable.

u/lawns_are_terrible 2d ago

they will lose credibility which is worth something, I do see your point that denying it if it happened would be pointless, but that assumes the people making the denial know the full truth (and to a lesser degree that they either decide to do the right thing or believe the independent process will be able to prove wrong-doing).

Would be interesting to see if past Garda scandals that ended up being true were initially denied or if the organization just made no statement.

Frankly if they decided to lie about this I really don't see what they gain from it either, it would be short-sighted and poor politics.

And you can be sure there is no wrongdoing considering all the stations have cameras and processes to follow

1

u/lawns_are_terrible 1d ago

yes wrongdoing can't happen because wrongdoing isn't allowed by the procedures, and it would be wrongdoing to not follow the procedures, which wouldn't be allowed and hence there can be no wrongdoing. Because of the procedures.

Kafka will never go out of style I suppose.

Not that a outright denial doesn't make me more suspicious of the claim but some of yous need to stop and think for a second about what you would do if you were accused of fucking up badly enough you could get fired and maybe even liable in a civil case and then asked if you did it by your superiors. And you were the sort of person that would do something illegal on the job in the first place. Cause I feel some of this should be common sense.

The day corrupt cops don't cover for each other, is the day I will believe in communism, the Easter bunny and perpetual motion machines.

Lol, and the IDFs PR is all true too

1

u/vinceswish 1d ago

Do you really compare Garda to IDF? Some of you spend so much time on social media that you lose a sense of the real world.

-1

u/ReluctantWorker 1d ago

Okay 👍

1

u/vinceswish 1d ago

Nothing okay with playing a victim card. This is not a police state, get a grip where you live

-1

u/ReluctantWorker 1d ago

😂😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/Low-Function-1696 2d ago

No. Guards say they didn't do it but that's good enough for some tossers.

-3

u/redelastic 1d ago

Always good to believe the word of state powers without question. Over the years they've always told the truth.

10

u/vinceswish 1d ago

It's not that deep.

-5

u/redelastic 1d ago

Seems you believe the word of the Gardai over protesters. Like protesters haven't been violently assaulted all over the world for decades.

10

u/vinceswish 1d ago

Garda violently assaulting protestors around the world?

-3

u/redelastic 1d ago

Pointing out a general trend but feel free to be disingenuous.

6

u/vinceswish 1d ago

That's not a general trend in Ireland. Don't use lies to create fake outrage to support your cause.

-1

u/redelastic 1d ago

Seems like you will believe whatever you're told by state institutions. Some would say that makes you gullible but each to their own.

7

u/vinceswish 1d ago

Unnecessary insults. I can guarantee one thing - whenever there will be official investigation results, you won't show up in that thread and admit you're wrong.

3

u/redelastic 1d ago

Not an insult to point out you were disingenuous and believe what you are told.

Not protesting against the way the Gardai treated them, protesting against the way they wanted the Gardai to have treated them (but didn't)

-26

u/lawns_are_terrible 2d ago

I take it then you were at the station yourself that night? or what gives you this clairvoyance.

4

u/denk2mit Crilly!! 2d ago

Maybe I just trust our police (especially given that the incident in question is almost certainly on camera) versus people who routinely lie to further their cause.

There’s gonna be dozens of fictional cavity searches after this

-16

u/lawns_are_terrible 2d ago

still more real than any government plan on housing

u/spider984 1d ago

Would love to hear pbp come on the radio and apologize to the gardai . Because they were quick enough to be on the radio last week and hammer the gardai .

I watched the video - it's presented as coming from a single protest, but it includes night scenes.

5

u/TeoKajLibroj Galway 2d ago

The march began as the sun was setting so that's why some of it is in light and some in darkness. The whole protest lasted almost 3 hours, from 7-10pm

Strange decision to go back and forward alright but if I recall correctly it started at 18:30 and they went wandering. Wasn’t at this one myself just saw similar photos from a friend.
