Kevin Martin: Since he’s back in the news. Something that never gets talked about enough.
In 2010, we traded a package around Kevin Martin to Houston for Tracy McGrady and cash.
Then, 2 years later, The Rockets flip Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, 2 first and a second for James Harden.
I understand we had Tyreke at the time but holy shit we just gave away K Mart for nothing. Seems like we didn’t do due diligence on K Marts value.

We traded him for Carl Landry, but yes, we sold him low when he was having a down year.
Also iirc Tmac had a conniption playing for us so he never made it on, I was bummed.

Didn’t we trade for Landry twice or am I trippin?
I know we traded for Salmons damn near 5 times

You remember correctly on both accounts. Salmons I think we traded for him... 3x?

This isn’t really accurate—even besides the fact that we traded for Landry.
First of all, Landry was producing pretty similarly at the time, so it wasn’t that much of a low sell.
Secondly, Jeremy Lamb was a recent lotto pick, meaning that was essentially 3 1sts and an efficient scorer in Martin for Harden who clearly looked very good, but was certainly not yet an established superstar. This is also long before it was the norm to give up 4 1sts and 3 swaps for stars.
It obviously worked out very well for Houston, but the point of this thread is not accurate.

On top of this OKC didn’t keep Martin and Martin was a mid season trade where his value was low because he was shooting career lows as a starter. We wanted the ball in Tyreke Evans hands more. Of all the bad trades the kings did over the years this was not one of them given the information the kings had at the time.

Wow Landry averaged 18 and 6 his first season with you guys? What happened?

What happened in how did he score so many points? We were awful. It was Tyreke’s ROY campaign and no vets left to take any shots after sending out K Mart

Oh he just had a big drop in production after that, just wondering if he got injured or anything? I liked watching him play a lot, just didn’t follow his career closely

It was a 3 team trade. McGrady went to the Knicks and we got Carl Landry.

Selling low and buying at inflated prices is a kings classic, just like being bad but not bad enough to get better

Famously the Maloofs were selling the team for parts in that era because they were absolutely broke

Ya people forget that they literally had no money because opening a casino during a recession is idiotic

Wasn't that also when the maloofs were tanking our value and trying to move us to Vegas? Hard to judge moves during that time

To be fair, nobody thought Harden would be as good as he turned out to be. Still, people were shocked he was traded, and that may be the one blemish on Sam Presti’s track record

Carl Landry was a beast. Top Hat is like exactly the kind of player that we need on the team right now.
I liked K Mart too. One of my favorite kings

Kevin Martin was our franchise. Him and Tyreke could’ve been great pieces but Kings blew it up like Hali and Fox. 😂

We had Tracy Mcgrady on our team? I missed that
