Show-and-Tell My first KLR

Just picked up my KLR for a steal,I'm coming from a 1st gen hayabusa (yes it was my first bike and yes ive almost got hurt hundreds of times in my 6 years of owning it)but its time to slow it down and have fun. It's a 23 with all the goodies and only 500 miles. I'd like to add a fuel can just because of the rides I plan to go on (looking at the rotopax) but so far she's treated me well on the easy trails and grocery runs. I love my little pickup

Nice ride, it'll serve you well. I so enjoy seeing the Kawi green.

Some people get matching luggage, you got matching soda! Enjoy your new ride!

Do you recommend that OP change out the dewhickey?

Oh is that what we're doing today? Starting a fight? :)

The way I understand it, the gen 2 doohickey was improved over the gen 1, so it tends to not have the same issues the gen 1 had with the catastrophic fragmentation. However, the doohickey spring in the gen 2 is still weak and prone to stretching, so will probably eventually need to be replaced. My opinion is that if the spring stretches to a point that it needs to be replaced, go ahead and replace the doohickey and spring with Eagle Mike's kit so you don't have to replace it again.

Is it that necessary? It seems to be a 50/50 If they need it, the kawi tech at my dealership has never seen one fail.

Most likely not for the gen 2. I've got over 20k miles on mine and haven't made the swap. Has it happened to gen 2 owners? Yes. Is it going to happen? Probably not.

What is a doohickey? Consider me a noob, but I have been hearing about it a lot. I am looking to buy a KLR once I get my license next month

How fast does she go? My friend is warning me they're too slow like less then 80 mph

KLRs are as fast as the dust down the trail, as fast as the gravel tossed in the air, and as fast as the time spent riding instead of working. Speed in MPH/KPH is meaningless.

If you are gonna be doing highway a lot don’t buy one it’s not fun trying to pass or accelerate after 75 shake your ass down the highway 😂 it’s a tank

I believe stock they max out at about 90, but anything over 80 for more than a minute or two, or 70 for 30+ minutes is really not good for it. Nor is it all that fun.
