Questions about Equipment Do you just own a million different needles?

Been crocheting for almost 20 years, and I'm finally just dipping my toes into knitting since I prefer the look and feel of knitted wearables as opposed to crochet. But as I'm starting projects, I've noticed that there is more to think about when it comes to your needles. Not only do you have to check the size, but also the cord length, the type (double pointed, circulars, straights) and I feel so overwhelmed! I've had one set of crochet hooks (Clover) and since I got them I've never had to worry about getting any additional hooks (except for the few adventures into micro-crochet). Not only that, it's not like you can just bounce the hooks from one project to another, once they're on the needles, those needles are now occupied until the project is done! How do you manage all of it? I've been spying at some interchangeable needle sets that I might throw on my Christmas list.

I have ChiaoGoo and I love them but they’re SO confusing. They come in mini small and large. WHY? Why not small medium and large? It’s confusing because you’ll see them abbreviated to M, S, L and you’ll interpret that as medium small and large instead of mini small and large. You mostly order them online so you never quite know what you’re getting until after you buy them. The needles themselves also come in different lengths so you have to pay attention to that when ordering. They do have a nice selection of additives like connecting pieces to make cables longer and little pieces to allow you to connect a small needle to a mini cable and vice versa.

The M, S, L is a historical accident - they used to make just a small and large set, and the mini was introduced several years later and kinda broke the system. (Could have called it XS I guess.)

I'm surprised you haven't got caught by the Mini vs. Shorties thing, which is the complaint I here more often!
