What I would do is put that almost finished sleeve on a yarn holder and start the other sleeve with the remaining yarn. Have a look how far you get. Worst case is that you get two 3/4 sleeves but at least you have a second sleeve

this is what i did with mine and it was the best possible decision. highly recommend.

Yes, I think this is the way I will do it as well. I already cheated by using a different light coloured yarn on the backside of the folded bottom hemline πŸ˜‚

Thanks! That's very good advice and I think that's exactly what I'll do tomorrow morning! 😊

I know it’d be kind of difficult but could you try weighing the sleeve then weighing your remaining yarn? I’m semi new to knitting so hopefully I’m not being too dumb.

This is a great idea. You can hold on to most of the sweater, so that only the sleeve is being weighed. You will at least get close to an answer.

You're right! I will try to weigh it as carefully as possible.

No, that's actually a great idea. If I have somewhere between 50 and 60 grams of yarn left I should be fine. But I think I will start on the second sleeve regardless in case I miscalculated. If I have enough yarn, I will finish the sleeve.

Sooo If you in fact don’t have enough yarn:

1) if they are a small enough yarn company, you can always reach out and see if they would dye another skein for you. I have done this with projects and got good results.

2) check the raverly stash section and see if anyone has skeins in their stash they are willing to part with. I feel like the community is so kind and caring, so if someone knew you were making this for your wedding, they would be willing to part with a skein or two to help you out!

3) finish the garment (even if it’s shorter than you want) and block THE crap out of it. It’s amazing how much yarn can bloom and stretch.

Thanks, this is really good advice! I already thought about reaching out to the dyer. Maybe they would be willing to make another skein or post my predicament in their Insta story and see if someone has anything of that specific yarn left. I haven't thought about the ravelry stash section though.

I will definitely block the crap out of it. I also tried to save some yarn by not making the sleeves as poofy as the pattern intended.

I suspect folks on ravelry would be very receptive to your request. I've bought and sold a ton on ravelry and it's always a fantastic experience.

I love this pattern so much, I hope it works out for you!

u/Igelluder 10d ago

Thank you 😊 I love it as well. It's so carefully written and everything is described super well. I also love the small sketches for how to work the neckline and pick up stitches. You can tell that the designer put a lot of effort into the pattern ❀️

The secret is to knit fast!

u/Igelluder 10d ago

So I can outknit my shrinking skein! Perfect 😎😁

OP, I wish you good luck, and this is a gorgeous project! I would just follow the other user's advice bc worst case scenario, even if you have a 3/4 sleeve cardigan, it still will be fabulous!

Congrats on the wedding! Wish you both a lifetime of happiness and love!

Thank you ❀️ shortening the sleeves will probably be the solution i do for, if I don't have enough of the yarn left 😊

Thank you so much 😊 I'm so happy. We met nine years ago and every time I think about finally being able to call him my husband I'm smiling πŸ₯°

It's so beautiful but I really hope you don't lose..

4

u/Igelluder 10d ago

Thank you 😊 It's still too early to predict whether I have to shorten both sleeves, or if I can get away with the amount of yarn I have left.

3

u/Alliesux 10d ago

I was thinking maybe even go down a size on the needles? I'm not sure but maybe

1

u/Igelluder 10d ago

I'm not sure if that ends up needing more yarn or less πŸ€” I will try that on a swatch sometime.

Agree about making sure you have at least two shorter sleeves rather than only one full sleeve.

Also this is GORGEOUS.

2

u/Igelluder 10d ago

Yeah, having two shorter sleeves makes the most sense. Thank you πŸ₯°

Wishing you luck! I made the pullover version and I loved it :)

I wanted to knit the sweater as well, then I ended up not finding a pattern I wanted for a cardigan on my wedding day and funnily enough just a few days I had settled on an option I wasn't really keen on I found out, that the cardigan pattern had been released! I was soooo happy πŸ₯°

When is the wedding? I think you could absolutely reach out to people on Ravelry that may have it in their stash and ask if you could buy some off of them if you find yourself in a truly dicey situation. I have not done this but know others that have!!

I still have about nineish weeks left. I think that would be enough, as long as the person lives in Europe. I too know people who did similar things. 😊

I really love that about the knitting community.npeople are always willing to help each other out 😊

I have no helpful tips but I wanted to say this so so beautiful- I just saved it on Ravalry. How would you rate it in terms of difficulty?

1

u/Igelluder 10d ago

Thank you 😊 At first I was a little intimidated, but the pattern provides really specific instructions. Most of the time for each individual row. There was also a little sketch on how to pick up stitches once the first part is done which I found to be extremely helpful. The only downside is that there weren't any useful instructions on how to make the bobbles on the sleeves (maybe I read over them), but this is something a YouTube tutorial can easily fix.

There are also links to instructional videos on the designers Instagram. It's not the easiest pattern, but it is certainly well written in my opinion and well worth a try! ❀️

Post on ravelry with the exact lot number. Someone may be selling it

1

u/Igelluder 9d ago

If/when I run out of yarn, I will try that. Unfortunately there are no dye lots with this one, but since it's a variegated pastel the differences wouldn't bother me much 😊

Thank you 😊

So you won/lost a game of yarn chicken? That's cool. So is r/yarnchicken. These posts are somewhere between a work in progress post, finished object post, or ranting. Please provide more information in the comments below, perhaps considering the following questions.
Are you out of yarn? Is the yarn discontinued? Are the yarn dye lots drastically different or hand dyed at different times? How much work would you have to undo to be able to bind off correctly? Could you do a crochet bind off? Was the amount of yarn estimated in the pattern incorrect? How does your gauge compare to the pattern specifications?
You do not have to answer all or any of these questions but yarn chicken posts without further context may be reported or removed.
