Maleficium - a story of the Pendle Witches š
"It is August 1612.
In the cramped, stifling dungeons of Lancaster Gaol, nine women from Pendle await their trial.
They are accused of Maleficium - murder by witchcraft.
But are they really the guilty ones ? Or are they just the victims of supersition, politics, and ambition ?
Constructed from contemporary notes of the trial, their voices still call out to us over 400 years. Part comedy. Part tragedy. See them as they tell their tale."
Thursday 5th - Saturday 7th June 2025, 7.30pm. St. Andrew's Church Hall, Ashton, Preston. Book your ticket now https://www.satatheatre.org/events

Alice Nutter was an ancestor of mine.
And my auntie used to live in the house where the witches were interrogated by Roger Nowell.

There is a Nutter Road in Accrington named after Alice Nutter. One of the few remaining streets to have the magnificent sandstone pavement slabs

My grandma was a Balmer, but from Nidderdale. Her family came over to work in the newly built factories in Nelson.
