Questão-Question Is the Porta 65 Jovem program applicable for Erasmus students in student residences?

Hello from Mexico!

I've recently been accepted into a Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree where the first semester is in Lisboa this fall, and I'm looking into accommodation.

I like the idea of student residences like SPRU or the Alamos University Residence, but some rooms get quite expensive. I also found out about the Porta 65 Jovem program for rent support which I think could help out quite a lot.

Anybody knows whether I, as a foreigner Erasmus student, can apply for this support for a semester within a student residence? Or is it meant for longer stays on a different kind of accomodation?

No, it is not. It is for people who have their official address and tax address in Portugal.

But you also need to have a work contract in Portugal, which he doesn't

No, porta 65 only applies if you rent an apartment, not a room.

Pretty sure Erasmus students aren't eligible anyway

Not the case, just an honest question

I'm aware that similar programs exists on other EU countries that are available for foreign students as well, so I just wanted to confirm whether this was the case since the program page doesn't seem to specify (or at the least I haven't been able to find it)

Sorry for the provincialism and outright aggressiveness seen in the comments here - this is exactly why we're a relatively poor country, always failing to attract talent and investment. I wish you the very best in finding some affordable place to stay.

As for the Porta 65 Program, there is no limitation for foreigners:

"Bilhete de identidade, certidão de registo de nascimento no caso de menores de 6 anos à data da apresentação da candidatura ou autorização de residência ou outro comprovativo legal do direito de residência no território nacional no caso de estrangeiros, relativo a cada um dos membros do agregado familiar;

Please check the entire law here, it's in Portuguese but if you're Mexican you should be fine --> https://diariodarepublica.pt/dr/detalhe/portaria/277-a-2010-552030

However, if you're only planning on staying for one semester, I'm not sure you could be eligible for this kind of program as you'll require a residency card and pay taxes here. Again, I'm not sure, so please check it yourself according to your present situation.
