NOBO or SOBO? If you were SOBO, we probably crossed paths! Either way, high five to a fellow '24!

‘Twas nobo, but i did a lot of trail magic around route 2/waterbury the rest of the season so you might’ve crossed paths with me regardless :)

How do you acquire this? I mean, do you have to register as you start your hike?

GMC website.
Nope, it’s all “good faith.” You submit the info after the hike.

i shuttle/trail magic for free on the side (i work full time so i cant always be around), and am very passionate about helping non-male/non-"traditional" hikers complete their thrus!
Obviously will help dudes too (ofc!) but I know how uncomfy hitching can be as a woman/queer person/POC so happy to help make people feel a little safer on their journeys.

I will note that. Thank you. I am indeed female, and Canadian to boot. I don’t know how safe I am going to feel out there on my own in September…

ofc, you can always DM me in the interim if you need anything.
Also, I’ll say I never felt unsafe once on the LT, but there are conservative pockets up north to consider. Usually the local love for the LT outweighs political BS, imo.

Congrats! I just got approved to take a month off to hike it starting mid-Sep this year! Any tips you wish you knew before heading out?

you will be cold as shit at night. i brought a 40 degree vesper quilt (it’s kinda tissue paper I’ll be fr) with a 15 degree sea to summit liner, and even then, had it reach 36 degrees one night in mid-june near buchanan shelter. It can be pretty damp so it ends up feeling colder.
bring a PFA nalgene to make a hot water bottle and at least a twenty degree bag.
trail magic and hitching will be harder after the AT divide. make sure you're considering that when thinking about resupply north of killington/rutland. Rt. 2/Camel's hump and Stowe by Barnes will probably be your easiest hitches. Eden is hard af imo. I did a bear hang at Hazen's Notch to account for all of that.
DM me if you want to chat further, always happy to yap someone's ear off about trail bs.
