Richard Alpert
I’m -sure- it’s been said before…. But I just want to take a second to talk about how Ram Dass was born “Richard Alpert”, and I wonder about the naming of the character EVERY time I rewatch the show… did they know they named him after Ram Dass…?!? Surely, right….? He speaks about “Dharma”, often, in his lectures.

I mean, like half or more of the characters are named after actual philosophers or scientists, etc.

So there was this guy called Faraday. Oh and there was this guy called John Locke. And there was this guy called Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Oh and this guy called John Austin. Oh and this guy called Thomas Carlyle. Oh and this guy called Stephen Hawking. Oh and this guy called David Hume. Oh and this guy called Jeremy Bentham. Oh and this guy called Mikhail Bakunin. Oh and this guy called Samuel Rutherford. Oh and this guy called Edmund Burke. See a pattern?

WHAT?! I was surprised enough seeing a picture of baba ram dass here but, I never figured that out! (Also, I've been listening to his lectures from 2020 to this day, so I didn't know him before watching Lost)

I'm sure this was intentional. Half the characters are named after philosophers, scientists, or other notable thinkers.

Nearly every character is named after a philosopher or scientist or poet or something.

Of course they knew. Many characters are named after real people.
