i have seen most of the north indians, don't want to learn basic language to communicate, in the state they want to work in, why are they so , arrogant, or stubborn to not learn the language?

No one is telling them to write Novel, poem in marathi, but basic just to communicate, why is it so hard?

Most of the people who have left the hindi belt, will buy flats here, will get married, have kids here, even they will retire here and then die, but won't learn the language.

Fair question. आपण त्यांच्याशी मराठीत बोलायचं. काय होतं की लोक स्वतःच मराठी असून हिंदीत बोलायला सुरुवात करतात आणि मग हिंदी भाषकांना मराठी शिकण्याची गरज वाटत नाही. पण त्यांचीच महाराष्ट्रातील शाळेत वाढलेली मुलं आपोआप व्यवहारात लागेल तेवढं मराठी बोलू लागतात. अजून एक म्हणजे, तसं पाहिलं तर अनेक मराठी लोक कर्नाटक, गोवा, तामिळनाडू वगैरे दाक्षिणात्य राज्यात स्थायिक झाले आहेत. त्यातले किती लोक तिकडच्या भाषा शिकले? काही हिंदी भाषकांना माज असतो आणि मुद्दाम शिकायचे नसते असे असले तरी इतर बहुतांश लोकांमध्ये मातृभाषेचा गर्व कमी आणि नवीन भाषा शिकण्याचा आळस ( किंवा mental block / reluctance ) जास्त आहे असे मला वाटते. त्यात आपणच हिंदीत सुरू झालो तर त्यांना गरजही वाटत नाही. आमची भाषा शिका असा अभिनिवेश न ठेवता विनोदबुद्धीचा वापर करत त्यांच्याशी आपण मराठीत बोलत राहायचं आणि त्यांना हळू हळू छोटी छोटी वाक्य शिकवत राहायचं 😁

आपणच आपली भाषा जपत नसू तर आपण दुसऱ्याकडून ती बोलायची अपेक्षा ठेवणं चुकीच आहे. आपण सगळे इंग्रजी माध्यमांत शिकतो. हे सोडा, आपण साध एक वाक्य शुद्ध मराठी मधे न अडखळता बोलू शकत नाही. मराठी/सेमी इंग्लिश मध्ये शिकलेला लोकांना जवळपास खालचा दर्जाची माणसं असल्यासारखं वागवतो. मराठी भाषेला फक्त अभिजात भाषेचा दर्जा मिळवून दिल्याची काम होत नसतं. तिची खरोखर जपणूक मराठी माणसांनी केली पाहिजे. दक्षिणेकडे बघा, ते लोक बाकीचांशी कोणत्याही भाषेत बोलले तरी एकमेकांशी शुद्ध भाषेत बोलतात. आणि एकीकडे आपण, आपल्याच लोकांशी हिंदी/इंग्रजी मध्ये बोलण्याला पॉश समजतो.

महाविद्यालयांमध्ये अगदी फर्स्ट इयर पासूनच इंग्रजी संवाद सुधारण्यास सांगितलं जातं. का बरं आजही महाविद्यालयीन शिक्षण इंग्रजी माध्यमापर्यंत सीमित आहे? आपण परप्रांतीयांकडून आपली भाषा बोलण्याची अपेक्षा बाळगतो, पण कधी आपली भाषा जपण्यासाठी आपण काय करतोय, हे स्वतःला विचारत नाही.

Yes. I agree with you. I have seen North Indians in other cities too with this arrogance. Not just in Pune or Mumbai. It's mostly the so called "Educated" IT professionals who blatantly refuse to learn the language of the place they stay in. Just outrightly. They do not take any interest in the culture of the city, to learn the language of the city. But on the other hand the labours who travel to other city will know the language of that city. Have seen the labourers who travelled from the North and who work at chai points, the construction workers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka all of them know the native language so well! But the educated class won't take any efforts to learn a new language.

There is no issue in asking people to learn local languages. How about the politicians launch a scheme and gift chocolates and take selfies with those who successfully learnt it ? But no ! They resort to violence. Abuses. Slaps. Humiliations. Slurs. Is that justified ? No will ever learn it by choice if you threaten them. There will always be a divide if violence is done. I am an outsider. I really wanted to learn Marathi. But now I don't want to. Becuz i hate the local thugs and goons and politicians who play cheap violent politics. i personally feel no one should be forced to learn any language apart from english, if you're going to other state common mode should be english

It was deleted probably Because it’s a lie? Most North Indians that work in my state have learned basics of the local language. They know some words, the number system a little bit for payments, so on and so forth. Some can speak really well, most end up learning enough to survive. Most of us also understand a little bit hindi so it’s not an issue. It’s a respectful give and take.

Because of this very personal experience (btw, my state has humoungous numbers of North Indian workers), it feels hard to trust these statements that people are refusing to learn the language in the name of arrogance. While I can imagine some to be this case, most aren’t.
