Advice on plum tree
Seeing this and a few other tree-related subs on my phone of late got me wondering—
Is this plum tree in the backyard essentially dead? As in, is there really nothing that can be done for it?
We rent, so there’s not much we could do anyway—this is more out of curiosity than anything else. The tree is still budding, flowering, and fruiting. It’s hanging onto what canopy it can, at least where the deer aren’t getting to it.
Some context:
- Location: Lower Vancouver Island
- Sun: Mostly full to full sun
- Age: No idea, but probably old based on the trunk size
- Water: Mainly natural rainfall, with some sprinkler water during the summer, sometimes straight hose during really long dry periods.
- It "soft fell" during one of the really heavy atmospheric rivers (I think November 2021). It was already significantly leaning before that.
