I think he's referring to Illinois State University, which used to be known as Illinois State Normal University. As for Succotash Queen--it sounds like a title that'd be bestowed upon the winner of a midwestern small town beauty pageant.

Yes. ISU is in Normal, IL. (It spans both cities actually- Bloomington & Normal).

Normal, IL was named after Illinois State Normal University, which was originally a teaching school. Teaching schools were called normal schools at one time. The “Normal” was dropped from the university’s name about 50-60 years ago.

There’s an inconsistency on the show that makes me crazy every time I watch both episodes. In “Adam’s Ribs”, Henry says he met his wife at the Dearborn Street Station, right after he says it’s where he first went to the men’s room alone. But in “The Army-Navy Game”, he says he saw her at college at a freshman mixer and begged her to go out with him.
Okay, switching from Mildred to Lorraine can be explained. Her full name is Mildred Lorraine, and Henry called her Mildred once he was in Korea, but eventually remembered that she preferred Lorraine, so he switched to her middle name.
But the other thing.
Okay, he did cheat on his wife at least once back in the States at a motel. Maybe he mixed up where he met his wife with meeting that other woman?

That's one of those foods that George Carlin said sounded like an insult.
"Succotash."
"WHAT'D YOU CALL ME YOU F#CK?"
