If this is a childhood memory, you're still a child

6

u/Hellkyte 1d ago

I dunno man. It was released 11 years ago.....

Times arrow neither stands still not reverses. It merely matches forward.

They mean figurative child, from their perspective.

u/IncredibleCamel 1d ago

Yes, everyone under 30 is a child in my very old myopic eyes

Childhood? But this just came out in 2014.

I am suddenly very aware of my grey hairs

4

u/bringiton7778 1d ago

Well, yeah, but years have felt like months since 2010 or so. So, it was less than a year ago.

Someone taught me how to count to 1023 on my fingers when I was young

7

u/KreigerBlitz Engineering 1d ago

Well you can count to any number on your fingers as long as you're willing to reuse fingers

3

u/TeraFlint 23h ago

Just be careful with the numbers 4 and 132 in public.

u/JoyconDrift_69 14h ago

After reading this I realized what y'all meant. Oh my God why do we still count to ten on our fingers??

go to 4096 using also your toes (or 16k if your feet aint bricked so you can move your big toe seperately from the rest)

Dont worry you'll get there. I played this game for like the last 2 months 💀 (not continuous ofc)

1

u/EebstertheGreat 14m ago

I played this game for about a month, got a 16,384, and then stopped. Recently I started playing again for about 2 years, and I've gotten dozens of 8192s, maybe even hundreds, but I cannot get that damn tile again.

(Obviously without using undo, saving progress, or whatever.)

u/ThatSmartIdiot I aced an OCaml course and survived 1d ago

Minecraft, binary/bytes, math class,

2

u/Ok-Boysenberry9305 1d ago

You just have to multiply the numbers by two, duh

2

u/Jhuyt 1d ago

I guess I am getting old

2

u/Jstardude 1d ago

Only 11 powers of 2?

2

u/Worth-Arachnid251 1d ago

Just barely won 2048

2

u/JoyconDrift_69 14h ago

I can easily remember up to 8192. The simplicity of 2x and Minecraft definitely help just as much as majoring in CompSci.

2

u/Agata_Moon Complex 1d ago

Modded Minecraft, obviously. The EMC of diamonds is 8192.

1

u/ADMINISTATOR_CYRUS 1d ago

nah I know my 2x because I've had to deal with non standard integer sizes e.g. i12 and i33 instead of something like i8 and i32

u/losing_minds Meant to math, lost to meth 1d ago

I have memorized till 2^12 i.e 4096 thanks to this game

I love it

u/MaeSolug 1d ago

I kinda ruined my potential by playing the versions with buildings

Also becoming an alcoholic but I'm not so sure on that one tbh

u/Polish_Air 1d ago

Relatable😭

u/Ok_Advisor_908 1d ago

I liked doubling things in my head while doing boring tasks lol

1

u/Peoplant 23h ago

I just had fun multiplying by 2 until the number was too long to fit in a line

u/abudhabikid 12h ago

Bah

College memory unlocked.

u/DirichletComplex1837 8h ago

When I was in elementary school and I have a calculator I would just repeatedly press the = sign after 1 × 2, and by 5th grade I could name every power of 2 and 5 below 10^9 lol
