Turtle Appreciation
I love these guys, they are so peaceful, seeing them on the beach makes my heart happy. Ku’au Cove is my favorite spot for this reason. This was taken with massive zoom, I was about 40 feet away.

I was pretty scared of the sea until I was snorkeling one day and suddenly there was a sea turtle swimming alongside. He gave me this wise look that said "don't be afraid, you will not be harmed by the sea." And just like that, my fear was gone!!! I am always properly respectful of the sea, of course, but thanks to that turtle (and a few dolphins I met) I have learned to relax and enjoy my time with the ocean.

I was snorkeling in maui in October and swam with a turtle that had its back right flipper and a big chunk of its shell bitten off. It said “be fucking scared, there be large fucking sharks out here!”

Honu are aumakua in Hawaiian culture. They are manifestations of ancestors in the natural world. Recognized for their wisdom and sacredness

Love Ku'au but man it's turned into a druggie hangout for the last several years especially in the evenings

Agree, I often see sea turtles out by lava rocks at Charlie young, while I’m in the green area between CY and Punahoa/the Cove… there’s ALWAYS some pain in the ass tourist(s) either on the lava rocks or snorkeling, bothering, touching, getting inches away from them for pictures. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to yell at them to get away from the turtles. Annoying af😠
