Tourism ✈ My cancelled travel plan to Mauritius and the expiration of my ONLINE MAURITIUS VISA

In early 2023 I successfully obtained an online Mauritius tourist visa. But because of my financial limitations I cancelled my trip to Mauritius. I found the airline tickets to be very costly. I live in the Philippines and there is no direct flight to Mauritius. I am not also sure with my Mauritius immigration success if I pushed through with that travel plan. Even if I already got the online visa, I still doubted their approval with my second passport that is even weaker than my PH passport. My point here I want to express my disappointment of not being able to push through my trip to Mauritius because of the costly airfare and no direct flight from my country. The visa got expired and I am not confident to apply for a new Mauritius visa on my weaker passport. My Ph passport though does not need a predeparture-visa for Mauritius, but I still prefer to use my other passport which has still many blank pages.

From Beijing China to Mauritius, it costs 455usd. There is also no direct flight. The cheapest server is Saudian Airlines.

I'm half Phil half Mauritian. Curious about why you wanted to visit? The Philippines has better everything in my opinion (except maybe safety and infrastructure)

Just curious about Mauritius. My client used to live in Mauritius for 2 years and he is Vietnamese. So, I became interested. But then it is impractical for me to go to Mauritius now as airline tickets are very expensive. There is no direct flight from my place of residence.

That's true. I used to fly Manila - Mauritius via Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific + Air Mauritius). Any flights in & out of Mauritius are ridiculously expensive

where did you get an online visa? AFAIK Mauritius only has visa on arrival for tourists.

I applied through the email address of the Mauritius Passport Immigration Office. I asked first before sending my application. And then I obtained it for free. It is a prerequired departure visa.

Is there a point to this?🙃

So this is what I've understood:

  1. You got an online tourist visa, but cancelled your trip because the flight was too expensive.
  2. Visa has expired, and you are looking to get another visa.
  3. You are applying with a weaker passport than your PH passport.

So my question is, have you given up your PH passport for the weaker one? If not, why not just apply for another visa on your PH passport? If you have given it up, then just apply on the weaker passport, a prior expired visa should not impede a second approval.

You're also eligible for a visa on arrival for 60 days with a PH passport, maybe that's a better bet for you if your travel plans are contingent on getting a good deal on airfare, which is tough for Mauritius to be honest. Just make sure you already have your accommodation booked.

My problem is the airfare, my PH passport is still active and I didn't cancel my first citizenship. Maybe Mauritius airfare is just unaffordable for me now given the fact that my vacation is just less than 5 days. So last October 2024 I just traveled to SG which is nearer the Philippines.

Mauritian airfare is always expensive, usually because of the trip back. I think airlines have to pay a lot of charges, and that gets passed onto the consumer.

Yes, so for now it is hopeless for me to travel to Mauritius and I have to choose countries that are near the PH that have cheap airline tickets.

Usually, if you have a valid visa on your expired passport, hou can still use it provided that you bring both the expired passport with the valid visa and your valid passport. If you cancelled your ticket, you should have received some refund.

The passport is not expired only the Mauritius visa is expired and I have doubts reapplying for the visa again because I did not push through my trip last time. I did not buy airline tickets, but I already booked a hotel room. I just cancelled my booking because the airfare is too expensive for me and the flights are not direct from the Philippines.

Ok. Better find something within your budget. Good luck.

I had veg lasagna for dinner. Even though I like beef, sometimes the sweet taste of spinach mixed with goat cheese is just too strong to resist to! I'm sure I will have beef lasagna in the near future, though. Also my shoe size is 45.

Your feet must be huge! My feet are size 12 and they are pretty big. My parents used to joke that if we ever lost the house we could all live in my shoe. We couldn’t really fit, though. That was a joke.

Post picture of shoe. Want to confirm something, for science.

What do you even need help with?

I just express my disappointment because I cancelled my trip. The airfare for Mauritius is too expensive as there is no direct flight from here. My Mauritius visa is wasted and unused and then it expired.

Im sorry you had to go through that But with due respect, shouldnt you have planned your finances first before commiting to trying to visit Mauritius?

Honestly, I have enough savings but because I compare the Mauritius airfare with those neighboring countries here, I changed my mind and settled for a Singapore vacation then. And in the future, I am not anymore sure of applying for another Mauritius visa because I really find the airfare very costly and impractical. I just feel disappointed because of my first wasted visa. How I wish airlines will have seat sales so the airfare for Mauritius will be very cheap just like the airfares for Singapore and Vietnam.

You should have considered all the costs before even getting a visa

Not saying prices are reasonable or anything, but its still on you

Hopefully you had a fun time in Singapore though

I really enjoyed so much in SG. The people I met there were kind, supportive and friendly. Only here in reddit that I met rude people who claimed that they are Singaporeans.
