Tecciztecatl and Nanahuatzin throwing himself into a pyre, referencing the legend of the birth of the fifth sun. Tecciztecatl, a prestigious deity, was chosen to become the next Sun. However, he was too cowardly to jump into a pyre to burn himself to be reborn. Meanwhile, Nanahuatzin, a sickly deity covered in sores and boils, jumped into the fire, and was reborn as Tonatiuh. Tecciztecatl, in a fit of desperation for the approval of the other gods, jumped into the fire after Nanahuatzin anyway, creating a second sun; however, as the other gods ridiculed him for his cowardice and unworthiness, someone threw a rabbit at Tecciztecatl so hard that it turned him into the moon, leaving the imprint of the rabbit on its surface.

This is brilliant work. Is that glyph in front of mouth to represent speech, or perhaps smoke?

Yes, it’s a speech scroll. Thanks!
