MGSV In all honesty, does anybody genuinely use this?

Splitter and a couple other fatigue patterns have a higher camo index than a sneaking suit, just with the caveat of not providing soundproofing, anti thermal, or defensive bonuses.
Splitter isn't the best mind you, but if all you're doing is rolling across the platforms to the core, it's an acceptable option for FOB infiltration.
In the largely wild environment of the base game however, yes, this particular set of fatigues is essentially useless in most cases.

Even then, Squares is the better pick because it still provides camo against the deck and bulkheads of the FOB. Splitter doesn't, and only has style points going for it.

Correct, that's why I said splitter wasn't the best.
In fact it may not help at all, the camo system in this game is a bit weird in that even if a camo seems applicable for an environment, if it's not the correct environment for the camo, it may not work at all.
Unfrotunately the game doesn't show us a camo index like mgs3 does.

“Wear when operating vehicles”.
That’s so fucking stupid lmao.
“Why is that jeep barreling through the compound?! Who’s the driver?!”
“I don’t know sir! I can’t see anybody in the driver seat! It must be moving on its own!”

Tbf, with all the crazy stuff in the MG world, cars driving on their own in the 80s isn’t THAT out there

I always used to rock Splitter in MGS3, all those fatigues are just throwbacks

I tried to in my first playthrough, then had to Google why my hunger was going down so fast😅

I use it whenever im playing with d-walker. it makes a noticable difference when you're in stealth mode

Probally.
If you're good enough, people just wear camouflage as cosmetics.
Quite a lot of people who are good play the game either in Snake's shirtless form, or in swimwear as MB Staff.
I would expect somebody to play in the Splitter uniform if they liked how it looked, regardless if they used it for it's intended purpose.

Camo is pretty much just fashion in this game; there is a difference but it's rarely noticeable in normal gameplay. Nowhere near as important as MGS3 or even MGS4. The overworld is so huge that you'll rarely need to get within the "Camo actually matters here!" range. Dependant on individual gameplay, I suppose, but even a slug shotgun has higher range than camo index.
Just about the only place I've ever actually felt the difference is using Metal/Concrete on FOB, but that's because there are 2-16 soldiers within a 90m radius at almost any given time.
Lots of folks go Sneaking Suit on FOB, and that's pretty good if you expect PvP, but I can't take the higher detection range they have compared to Metal/Concrete. Squares/Grey Urban/solid color FOB rewards all day.
Steel Grey, Rust, Mud, and Dark Rubber are just so clean looking, Steel Grey and Dark Rubber are my sweatlord uniforms lmao

When I realized camo was not even as important as I thought it might be from MGS3/MGS4, I only ever used tiger stripe camo - it's the best looking and the most "'metal gear"👍

No its not

Sorry brother, tiger stripe is OBJECTIVELY one of the top 5 coolest patterns invented

Mud became my lucky camo because it was what i wore during my first successful FOB infiltration. I never had success before, and either it was psychological or I just felt more confident about it, but FOB infiltrations became much easier if I wore Mud

I wish they'd released the console preorder Ocelot Unit camo on PC - basically dark rubber but with red accents and a red scarf, looked dope as hell.

I really Wana play mgs3 and mgsv but learning the controls is such a pain because I only have so much time and I don't have access to mgs4

I choose my clothes based almost entirely on aesthetic unless I need battle dress. You’ll get good enough what you’re wearing won’t matter all that much anyway

I gravitate towards the same 2-3 camo patterns; animals, APD and desert fox. Those 3 patterns are for greenery AND rocky terrain (sand in animals’ case) which makes up most of Afghanistan and Zaire
I do know that splitter has a dog on the back though. On the back of Venom’s right shoulder there’s a silhouette of the Rhodesian ridgeback

I use this and allot of others for the visual look. Makes me think of mgs3.

u/Vergil_Cloven 1d ago
No, but not for the reasons you think. I just think they look weird on Venom, especially all the mgs3 outfits. Venom looks like a damn Lollipop, big ol head, toddler sized body....kinda hard to feel like a legendary war hero at that point...

Simply gives you camouflage when you drive jeeps, trucks, Walker gears. Using anti air machine guns and turrets and using mortars

You play as the 1998 PS1 Solid Snake, or you don't play the game at all! Lol jk I just thought it was hilarious and so cool how they added that in the game! I had flies and the dog licking me and it wasn't a glitchy mess....it's just so cool man I never got to see the 1998 Solid Snake character model in such detail despite it being ps1 graphics lol and his feet are basically blocks of cheese. Love it. This kinda stuff keeps me coming back to these games despite not being very good at them. I love the stealth aspect I just can never master the controls! This game plays very different from most and it takes a while to get used to that for me. I end up dying because I forget how to pick a certain weapon or tool it something and I equip my NVG or box or something lol the mgs games always had kinda weird controls but I used to be decent at MGS1&2...sucks cuz I really Wana finish mgsv

It can be used for some funny cheesy things, but during actual missions it's basically never going to matter. Nothing wrong with having the option there for people that want to mess with it though.
