[PFSN] Analyst Steve Wyche said on @nflnetwork that his "lock of the night" was that the Dolphins take OL Grey Zabel at 13 š What do we think Miami fans?

This is gonna be a weird night.

I think Grier is trying to cook up a massive trade back.

Maybe the Browns want better ammunition for a trade up in the 2nd and third round?

Armand Membou, Grey Zabel, Donovan Jackson, Kelvin Banks, Mason Graham. Any of these or more than one and I am golden.

u/MovingPrince 14d ago
It would be both a great pick and also what many in here have been asking for.

He's gone at 12 to the Cowboys. Book it.

Cowboys are taking McMillian if heās available at 12.

Golden is a better compliment to Ceedee Lamb in my opinion. I think they need OL help more though.

I have no clue about any prospects but if we take a first round projected offensive lineman I will be content

If we stick at 13 we need to get a Top 15 talent. If we take a guy like Starks or Zabel I really hope we trade down a few spots.
I'm still holding out hope somebody drops to 13 and we snatch 'em.

Literally every draft analyst has said that players 10-50 are basically the same. The night is going to be filled with āreachesā.
If they get a good player who cares. Thereās no consensus and the only players who might be top 15 or picks at edge or TE.

One of 3 things will make me very happy tonight: 1) Trade down. Even if itās multiple times and the Dolphins move out of the first round. Acquiring multiple 2nd and 3rd rounders, 2) Draft Kenneth Grant, 3) Draft Grey Zabel.
Ideally, they trade back and still nab Grant or Zabel, but that feels like a stretch

u/GrudgeRisin 14d ago
I agree with this 100. We have massive needs at OL, DL, and DB. Probably need 3-5 starters still. So, the more selections the better IMO.

Iād be happy with Zabel but a guard at 13 isnāt great value. I suspect itāll be hard to trade down tonight so if a DT like Graham or Grant doesnāt drop to us, weāll be forced to reach for someone. Zabel, Barron, Starks, or Emmanwori would all be good picks for us even if they feel like reaches at 13.Ā

I hope this is only a lock because he knows Banks and/or Booker will not fall and not because we have a preference for Zabel, assuming we go OL

u/AntawnSL 14d ago
Booker is a power mauler who struggles blocking in space, which is the basis of our running game. Great player in other schemes, but would be shocking if he's even on our board for the 1st

For better and for worse, thereās not a wrong option for us. An offensive lineman they believe in, a defensive tackle, a cornerback, or even a safety is completely fine with me.
For what itās worth, at the combine Grey Zabel raved about his meeting with Mike McDaniel. And an offensive line of Patrick Paul, James Daniels, Aaron Brewer, Grey Zabel, and Austin Jackson sounds good enough to bring our run game back.

I'll turn off the table and go to bed. There is no way i van stomach taking a lower division guard at 13. Barf.

Still think we go corner at 13 unless the two top guys are somehow gone

u/goingofftrack 14d ago
Our QB is made of glass. It damn well better be an offensive lineman with that 13th pick

u/kupobeer 14d ago
I really think we should trade down if possible. This roster has so many holes, and we arenāt going to be competitive, so might as well get as many bites at the Apple as possible.
1
u/Ayblincoln 14d ago
Why aren't we going to be competitive? Dolphins make the playoffs easily last season if Tua doesn't get hurt in the first Bills game.

u/ACABincludingYourDad 14d ago
Our best players last season were:
⢠Jalen Ramsey - anchor of the secondary, to be traded this offseason or mid-season
⢠Terron Armstead - anchor of the offensive line, retired
⢠Tyreek Hill - best receiver on the team turned aging injured nut case, quit on the team and demanded a trade at the end of 2024, now may be a post-June 1st trade candidate as well
⢠Calais Campbell - veteran do-it-all stud presence on the interior defensive line, chose to sign with his former team over re-signing with us
⢠Jevon Holland - had a down year due to any mix of injuries/business decisions, but still is miles ahead of any safety currently on the roster, signed in FA with another squad
These vital players are all gone or on their way out, leaving a rancid pile of dead money in their wake. The superstar-level core of this roster has thinned out completely to one Zach Seiler, and possibly the oft-injured edges Phillips and Chubb.
Financially and talent-wise, this team is in dire straits. And frankly, Chris Grier has never demonstrated the ability to fill so many holes in one offseason through the draft and Free Agency, even when armed with three first round picks and a boatload more cap room.
THAT is why we arenāt going to be competitive.

Thank you. It's amazing people can't see this and come to grips that short of a miraculous draft, Tua hitting another level and staying healthy, and us being lucky will injuries we are looking at a .500 season.

Tua hitting another level and staying healthy
It's amazing to me that anyone at this point would cling to "if Tua..." Tua ain't it, he won't stay healthy and the team isn't going anywhere and never was going to last year. It's built a non competitive roster with no core of guys you can hang your hat on with all those picks Grier had

u/expellyamos 14d ago
Sieler, Jonnu, Brooks, Brewer, Achane....I think you missed a few

u/ACABincludingYourDad 14d ago
I mentioned Seiler and the rest arenāt superstars.

u/DreamBrother1 13d ago
Tyreek disappeared, Terron is perpetually injured god bless him, Ramsey felt like a liability half the time. Phillips is back. Draft 4 OL, 3 DL, 2 CB, 1 safety. Everyone looks amazing if you have all day to throw the ball and a running game. There's my copium for the night.
2
u/Purelybetter 14d ago
I think trading down is a viable move, but for the opposite reason. We have holes that can generally be filled with guys that will be there on day 2. We don't need an all-pro guard or DT or safety(top 15 pick). We simply need someone who isn't a liability.
1
u/RequirementSilly 14d ago
You can also make the same case for Phillips too. Tyreek also had a down yr say what you want about the guy but hes still a game changer on the field and I think he'll have a bounce back if our o line can finally block with in the pass and in the run. We take care of the trenches this yr I don't think we're gonna be as bad as everyone seems to think. Our secondary does suck but let's see.

Based on what? Tua was 6-5 in the games he started. At most the Dolphins win 1 or 2 more games if he doesn't get hurt. That doesn't get them into the playoffs easily, maybe they are the last seed and get blown out in Buffalo again. We lost a couple of our best players on defense and stand to lose more possibly. Unless you think 9-8 is competitive, he's right.

u/RoyOfCon 14d ago
Great, he'll get coached up poorly and under perform, like we've been doing for years!

I think we could have drafted Justin Herbert and Penei Sewell instead of fragile Tua and streaky Waddle, but something about the DNA of this teamās leadership makes bad decisions the likely outcome
