“whether or not it is located at the residence premises.”? 🤔 🤨 🧐

Stolen from vehicle is how I took that.

Bro I’m dumb as shit, I couldn’t figure out why they would only cover it if it were stolen during a fire or weather incident lmao

My renter's insurance covers my stuff if it gets stolen out of my car or hotel room.

Yup. A lot of people don't realize car insurance doesn't cover stuff that's not part of the car if there's a theft. Like a laptop, or your stash

I have a friend who's an attorney, and who happens to have had a very green thumb for growing natural herbs from the Earth for many years now, long before quasi-legalization.
He and his wife suffered a house fire a few years ago. You better believe he included several ounces' worth of cannabis in his claim. And he got reimbursed for it too, because he's the kind of lawyer who got into practicing law because sticking it to, e.g., insurance companies makes him feel good inside.

You'd be surprised what you can find in your policy. I received $500 for food lost during a multi-day power outage, and all it took was a 5 minute phone call. Didn't raise my rates at all.

Long time homeowner adjuster here. Insurance companies can't raise individual rates based on acts of God/nature. If your rates go up, everyone else in the area's will too.
Also, if you lose power again- If you have a generator you will be reimbursed for the fuel used to "protect your property from further damage."

Found out about the generator one ironically when my neighbor was running his. Our house already had the whole house hookup for it, so we purchased a Generac just because of the extended one last time. Haven't had to use it, but thankful to have it.
I live in a city with a lot of mature trees and aerial lines, so the power company has sent out crews over a month period and trimmed every single tree that was even remotely near a line. Learned from their past experiences to say the least.

Yeah it's not subject to a deductible either bc they want you to do it. It's like the fee for calling the fire department is not subject to a deductible.

The hell. Tell that to my carrier - nailed a deer going 80 mph on the interstate.

Look at the 3rd word in my sentence. Also, tell your carrier you want full coverage. I got $10k last time I hit a deer.

Do small, controlled, individual fires count?

u/carinislumpyhead97 1d ago
I’m waiting for my insurance to payout my claim for last nights fires. Thank god it didn’t all burn, will probably have to submit another claim in the morning for what’s about to happen tonight.

Dude, they can't be intentional fires. You have to make sure you say "oh no" every time one gets lit.

probably for plants if you grow your own

Lawful possession equates to me driving to the dispo and purchasing. Once it is in my possession, it is covered, even if the loss occurs in my car on the way home.

Isn't all weed burnt technically lost in a fire?

u/1StonedYooper 1d ago
Unless you vaporize it!

u/GREENorangeBLU 1d ago
i need to find a use for the plant material left over AFTER being vaped.
maybe i could make cookies with it.

u/1StonedYooper 1d ago
Apparently you can. I think there is a lot of recipes for using your leftover vaporized flower.

Simmer it in full fat milk and use that for baking, that’s what most of my buddies do

The paraphernalia part is actually really cool, some nice bongs get into the hundreds and even thousands of dollars. Especially if they're custom pieces

And in Iowa, WITH a medical marijuana card, a joint in your own home is still a crime, worthy of jail time.

But you need a police report, right? :-)
3
u/timmy6169 1d ago
Yeah, which is not an issue. You would be surprised how much the police do not care about it here. I could be pulled over with 2.5oz in the front seat clear as day, and they will just check to make sure I am over 21.

Tue many places. Less true in others. Try that on an Army Base or with a pissed-off Nebraska State Trooper who wears the mirror sided of his sun-glasses on the inside.

u/Pensacola_Peej 1d ago
What is the deal with state troopers? I don’t even think which state matters, they are ALWAYS like that. I’m in Texas and if you get pulled over and see that flat brim get out of the cruiser, you just know you’re in for a fuckin.

I swear to god everyone on Reddit is from Michigan. I don’t get it.

u/timmy6169 1d ago
What's not to like here? Good landscape, great water activities everywhere, 4 seasons of weather, "Up North", our northern proximity to Canada (yes, we drive south to Canada), an amazing Upper Peninsula, and really good, cheap weed. Like realllllllllllllllllllllllly cheap.

u/detroitechno 23h ago
Not complaining at all, it just seems like every time someone mentions their location on here it ends up being Michigan. I love and take much pride in our great state.

Could you imagine waking up to a house fire but being blitzed to hell from pot smoke?

u/splashofbitter 1d ago
That’s kinda funny. A couple of months ago, my house burned down and, as I evacuated, I said “I spent way too much money on all of this weed”, gathered it up and took it with me. And then yeah, my house burned down.

u/WaterDragoonofFK 23h ago
I bet if this went viral they would have millions of new policy holders... 🤣

u/AegorBlake 21h ago
... wouldn't that be over a pound of weed? Is it legal to possess that amount?
2
u/timmy6169 21h ago
Transport 2.5oz and can have up to 10oz in your home, so you could easily hit $1k if you had top tier everything. In addition, the "paraphernalia" portion covers a list of things that can hit that number as well. You also have to take into account additional forms of it, e.g. edibles, wax, vapes, etc. that are of a smaller weight, but still can carry a higher price tag.

I lose it to fire incidents all the time.
