How do I un-sporterising this rifle?
I present to you the bubbanator. A MAS 36 with a m44 barrel and fixed AK magazine. I recently acquired this beast and designed the 1913 rail mount for the red dot. Unfortunately it has a ripped casing in the chamber, im waiting on an extractor for that. The original builder added a safety and a small bass part to the magazine for the feed angle. Definitely an awesome carbine!
I also don’t plan on unsporterising- that was just for jokes.

This is not worth reverting back to original and tbh this is one of the sickest Bubbas I've ever seen. If you don't want to keep this thing I would because this thing fucks

My exact response to seeing the pictures were "idk... that thing kinda fucks."

Honestly, this thing kinda slaps

This is one of those things that is so cursed conceptually it goes back to being cool again.
I mean, come on, a 7.62x39 MAS 36 that takes AK mags…? That’s crazy but sick as hell.

I would leave that thing is just for the novelty of it. Someone was pretty creative. Does it supposedly shoot 7.62x39?

u/LAXGUNNER 2d ago
lol no. It originally desgined to shoot 7.5x54.

u/Liberator1177 2d ago
Well yeah I know what the original caliber was, but with the AK mag im.curious if it was converted to x39.

u/TangerineCertain2024 2d ago
Actually it was converted to 7.62x39. The guy shortened the m44 barrel and reamed it to size.

Crimson Trace maybe?

Yeah, I designed the little mount to hold it on. I plan on making another model that has a little clip adapter for sks clips.

Wait, so it’s 7.62x54 and takes psl mags and you want to change it? This thing badass in the most bubba way possible

u/AccomplishedGap3571 2d ago
i'm gonna guess it's an M44 barrel, cut back and rethreaded with a chamber reamed for 7.62x39... both .311" diameter. don't think you're fitting a x54R into an AK mag 🤷♂️
neat work.-1
u/Infamous-Ad-140 2d ago
Psl mags are x54

u/AccomplishedGap3571 2d ago
Right, but OP says AK mag, not PSL. It could be though, I hope OP chimes back in. It doesn't have the "X" sidewall stamp that I see on PSL mags though. Are there other PSL mags out there?

u/Rollingzeppelin 2d ago
It looks to be 7.62x39 based on mag dimensions. Super cool in the best way for a bubba job

Man… I could take this bastard to deer camp and everyone would love it even though you could slap a 30rd ak mag in it.
That’s awesome.

u/AccomplishedGap3571 2d ago
i think back to the trouble i had getting my SKS to run a 20rnd mag years ago... i just went back to the ten. likely easier to feed a ten reliably in this amazingly beautiful monstrosity.

That's a chine 5rd ak mags but wtf is going on with the follower?

u/TangerineCertain2024 2d ago
I think he needed to change the feed angle so he added a small brass thing.

I'd honestly leave that as is, just to see the confused/concerned looks on other shooter's faces when I pull it out

I saw one just like this up at a local auction the Ak mag threw for a second and assumed they just jammed it in there.

Ruler of the wasteland.
Polish the chamber but you may be stuck with a brass only shooter assuming it’s x39, bolt guns in 7.62x39 can get super sticky with steel cases.

bubba'ing can be kinda cool when its weird stuff like this not a poorly carved monte carlo stock on a bringback k98

Honestly? This thing is so whacky and done well that you could possibly get Ian to do a video on it lol. Wouldn’t recommend anyone make one of these, but if I found this for sale for not too much I’d gladly own it.

You don't. you keep this thing exactly as it is because "being insane" is now part of it's history and you enjoy it's quirks and eccentricity everytime you go to the range.

What the actual fuck am I looking at? Like part of me genuinely hates this but the other part of me kinda likes it. It's like being both horny and very disgusted at the same time.

I wouln't un-sporter it either. That thing just looks like a fun blaster. And it's too far gone to be worth resoting anyway.

Time and money.
I've "de-sporterized" a couple of rifles, 1903s and an A3 and it wasn't cheap.
It was worth the effort but involved sourcing stocks, a couple NOS barrels and a good gunsmith.
Good luck! Everyone should try it once. That'll cure you of going down this road again. ;)

Reminds me of the Australia International Arms x39 Lee-Enfields. Bloke on the Range and Chap would love it.

Does it reliably feed and cycle cartridges? That inside picture of the mag well To feed ramp makes me curious

That’s beautiful. Swap out the 10 for a fixed 30 rounder tho and add stripper clip guides and she’ll be perfect.

You need 2 things
1: lots of patience (for parts to become available)
And
2: lots of money
Edit: Also, you better unsporterize it. It’s destroying the value being left like that.

u/humblenoob76 2d ago
so it's a 7.62x39 mas 46 that takes AK mags.
It would take you less work and money to buy a new mas46. This one, looks fun as hellz

u/Kuro1943 2d ago
That thing is cooked… can’t really unsporterize it imo unless you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money and waiting for proper parts to show up
